      The Stone Roses to RE-FORM!!
      Oct 14, 2011 11:36:52 pm
Incredible news for fans of the iconic The Stone Roses. The Stone Roses are apparently ready to reform following the announcement of a "very special press conference" at Soho hotel on Tuesday!

      Bloody hell!!!!

I never thought this would happen and not sure how I feel about it to be honest.

On one hand I never got to see the band play live and now have that chance but on the other could this ruin the memories we have of them?

They could apparently be amazing live or just very average as Noel Gallagher experienced once. He said he saw them once and they were so disappointing. He then saw U2's ZOO TV tour and he said 'that is the way you do it'!

I think they'll be immense actually.

Exactly why I have mixed feelings Ken.

As much as I would have loved to have seen the Roses live. That was then and I don't think it could ever be the same.

I always thought that certain Iconic moments in music should be just that, a "moment".  They are considered iconic because of the time and place and you cant recreate that.

I was never a big fan of them or the scene as a whole but stupidly that was probably due to the rivalry between the US rock / grunge and UK Indie scenes at the time. They did do some good stuff, like this haunting slow-burner :

The Stone Roses - I Wanna be Adored (audio only)

I agree with the sentiments expressed on here though, I'm getting a bit tired of my memories being raped by re-forms. Special memories of gigs by bands like Faith No More, Rage Against The Machine and Soundgarden made that little less special knowing that they're whoring themselves around in front of teenagers now. The only ones I can forgive are Alice In Chains because they've reinvented themselves following Lane Staley's death and they're producting plenty of new material.

I don't think The Stone Roses re-forming is a good thing for the fans. Music never dies, you don't need to re-form the band.

Rep, as one of those teenagers (or at least I was when I saw Rage) I'd like to stand up for their choice to continue to 'whore themselves' to us for our enjoyment. :P Seeing RATM was one of the live music experiences I've had and I'm very happy I got the chance to see them before they eventually retire.

I understand you don't want to have your own memories tarnished by sub par performances put on for ignorant teenagers just for the $$$, but you can't exclude an entire generation from seeing some favourite old bands at a gig because all you oldies like them so much too ;)

I totally see where you're coming from! Strangely I've been all for a Stone Roses re-forming but another Manchester band who I utterly adore, The Smiths, I don't know if I could see that going that well - and I wasn't even born when The Smiths were around. The Stone Roses and The Smiths though never had a reputation for being immense live bands.

Not saying they were not immense live but they never created that aura about them live the likes of U2, Coldplay or Oasis (at times) did. With those bands you didn't really have to be that into them on record because their live reputations are so massive that almost anyone goes and sees them.

Never got to see them the first time around although I've seen Ian Brown solo 5 or 6 times.

He, like they apparently were can be very hit and miss and I do worry that it could taint what were / are one of my favourite bands. Ian Brown only started doing Roses songs at his gigs a couple of years back and to here Adored and She Bangs live was fantastic.

I love the Stone Roses but don't really know what to make of it. I don't think it can do any harm to their reputation, at least not for me. If they decide to come to Brazil, I'd certainly be there to watch them!

Mixture of delight and trepidation. Don't think that they recreate their 'moment' but anything is better than some of the sh*te that is sticking around at the moment. If they do not fall out, i would imagine an album in the offing. Brownie cant sing for sh*te but would be great to see anyway.

One of my favourite bands ever. One of the reasons I first picked up a guitar. I couldn't care less if Ian Brown can't sing. Neither could Joe Strummer, and he is my musical idol. Don't care what it might do to their legacy. I want to see one of my favourite ever bands live. I'm going both days.

A pair went for £1200 on ebay this morning!!!

Think they should ask you 3 questions about the band or something to try and stop touts buying them just for a mass profit.

Jeez. Tickets are so hard to get at the moment. Coldplay tickets went within one minute a couple of weeks back. These gone in a matter of moments as well. I'm not even confident of my chances with Noel Gallagher when he goes on sale on Wednesday. The main problem is ticket touting. You get these disgraceful chancers who think they can sell at prices many times over their face value.

Go on viagogo and search The Stone Roses and you've got about 8 pages of countless numbers of tickets being sold at disgusting prices. The highest price someone is asking for a Stone Roses ticket at Heaton Park for their Friday 29 June date? £1,135. Unbelievable.

I still remember seeing them here :

      http://www.readingfestival.com/2011/history/1996

They were a bit of a come-down after Sonic Youth but I don't know whether that was because it was one of their poorer sets or just because I wasn't into them in general.

Didn't get tickets for this but actually worked out better in the end as they are playing T Vital in Belfast in August and tickets have been bought.

Despite still having a slight doubt if one of my favourite bands will live up to my expectations, I've never seen them live, I could not pass up this so close to home.

      I will indeed mate.

I seen Ian Brown a while back in Belfast and despite his voice being poor it was a great gig and even my brother in law, who isn't a massive fan, had a great night.

Played their first gig in 16 years in Warrington last night - it was a small setlist for free entry and apparently it went really well.

I don't see a problem with the reunion - they ended on such a sour note, what with the lukewarm Second Coming and the disastrous tour that followed, plus it's great to see Reni and John Squire (a great drummer and a great guitarist) back out of exile for so long. This would be a great way to tie up loose ends. They're pretty serious about this and all, it's not just a reunion tour then they split up again, they've signed a two album record deal - let's just hope they are good.
