FA Cup quarter final 1988/89 - Liverpool FC v Brentford FC charity auction
      May 22, 2012 09:20:55 pm
      Good Evening

I'm posting as a Brentford FC supporter - specifically regarding one of our youngest fans, four year old Connor Whipp,  whom the club is currently making a huge effort to raise money for. Connor has been diagnosed with a rare form of childhood cancer known as Neuroblastoma and so to have the opportunity of maybe getting his life back, his family and friends are hoping to raise sufficient funds to enable him to receive specialist treatment in America.

As such, the club have backed a number of initiatives, one of which is the auction of some unique football memorabilia.
Amongst these, we have an item dating back to the 88/889 FA Cup quarter final between our respective sides whichLiverpool eventually won 4-0.

It's an adidas tango football, issued for the game and signed by the then Liverpool squad. One of  the Brentford team(Allan Cockram) managed to get one and this ball has been in his possession ever since.

However, he has agreed to donate this to the auction, which ends on Thursday. Whilst this is of personal importance to him, he is happy to give this up in order that it can help Conner whilst, at the same time, going to a Brentford or Liverpool fan who would treasure this as much as he has.

It goes without saying what the following game was and we're fully aware of all that surrounds this for Liverpool FC.
As such, I really hope you won't take this in the wrong light. We're just trying to help a young lad have a chance against this terrible illness.

Full details of Connor's appeal and the auction itself can be found at the Brentford FC website, on the link below
