The 'What Have You Been Doing?' Thread
      Mar 19, 2012 10:12:07 pm
I've always wondered what the 'What Are You Doing?' thread really means as every time you post there you are actually typing a post when you post in there. Maybe it's just me being a nobhead, but i was thinking it might be a good idea to have this thread for people that have actually done something instead of doing something. Especially as i have been away from the forum for quite some time due to a new house move and my lovely little project i took on that lasted four months. If the mods feel it is not appropriate then please feel free to merge this in the other thread.

As i said, i haven't been on here for ages, been very busy. Recently moved house and while we were looking something caught my eye, a derelict shed in a back garden, it had been used by an old miner who used to build motorbikes there. The previous owner had used it as a storage shed, the minute i saw it i was filled with joy!. Some of you might remember the pictures of my old decks room in my old house which gave way to my second son! This was my chance to rebuild Hardcore Central, my heart was pounding.

My missus wasn't impressed with my enthusiasm but a man has to have his little escape from the hardships of reality. The inside was fu**ed, it had a manky old lead window with smashed glass and the ivy was coming in through the window and the roof and had spread everywhere, it was a right b***ard to get off! The previous owner was so lazy he had boarded up the paint tins and other stuff against the back wall!.

The first job was to remove the ivy, power wash the walls and paint the inside, ready for the carpet and underlay to be laid. That ivy is a right b***ard!

Then it was time to board the ceilings and insulate the roof ready for the winter ahead. I used Rockwool and OSB Boards to sort the roof out.

Once this was done it was time to remove the old window.

Make a new frame and steal source some fire glass.

Then it was time to install it.

I then had to install stud work.

Then plaster board the walls along with insulation. Skim the joins and start painting along with frame building for the decks and wall supports for the vinyl cases to hold all my other little babies!.

As the weeks went by i installed the rest of the casings, wired all the electrics, completed the framework for the vinyls and decks and added all the finishing touches that would see the re-birth of Hardcore Central.

      It's 90% done but i'm loving it!.

My babies! All 16,000 of them!. MMmmmmm!!!!

      The main hub!

The sports and PS3 section, aka Sports Lounge.

Some of the hand painted murals took F***ing ages!

      Hardcore Will Never Die!!!!!!!

      The wheels of steel!

Radiator to save on electric heating extortion!

Wanky old bush removed from lawn and Hardcore Central gets a lick of paint to finish the rebirth.

      Oh, and a new door.

So there you go. Hopefully now i'll get some time to spend back on the forum. Hope everyone is doing well and that all is good on the forum, it's been a while but i just had to get this done.

Nice work mate, I'd love my own retreat but our back yard won't take a wendy house.

A couple of things you need though. An alarm and a camera with a flash. ;D

Alarm is on it's way mate. As for the camera, i used my Nokia X6 cameraphone and when i have flash on i get a yellowy tinge in the picture. Don't know why though.

Just guessing here but is most of your vinyl dance dating back to the late 80s?

Thanks mate, it did take a lot of time and it was hard keeping away from the forum but when i get stuck into something i'm fully committed and nothing stops me.

It's all old skool hardcore from the early 90's, all underground stuff, pure hardcore. Mixed in with hardcore techno from Holland and Germany from the mid-90's and industrial hardcore from Holland, Germany and France which is still going strong to this present day.

Nothing beats the purity and sound quality of vinyl, ask any purist and they'll all tell you the same, vinyl is final.

Please do not get this hardcore mixed up with that gay bullshit cheesy w*nk sh*te that you see on the telly. DJ Dougal and all that Billy Bunter bollocks, that is speeded up chipmunk sh*te. They should be stoned to death for crimes against hardcore as they sell the product as something it isn't. It's about as hardcore as dog sh*t.

This hardcore is flat out ballistic mind ripping tunage of gargantuan proportions. Out of all my mates from the old skool rave scene there's only me and Leightz left, always loved it and always will, even when i'm eighty.

Just to give you a clue as to what type of music it is here's a couple of tracks i've been caning the guts out of today, enjoy and remember these tracks are twenty years old, hardcore was so far ahead of it's time -

Yeah i know, to be honest i am quite proud of myself, went from being nearly kicked out of my school for behavioral and attendance issues in year 10 to being one of the top performing students in the 6th form for a levels and that all came from persevering myself to change and take my education seriously.

Every time you look at that now you must feel so proud of what its been made into, i know i would :D You should have a before and after picture stuck up somewhere to show off your skills to whoever enters.

That is an incredible set up man. One day I hope to have that kind of collection. Towards the end of last year I started realising that I wasn't enjoying listening to music on my iPod or through a computer, I got better speakers and better headphones and downloaded better quality files but of course it is like putting band aids on a broken arm isn't it? I realised vinyl is what I need and this has been my inspiration to finally pick up a turntable to play some of the records I've collected. Music has become too much of a fashion and not enough of an experience and I want that experience back!

I understand the Technics SL-1200 is one of the most widely used players and considered a top starter turntable. Is this one you can recommend?

Yes mate, you are right, the Technics SL-1200's are the most widely used turntables but that's because they have been the industry standard for three decades and some. I'm not one hundred percent sure but i think they have a maximum pitch range of only 8% and some models have a multiplier which outputs the range to +/- 16%. Not much use unless you're a house DJ or play commercial stuff. They stopped making the 1200 at the end of 2010 due to 'supposed market changes'. Though in reality it was due to other manufacturers producing better turntables while Technics stood still. The first Technics turntable was almost perfect but they never adapted it to the times, their ultimate downfall.

I did a lot of research before buying my decks and i opted for the Vestax PDX-2300MkII Pro's. They had Ultra Pitch which gives you a pitch range of +/- 60%!. Due to the diversity of hardcore music it opens up the possibility of mixing any vinyl i have with pitch ramge to spare by the bucketload. It had better motors, better componentry and better build quality than the Technics. Numark also make solid turntables if you're looking for something middle range that you won't use much.

It all depends on how much you love your tunage i suppose. A few of my mates bought Technics on the back of their reputation and they all sold them when they saw the Vestax. If you pay top money for decks then you expect top quality and up to date features, something Panasonic failed to adhere to. You can't live off you reputation forever, you have to evolve.

Are you a fan of hardcore music by chance? Couldn't tell.

      :D

      Well done.

      Just a bit mate.  :D

Hahah there is no sh*te like that in my plot.

Well in Andy, the missus has turned our decking area into a F***ing rainforest!.I came home yesterday and there was bamboo, strawberry plants, tomato plants, plastic baby greenhouse things and the dreaded LED solar lights!.

You know the ones, instead of buying tidy ones she buys a pair of lights for £3.99 and wonders why after 2 days that one doesn't work and the other one is flashing like a strobe laser @ Universe Big Love ( old 90's hardcore rave )!
