      'Classic' Films You've Never Watched
      Nov 02, 2012 12:32:25 am
After discussing this last night I thought it would be interesting to see what classic films or series of films we haven't watched for whatever reason.

The first that comes into my head is one I always intend to watch around Christmas is It's A Wonderful Life.

      Hopefully sort that this year.

Also a couple of Kubrick that I've never seen and it's not that I haven't wanted too, just never got round to it.

      Dr. Strangelove

      2001: A Space Odyssey

Then Rodders dared mention he'd never watched The Godfather films and could take or leave Goodfellas :o

I've never seen Dr Zhivago or Lawrence Of Arabia either HTH!

Add to my list Citizen Kane.

I consider myself a bit of a film buff, probably like you lads, and this could get embarrasing as it appears many of the considered classics are not one's we've bothered watching.

I see a couple of war films creeping in there Rodders and I think you mentioned you're not that big a fan of those.

In my opinion Platoon is the best Vietnam War film and is actually loosly based on Oliver Stones experiences during that war.

I've bolded the one's I've still to see and can't believe there's so many I've missed.

Of the other HTH Blade Runner is an absolute must and a Science Fiction classic.

Apart from Psycho, The Birds is the only Hitchcock I've seen and it's a great film and another one to watch.

Galdiator is another excellent film and one of Russel Crowe's best perfromances but Titanic I can take or leave.

Los of classics listed here that I've seen, but only once, some because seeing them again could ruin the my memories from the first time I saw them (Heartbreak Ridge, which I watched with my grandad the day before he passed), some because although it's a classic and brilliant film, it has no re-watchabilty for me (Amadeus and Citizane Kane) or I simply don't want to put myself through it again, Schindler's List and The Piano, for example.

And yet I could watch an Okay film, like Last Of The Boy Scouts every day.

Needed Imdb for a bit of inspiration have to admit until earlier in the year the Godfather trilogy was my ones but watched them all (Godfather 2 wipes floor with anything I've seen).

I think the ones in the locker now are probably the LOTR series never seen any of them.

Couple of others I'd like to strike of are One flew over the Cuckoos Nest & also never really sat thru a full film of Alien series saw bit of ones as a young un.

Read the books as well, I love it when film and book both work, Misery, for that reason, would be in my Top 25.

Misery is a great adapataion of a book but wouldn't get near my top 25 films.

The Searchers is one on my list to watch and I'm trying to work my way throught the Westerns I haven't seen yet as my Dad is a massive Western fan, John Wayne in particular but I've always preferred the Leone and Eastwood one's myself.

Have tried on several occasions to watch classic war films like Platoon, Saving Private Ryan, The Hurt Locker but just can't do it.  Maybe it's because they are so true to the real thing.

Absolutely love the Lord of the Rings Trilogy and can't wait for The Hobbit to come out next year.

Bit of a side point but there is no way I would put The Hurt Locker down as a classic alongside films such as Platoon and Saving Private Ryan, it's not in the same league.
The final scene in the latter (at the cemetery) tends to bring a lump to my throat) because, as you said, so many people must feel that way in real life.

I threw the Hurt Locker in cos my daughter refers to it as a classic, she loves all those films.  Like I said Rep I've started to watch all of them too many times but always turn them off after 20mins or so.

George you must try and watch The Godfather.
