Personally I would argue that with 8 game less and only 5 goals then Suarez is the better striker... If he scores 5 in 8 (yes a big ask but he is bang on form) then he is no doubt the better player, and indeed striker!

I'm not arguing that Torres is better.
The point was put to me that Torres in his prime was better.
      I don't think he was.

Wow, wasn't aware about this. Great little player

      "Great little player"?!

That title is reserved for someone like Sterling. Suarez is a footballing genius...!!!

      I don't think he was.

Perhaps Torres was more clinical at his peak, but he required the team to be set up to suit his strengths.

Luis is a better all round footballer, he doesn't have the pace of Torres (but he's certainly not slow) but he has skills that Torres can only dream of.
At his best, Luis is nothing short of a genius: incredible touch, close control, tenacity, strength, guile. Add those attributes to his ability to find space and his natural aggression and you have the most complete striker in the premier league.

If I had one criticism of Luis, it would be that he didn't get his head up and look for a pass inside the box often enough, but to be fair, we were getting so few players in the box at that time that he was probably right in being a bit selfish. However, in the 2nd half of this season, we have seen that not only he can get his head up and spot the pass, but he can also do it whilst going through/past defenders.

An incredible player, and we're lucky to have him.

Suarez could arguably play anywhere in the front four.
Torres could only play as the front man.

I'd say Suarez has far more to his game.
Torres had pace and accuracy, now his pace is gone.

      Suarez can play off Sturridge.
Suarez can play the false 9.
      Suarez can play out wide.

By far the more complete of the two players.

I think we can add vision to the list as well.
The longer pass he plays with the outside of his right foot is nothing short of magnificent.

      Agreed, just some pointers:
      Luis has not yet peaked
He has the most amount of assists in the league ( and by assist i mean passes that resulted in clear cut scoring opportunities... Just a pity only 4 resulted in goals, what gives us something to think about), so his not getting his head up is no more than a myth.

I'm not sure it was a myth before this season mate, but like I said, perhaps circumstances and a lack of support dictated his options, or lack of them.

      Total passes    1036
      Pass completion   75.1 %
Attacking zone pass completion   73 %
Final third pass completion   73 %
      Successful dribbles   78
      Total crosses   46
      Crossing accuracy   30 %
Chances created in open play (non assists)    69
Chances created from set pieces  (non assists)    5
      Minutes per chance created   31
      Total assists   4

percentages pretty much in line with last season, but he created even more last season

Looks like he passes enough, in the zone where it matters. Given the amount of conversion of the chances he creates for others, I think he didnt trust his team mates enough to finish off, hence he shoots himself on occasions. So, in a nutshell, numbers say he does get his head up, and passes a LOT, but seeing the little effectivity, he tends to finish himself.

He creates more, so he is selfish on more occasions...as a percentage of chances created, i dont think he is selfish overall, just that the insane amount of chances he creates lets him shoot himself more times, but as a percentage, they are what you expect for a goalscorer, and even better.

50 goals in 91 games. (a goal every 1.76 games)

Before this season it was in 21 goals 52 games. (a goal every 2.47 games)

Just shows how far he's come on this season. 29 goals in 39 games. (a goal every 1.34 games)

And this calendar year he's improved even further 13 goals in 13 games (a goal every game)

Now the difficult part...pick the best of the 50.

I think his best was at home to Newcastle when he took all of the pace and sting out of Enrique's long pass and coolly slotted past Krul. Immense talent required to do that and Luis made it look so easy.

Great figures above from a great player.

The best goal is the one that wasn't ruled a goal for him. Against the Mancs. The one Kuyt finished off.

      Unreal player.
