      Ryan McLaughlin (Released)
      Aug 06, 2012 11:35:47 am
Couldn't find a thread for him.

From what I've seen he's a player with a lot of promise. In fact, I like him more than Flanagan. That just confirms it:

Liverpool's Ryan McLaughlin called up to Northern Ireland squad

Liverpool teenager Ryan McLaughlin has received a first call-up to the Northern Ireland squad for the friendly against Finland in Belfast next week.
The 17-year-old defender has impressed at Anfield and made his Reds debut in the pre-season friendly against Roma at Fenway Stadium in Boston last month.
The former Glenavon full-back signed a three-year deal with the Premier League giants in 2011.
There is no place for Northern Ireland's record scorer David Healy.
The striker has no club at present after his contract at crisis-hit Rangers expired in June.
McLaughlin, who has played in Northern Ireland youth teams, made 12 appearances for Liverpool's reserves last season.
The Finland friendly is a warm-up ahead of Northern Ireland's opening World Cup qualifier against Russia in Moscow on 7 September.
Michael O'Neill's team takes on group minnows Luxembourg four days later at Windsor Park.
      Northern Ireland squad:
Goalkeepers: Lee Camp (Nottingham Forest), Roy Carroll (Olympiakos), Alan Mannus (St Johnstone)
Defenders: Gareth McAuley (West Brom), Ryan McGivern (Manchester City), Aaron Hughes (Fulham), James McPake (Hibs), Lee Hodson (Watford), Craig Cathcart (Blackpool), Chris Baird (Fulham), Daniel Lafferty (Burnley), Ryan McLaughlin (Liverpool)
Midfielders: Steven Davis (Southampton), Dean Shiels (Rangers), Chris Brunt (West Brom), Corry Evans (Hull City), Pat McCourt (Celtic), Oliver Norwood (Huddersfield Town)
Forwards: Jamie Ward (Derby County), Martin Paterson (Burnley), Kyle Lafferty (FC Sion), Andrew Little (Rangers)

Congrats to him. And remember he's only 17.

Been very impressed with him. Been keeping a close eye on him as he is from part of Belfast as me. He deserves the call up. One thing I would say is that NI are keen to bring young players in to the first team very early on to give them a few minutes, meaning they can not switch allegiance to ROI. That shouldn't take away from him though. Very talented.

Making me proud is our Ryan. Lad from the same part of Belfast as me, doing well at Liverpool. Here is an interview with him done by BBC NI done after the game with Crusaders in Belfast, which he comes across quite well in:

Called up to the senior Northern Ireland squad for their game on Wednesday. Expected to play right back.

      Well in Ryan!

With this lad coming through behind Glen, Kelly, Wisdom and himself it's honestly the strongest in my memory we've been at right back in "potential". It's a shame for young Flanno, but I honestly don't see him in the same league as any of these lads and I don't think it will be long before McGlaughlin will be shoved up the ladder. Wisdom is of course more of a centre back where McLaughlin looks much more natural as a right back. It's brilliant to see competition for places actually getting this strong, let's hope it can start to spread across all positions.

I rate him higher than both Wisdom and Flanagan, great little player.

Hope he gets some first team action this season.

He was the best player on the pitch last night. Looks like he has loads of energy. Always looked hungry to get down the wing and beat his man. Its great to see we have a very good batch of youngsters that can push on to greater things. Well done lad. I wonder can he play for the Republic.

Kid looks like the real deal. He may have some work ahead of him as when we are healthy we are pretty stacked at our fullback positions but that's a good problem to have and hopefully it will make him work his balls off to get in the first team.

Wish the lad would get a real go in the first team. Especially in the formation we're in. Wing back would fit him up and down.

How's he been doing in the u21's? Was thinking of him the other day.

Lucas out, Hendo central - could be a chance for him if Wisdom isn't first choice.

Definitely mate. Hasn't he even played one or two games as a winger this year?

He's been doing well mate.  A few assists I think not sure if he's scored.  Was played on the right of a midfield 3 last week the lad did well.

why not start him against Newcastle and if he starts having a shocker bring on Johnson that way we dont risk Johnson getting injured again. Or give Ilori a chance as RWB as he's got the pace and looks comfortable on the ball

For those of you who haven't seen this yet:

Transfer window: Barnsley sign Liverpool's Ryan McLaughlin

Barnsley have signed Liverpool full-back Ryan McLaughlin on a 28-day loan deal.
The 19-year-old Northern Ireland Under-21 international is yet to make his debut for the Premier League side.
He told Barnsley's website:  "While I'm here I want to be playing as much football as I can and do well for the team."
McLaughlin could make his debut for the Championship strugglers in Saturday's game at Charlton

      http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/25668455

Wishing Ryan the best of luck. Anyone who has watched the under 21's will know this lad has obvious talent. Hopefully he will come back after impressing for Barnsley kick on and get his debut by the end of the year.

Wow my other half will be ecstatic if he helps to keep them in the Championship.  Really struggling to get any momentum going to pick up wins/points.  A new manager now in place, let's hope he gets to make an impression.

Do you think there is any significance in the fact that it is such a short term loan? Meaning..... he may be seen as close to challenging for the first team on his return?

Not sure mate, Teixeria had a 1 month loan at Brentford that proved pretty fruitless earlier this season.
