Credit to Italy, apparantly they got 49% posession against Spain, more than any team I've seen for a long long time.

      It was a funny game.

At one point the stat board showed both sides with 50% possession, 11 shots apiece and 3 corners each.

      But Spain were 2-0 up.

Got to disagree, love the way they control the game and the off the ball movement was divine to watch.

Did anyone see the way Jordi Alba ran forward after he played the ball to Xavi?

He's a left back and he was the furthest player on the pitch and got rewarded for his efforts with a goal.

      Yeah.
I'll be surprised if Enrique ever gets anything but a friendly for Spain.

Big well done Spain, just to think an idiot like me who accused Del Bosque of being too cautious, well that humble pie tasted really good. I really felt for Italy, they didn't deserve to end like that.

And Andres Iniesta is simply a joy to watch.

He makes it look so effortless. He's a bit like Messi but just minus the goals and assist ;D

Congrats to Spain, fully deserved to win, that first half was just sublime, a lesson on pass and move 'the Liverpool groove' football, we may have invented it people but these guys have mastered it tbh, an absolute joy to watch, tika taka or whatever the modern day name is for it, was engineered by Shanks all those years ago, perfected by Sir Bob and carried on thru the years by uncle Joe, Roy Evans and of course King Kenny,

sadly we will never know if the King would have brought back the success this simplest of philosophies gave us in the past, however,in Brendan i feel his brand of football is not to far away from the same ethics, ''if you have the ball, they cant harm you''

simple effective and very very successful as we proved in the past and Spain, Barcelona are proving today, well done to Spain that is three major comps on the bounce, a piece of history in itself.
they talked about Cassias being like a sweeper................. ..Tommy Lawrence was the first goalkeeper to patrol on the edge of his box as he was a good footballer in 5 a side and could effectively sweep up ,that was nearly 50 years ago.
If we go to Brazil with England is there any point as that Spanish side in full flow would destroy England.Imagine Roy's 4-4-2 chasing shadows for 90 mins.
NOt playing a striker isnt bonkers either...by the time Torres came on Italy's midfield and defense were shellshocked andknackered it was easy pickings for a fresh striker.

It was worth watching all of the other matches just to see that goal.It goes to show what players can achieve with the right attitude.

Yup. Exactly. He never gave up and he got rewarded!

And after the game I saw a little kid (one of the player's) with ALBA 17 on the back and I was like "WTF?! Jordi Alba has a kid? He's only 23!!"

      Then I realised it's Arbeloa's daughter! ;D

      Boring? AHAHAHAHA.

Oh how dare they have the absolute audacity to win a 3rd consecutive major tournament (many consider it to be record-breaking, incidentally) slightly more conservatively than the absolute football porn they served up to win the 2010 WC.

      Congratulations Spain, commiserations to Italy.

Maybe Group C was the group of death all along?

That really sums it up for me, couldn't be more spot on.  We are potentially looking at the best International team of all time, and we complain about them being "boring" really with the only excuse being that they keep winning everything.  Well what do yo expect? Of course they're going to win everything if they can, and they do so congrats to them.  The played a surprisingly good Italian team and were clearly the stronger side, even before Motta went off.

In 20 years people will look back and talk about how amazing Spain was.  People would get slapped for saying certain Brazilian, German and Dutch teams were boring.

was a much better tournament tahn the World Cup in my opinion. There was Balotelli, France, England, Portugal and Agger which made this tournament very very pleasant to watch, the previous world cup was boring but this euro was full of passion although we haven't seen marvelous tricks etc

24 teams in 2016 will bring the standards way down. The likes of Ireland, Scotland, Norway will prob qualify and just dont play the football that will compete at the top or keep neutrals arsed watching them.

      England played axactly like England
      Holland chocked...again
      Germany underachieved
      The rest...

England was not pleasant to watch in fact but it was better than last World Cup, Gerrard and Johnson had a good tournament, even Carroll scored a beautiful goal!
Ronaldo ran the show like usual, Spain was his own self(remember the last world cup: 8goals to win 7games), Holland was terrible and it was predictable and Italy was the surprise of the tournament

Jonathan Wilson is one of the best football writers in the world, his knowledge is immense and he watches all kinds of competitions - writes about Eastern European football, talks about South American footie on twitter, etc. His book about the history of tactics is a must read to everyone IMO
