Hopefully debut against West Brom then

Could also be something as simple as he needs to go back and get his things from Milan

But you're probably right, it's probably to do with the work permit and all.

Those of you on here and you know who you are, can you allow this kid a bit of time to adjust to his new life here and get match fit before, having built hm up as the next Pele, turn on him after his debut doesn't go off with a bang.

If you allow this time you will then reap the reward of liking him down the line rather then developing a hate for him because he didnt set the world on fire in his first game or 2.

Not sure if you guys know, but words in Portuguese finishing with "inho" means "little". For example: a translation of Ronaldinho would be Little Ronaldo. The termination "ão", on the other hand, means "big" - that's why Felipão (the 2002 World Cup winning manager) is called Big Phil in England.

Lots of people have "inho" added to their names as nicknames, usually in affectioned manner. Most of those nicknames date from the person's childhood but stick to the rest of their lives. I have two cousins Marcio and Marcelo, for example, who are now nearing 40 years of age, yet for the family they're still called Marcinho and Marcelinho.

      ... which is not Philippe's case :D

Coutinho is just his surname, and it has nothing to do with the usual Brazilian "inho".

There's nothing to stop us from calling him Philippinho though :P

I've heard this before Diego and was it a case that Ronaldinho added the 'inho' to his name when he first broke into the Brazil squad to save confusion with Ronaldo?

I thught I heard something along those lines.

Not exactly mate, in fact Ronaldo (the fat retired one) was also called Ronaldinho in Brazil, when he was younger.

Then came the other Ronaldinho, which we used to call Ronaldinho Gaúcho ('gaúcho' is the gentilic for people from Rio Grande do Sul, a state in Brazil). With time, though, since the fat Ronaldo was also older, people started to refer to him as only Ronaldo, leaving the 'inho' to the PSG/Barcelona player.

Nowadays everyone refer to the fat one as only Ronaldo and the other one as Ronaldinho.

      I'm an idiot Diego.

I've looked it up and it was 'fat Ronaldo' as you call him I was thinking of as I rememeber in USA 94 he was called Ronaldinho as there was already another Ronaldo, defender, in the squad.

      :D

That seems more likely, yeah. I remember the defender Ronaldo in 94, he was also called Ronaldão at times, cause he was huge!

I also remember me and my brother - too little kids then - asking for Ronaldo to play, but he didn't get any minutes in that competition. Not that we needed him though (Bebeto and Romário formed a legendary striking partnership), but Ronaldo was a young sensation then and we loved him.
