Gilbert's off the front on his own but he's got a long way to go and has already done a lot of attacking.  I can see the GB train pulling him back and then it's down to Cav and the other sprinters.

      (I hope!)

Gilbert's been caught by the big front group who are still being chased by the peloton.  There's a number of teams with at least two riders in the front group.  The peloton needs to get a move on now.

The front group contains Cancellara and has about a 1 minute lead with 34k to go!

      Getting nervous now!

Chris Froome has dropped out.  Front group looking at each other according to Boardman.  Gap over a minute.

Is it possible they can bring this gap down in just over 20km?

      It's coming down very slowly.

They're saying it was Cancellara that crashed, it was!  Unlucky Fabian.  He looks hurt.

10k to go, no time splits yet.  That crash must have slowed the front group down a fair bit.

All over then, not closed the gap at all despite the mess up and crash at the front.

Gap is still good for us to close the breakaway group. Every 10km per one minute gap is within rule of thumb.

Two riders escape off the lead group, Vinoukourov and a Colombian rider.

      Rigoberto Uran.

Peloton's still 54 seconds down with only 6.6k to go.

4.5k and close to a minute gap. Gold will be someone from the breakaway group.

2 k to go and Vino and Uran still have a decent gap.
