      50 for Luis
      Mar 02, 2013 07:57:11 pm
Luis Suarez' hatrick today took his tally of goals for Liverpool Football Club up to 49. Meaning his next goal will give him the half century and become only the 51st player to achieve that milestone and only the 8th in the Premiership era.

Not bad for a fella who isn't a goalscorer eh?

Looking forward to seeing our number 7 celebrate his 50th goal for Liverpool.

49 in 90. That's a good record, and as you said esp for someone who doesn't score! ;D

I fully believe he will eclipse Torres's record, and we called him prolific.

Torres: 81 goals in 142 appearances (1 every 1.75 games)
Suarez: 49 goals in 90 appearances (1 every 1.84 games)

But I'd be very interested to see the assist stats.

Let's hope Suarez is here way past his 100th appearance.

I also believe Suarez would leave Torres for dead if you was to compare workrates between the two. Also if we had of had Sturridge andCoutinho at the start of the season were would Suarez be with his goal tally now.

I'm guessing someone, somewhere, said that. Whoever it was obviously wasn't aware of his record for Ajax - 81 in 110 games - and the reason 'we' bought him. A really shrewd signing that and talk about "value for money"...

As much as i rated Torres in his pomp, he did have a fantastic team behind him. I mean, 08-09 was probably one of Stevies best seasons, Alonso was a BEAST, MAsch was bossing the midfield...what a team.

For Luis to reach 50 only 6-7 games after him, in this squad says quite a lot. The man is a genious, and whats scary is that i know he still isnt at his best! Oh yes, he CAN do better.

49 and not a single pen!

This season, only Messi scored more goals without penalties and Luis is just 3 away from 2nd spot in Europe

      He is quite simply fantastic.

Wish i could describe him in words but i can't.

Even though defenders know what he's going to do they are still powerless to stop him. Am really hoping he stays with us after the Summer, we have to show we can match his ambition.

Well done Luis, we all love you.

Pointless, miserable post. No need, you could have waited until he hit fifty before posting/moaning.

I too would love to see the assists stats. Although I loved Torres when he was here its fair to say that Suarez has covered more ground already than Nando did in his whole time here.

Such a shame that it would probably never ever be possible for him to win Player of the Year. Actually, the one that players vote is possible I suppose isn't it?

Wow, wasn't aware about this. Great little player and I will say myself, I never had him down as a goalscorer, in particular at the end of last season. I would like to take some credit for this, however. After meeting him in Tesco at the start of the year, I would like to admit that I taught him everything, hence his good run. Seems he listened! ;)

Suarez is way too F***ing good. He can score, he can pass you balls on a plate, he can make defenders trip balls.

And now that we have clever players like Sturridge and Coutinho playing with him, I am just drooling at the prospect.

Better than Torres in his prime.

Torres was the best finisher we could ever dream of in his prime.  Suarez is a better footballer, but Torres' pace and his finishing were just something else. As much as I like Suarez, I must admit that Torres is the better finisher. At his peak Torres was the best in the world.

Suarez, for me, is the better of the two.
Then I would take Torres' peak to have been his first season, 07-08.
That's the only season where you could argue a case for Torres as the better outright striker.
Even then it's marginal looking at the stats for that season and Suarez this season.

      Torres 07/08:
      Games - 46.
      Goals - 33.
      Assists - 5.

      Suarez 12/13, so far:
      Games - 38.
      Goals - 28.
      Assists - 10.

      Goals - 33.

      Suarez 12/13, so far:
      Games - 38.
      Goals - 28.
      Assists - 10.

I would have thought Erik Meijer was miles ahead of any striker for the worst striker to ever represent the club.

But on Luiz, he's by far the best player in the premiership, no arguments, miles above the rest. Keep it up and i expect him to cross the 100 mark before the end of next season, meaning he will definitely be here all u pessimists. I even have a mate of mine praying he stops scoring so other clubs dont get desperate for his service, but i say walk on Luiz and set the world on fire with ur dazzling skills o u KING of NUTMEGS, no other player does it better.

And i believe with this frustrating goal machine we'll definitely come 4th this season. I still believe.

Suarez, for me, is the better of the two.
Then I would take Torres' peak to have been his first season, 07-08.
That's the only season where you could argue a case for Torres as the better outright striker.
Even then it's marginal looking at the stats for that season and Suarez this season.

      Torres 07/08:
      Games - 46.
      Goals - 33.
      Assists - 5.

      Suarez 12/13, so far:
      Games - 38.
      Goals - 28.
      Assists - 10.

Personally I would argue that with 8 game less and only 5 goals then Suarez is the better striker... If he scores 5 in 8 (yes a big ask but he is bang on form) then he is no doubt the better player, and indeed striker!

Perhaps Torres was more clinical at his peak, but he required the team to be set up to suit his strengths.

Luis is a better all round footballer, he doesn't have the pace of Torres (but he's certainly not slow) but he has skills that Torres can only dream of.
At his best, Luis is nothing short of a genius: incredible touch, close control, tenacity, strength, guile. Add those attributes to his ability to find space and his natural aggression and you have the most complete striker in the premier league.

If I had one criticism of Luis, it would be that he didn't get his head up and look for a pass inside the box often enough, but to be fair, we were getting so few players in the box at that time that he was probably right in being a bit selfish. However, in the 2nd half of this season, we have seen that not only he can get his head up and spot the pass, but he can also do it whilst going through/past defenders.

An incredible player, and we're lucky to have him.

Suarez could arguably play anywhere in the front four.
Torres could only play as the front man.

I'd say Suarez has far more to his game.
Torres had pace and accuracy, now his pace is gone.

      Suarez can play off Sturridge.
Suarez can play the false 9.
      Suarez can play out wide.

By far the more complete of the two players.

      Agreed, just some pointers:
      Luis has not yet peaked
He has the most amount of assists in the league ( and by assist i mean passes that resulted in clear cut scoring opportunities... Just a pity only 4 resulted in goals, what gives us something to think about), so his not getting his head up is no more than a myth.

I'm not sure it was a myth before this season mate, but like I said, perhaps circumstances and a lack of support dictated his options, or lack of them.

      Total passes    1036
      Pass completion   75.1 %
Attacking zone pass completion   73 %
Final third pass completion   73 %
      Successful dribbles   78
      Total crosses   46
      Crossing accuracy   30 %
Chances created in open play (non assists)    69
Chances created from set pieces  (non assists)    5
      Minutes per chance created   31
      Total assists   4

percentages pretty much in line with last season, but he created even more last season

Looks like he passes enough, in the zone where it matters. Given the amount of conversion of the chances he creates for others, I think he didnt trust his team mates enough to finish off, hence he shoots himself on occasions. So, in a nutshell, numbers say he does get his head up, and passes a LOT, but seeing the little effectivity, he tends to finish himself.

He creates more, so he is selfish on more occasions...as a percentage of chances created, i dont think he is selfish overall, just that the insane amount of chances he creates lets him shoot himself more times, but as a percentage, they are what you expect for a goalscorer, and even better.

50 goals in 91 games. (a goal every 1.76 games)

Before this season it was in 21 goals 52 games. (a goal every 2.47 games)

Just shows how far he's come on this season. 29 goals in 39 games. (a goal every 1.34 games)

And this calendar year he's improved even further 13 goals in 13 games (a goal every game)

Now the difficult part...pick the best of the 50.

I think his best was at home to Newcastle when he took all of the pace and sting out of Enrique's long pass and coolly slotted past Krul. Immense talent required to do that and Luis made it look so easy.

Before it was stevie dragging the team along now at long last he has some major back up to ease the burden ,fck me even Downing is getting the message ,hard work and all that.
