Kolo Touré Player Thread (Released)

He was a beast tonight.

Haha, would have a heart attack but I genuinely think it's our best partnership and would like Brendan give it a go when Mama's fit actually.

Has to start against Chelsea he was an absolute rock back there.

He's come in for some very harsh and unfair criticism and it was nice to see him play with such heart and desire along with skill.

Well in Kolo cracking effort.

I thought kolo was MOM last night, but in truth it just shows how poor our centre halves have been when you compare him to them. In truth he (aside from a couple of comedy dribbles) didn't do anything utterly unbelievable, he just did what a centre half is supposed to do, namely cleared the ball when it came to him. When they crossed it, kolo headed it out. When they passed it, Kolo booted it out. He didn't overly concern himself with getting us up the pitch (which may be a necessity against anyone less dominant than Madrid, everyone in other words) nor did he bother with tiki taki overly. he just did what proper centre halves do, he blocked it and he cleared it. I like him and always have, he should play against Chelsea if for no other reason than if they get a set-piece, I'd back him over any other player in our squad to get a head on it and clear it.

I'd leave him with Skrtel too. Martin did little wrong either.

Not sure if Kolo will be up to playing again so soon bearing in mind it was his first game in a while, last night would have taken it out of him, 34 year old's take longer to recover.
Kolo reads the game really well so anticipates the play in advance, it's a shame his body is no longer upto regular football.

There was a play yesterday where we lost the ball high up the pitch Ronaldo broke to our box facing up Skrtel and with Benzema to his right, he passed to Benzema who now had Kolo in front of him and Lucas had got back to close him down.
As Ronaldo played a 1-2 with Benzema what does the dunce that is Skrtel do he follows the ball so basically 3 of our players on Benzema and Ronaldo is free. No surprise Benzema passes back to a unmarked Ronaldo in the box but fortunately he cocked it up.

That is the sort of brain dead stuff Skrtel, Lovren and Johnson have been upto recently, simple stuff like following the ball instead of the man or jumping out of the defensive line etc. Shocking from professional footballers.

At least he showed what a bit of experience can do in a big match.

I don't know about Lovren making us worse, but his bottling out of a tackle ought to be something he is given plenty of time to think about. A spell of contemplation sitting on his @rse will do him no harm at all.

I think he's the kind of character our defense has missed. I'd like to see him get more opportunity.

He was so immense in the Real Madrid match, loved his fancy footwork too, made me and my dad laugh, the most entertaining player that day.

I could do with a run around for the other half. Any discounts Kolo lad!

I still think he looks pretty shaky meself, all of our CBs do, it doesn't seem to matter who plays. BUT a step up from the form Lovren has shown without a doubt. Deserves to keep his place in the side
