Jamie Carragher To Retire At The End Of The Season

one thing for certain now though, we DEFO need a new defender in the summer.

It's truly been an honour to watch a truly great servent come through. Was a bit coltish initially - all enthusiasm and optimism but matured into the player who for me represents the perfect artisan.

He learned his trade and became highly skilled in the art of defending - for me the best pure defender in the country for quite a number of years. Remember second half and extra time in Istanbul - he seemed at times to be defying Milan through sheer heart and will.

Genuinely feel quite emotional - possibly prompted by my very emotional 9yr old phoning to draw my attention to it.

Players like Carra & Stevie make you realise that watching sports is worth it.

This made me sad, although we knew that it was inevitable. Going to be as emotional as the day when Hyppia left.

Always had massive respect for Jamie, LFC through and through.
Hopefully, the club will be offering him a staff role in due course.

Like many have said we knew it was coming but the news still hit me. To not have our famous 23 in the squad at the start of next season will be very strange.

In the days now of squad numbers would love to see the club retire his number.

A true legend and I'm sure a few tears will be shared at the QPR game, close to impossible to replace him .I really hope we haven't seen the last of him come May and he does stay on in a coaching capacity.

Stunned and gutted at this news.

Really thought he would carry on for another season and his form recently is enough to deserve another year.

I knew it was coming some day soon, this season, the next, the one after.... thought I had myself ready to say Cheers Carra and move on.

But a lad like Carra doesn't even come around once in a lifetime, he's much rarer than that. In the day and age when ridiculous money has been thrown at players, where loyalty is a word thrown around to mae people happy before the next big pay day comes Carra was unique. I know he says he never had the offers but in my mind they would never have mattered.

I am genuinely sad at this news. And I thought long and hard about what word best describes how i feel about this. We have a few games left to enjoy and respect one of the greatest men to ever represent Liverpool Football Club and the city of Liverpool.

He is a hero to me, I'm hardly still a kid and I have no problem saying I still look up to Jamie Carragher.

Quite literally worth his weight in gold.... 23 Carra Gold.

With Carra going and Stevie Gerrard not far behind I wonder if we will ever again have players who played their entire football life at Liverpool Football Club.It makes me sad that the answer is probably no because sorry to say but most footballers are mercenaries these days.Anyway the time to thank Carra for his loyalty will be at the end of the season or at his testimonial match which he will surely have.
