I don't know? If all else fails at Anfield this season why not roll out Mighty Red and his "mad dance"! Then he can get chased around the field by hundreds of our fans to that funny Benny Hill music.

...and watch as they beat him to death!  :D

This is great for the kids but thank god it's not going to be on matchdays. Hopefully forever.

Charlton have a mascot on matchdays all they do is have a kick about with the kids who are mascots and entertain the kids in the crowd during the game who are of the age where they may not necessarily be interested in the actual game.

Sounds like he should be on a register!

For those asking, Mighty Red won't be going anywhere near the pitch next season - he's here to help engage with kids at community events

      Thank f**k for that.

Paul Rogers is an employee of LFC.  ;)

      Well thank God...

Good for merchandising really... Now the club will be selling the mascot toys, stickers and clothing.  Easy for the parents to buy their young kids presents that are Liverpool-related.

I have mentioned on a thread way back in the archives about the Blackpool mascot many years ago it was a duck and it was dyed yellow to look gold. This was in the Stanley Mathews/.Mortenson days and they used to bring it on the pitch before kickoff and let it run around the centre circle. The last time I can remember the duck would be in the 1950s.

I don't like the fact that Jen Chang put "this season" on his tweet. "Ever" would have been more settling.

      Thought that myself.
The thing that worries me is that sooner or later, they might go that extra step to link the mascot with the club/team in the eyes of kids. Put it this way, they'd be a lot more excited about seeing a character come into their party if they'd seen him at a match or on TV, making him a celebrity in their eyes.

That bird is ugly, they could have done so much better. I don't like it and no way I would like to see it on the pitch.

      This , all day.
I thought it was a joke at first , but no , it's for real.
I think lots of kids will be terrified of it .

Now there's a thought , we could use it to terrify the opposition! :f_tongueincheek:

Should only go to away matches and attack other team's mascots. Sort of It's a knockout except at OT where Mighty Red takes a cosh to do Fred The Red.

I and the local kids might appreciate it more then!

Whenever I see this type character, even at kids parties, I feel like punching them in the head.

I don't think it helps my perception of the thing that in the picture, it appears to be doing the Harry Enfield, "Calm down, calm down... a  a  a..."

There is no harm in this.  It's silly and appears designed solely for the sake of children.  Not a big deal in my opinion.

Agree with this, the kids will love it and before long there will be little replica birds going for a tenner a pop and soft shites like myself will buy them.

No harm as long as it stays as it is, that being away from the pitch.
