Arsenal will be the team we will need to out do to finish 4th.... unless they do really well in the transfer season.

Why will we not need to "out do" them if they "do really well" in the transfer market?  :dunce2:

I'd say 3rd or 4th is a realistic goal based on the form from the last few seasons. If Suarez is sold and the money from his sale is reinvested properly, then we have just as much chance of finishing 3rd/4th than if we were to not sell him and bring in one or two more players.

Aspas, Toure, and Papadopoulos would be a good summer in the transfer window for me. Mkhitaryan depends on Suarez being sold in my eyes. If Suarez is sold it means we should have a further odd 20m more to spend also, but I don't know who we would be in for. I for one would love to see Brendan splash out on a few Coutinho like signings with the rest of the money brought in from a potential sale of Suarez.

We do not have the winning mentality to finish 1st next season, we need to improve against the clubs in the lower half of the table to improve our position in the table. Not playing in Europe this season should be an advantage but we've all said this before and still finished below our expectations. I would love to see us getting progressively better each season and improving our league position without spending colossal amounts of money so we can show other 'big spenders' that it can be done without waving 20-30m at every signing.

I do believe Brendan can get us to the top two eventually, just the length of time it will take and the patience of our owners are factors that we cannot determine. Bringing Champions League football back is a priority, it boosts our revenue in so many other ways such as sponsorship revenue, TV revenue and payments from UEFA. If we can attain this, I can then see NESV investing quite heavily to improve our league poisition. If we can regain 3rd/4th spot this season coming, I can see us doing some great things over the next two seasons.

Once Bale leaves Spurs and Martinez messes Everton up we will be at least 5th. Arsenal will be the team we will need to out do to finish 4th.... unless they do really well in the transfer season.

It's simple for me If we tighten up the defence and replace Suarez with a player who can bang more than 20 goals in, I think we'll finish at least 4th.

If we don't address the defending problem as well as trying to replace Carragher, we'll draw or lose too many games and end up finishing 8th.

If we do address the issue at the back but don't bring in a striker who will score goals, we'll draw too many games and finish 6th.

:D Ay, simple it is  ;D

I have to go with 5th.  We cant compete with the top teams now in money.  But with thw right signings we could still give them a run for their money.

With avb rumored to be in talks with psg.  I think they will take a step back.  I also think moyles will bring scum down but that will be next season.  They wont win it, but slowly drop to about 3rd or 4th this year then out of the cl spots next

For sheer fun and luck, I'm taking the morose approach.

      Between 6th and 8th for me!  :o

I believe in miracles, and in catastrophes as well. I just wonder what's the difference between people expecting we'll end up Champions or 13th! Both options are impossible in my opinion even for the most optimistic/pessimistic of fans. I hope we win all the competitions next season, but I can't complain about finishing 5th really, given the teams we're competing against and the fact that Luis is off to Real. Having said that, 4th will be a nice surprise to welcome the summer with  :kop5cf8koxp6:

I cannot see us getting better than 4th. Brendan is doing well but it isn't going to be 7th to 1st, 2nd or 3rd in one season. As long as we are making progress then that's what matters and if we finish 5th or 6th then we just have to grit our teeth and accept it.

I think 5th - 6th would be both realistic and a sign of progression if we have managed to sustain a fight for 4th place going into the last month of the season.

We have to bear in mind that drafting in several new players could see a period of gelling required, but I'm confident we will have enough attacking power to do some real damage whilst finding some form of synergy.

Top four is a big ask and whilst I'd love us to make a Champions League return. I still feel it is important to be honest and sensible so as not to be disappointed come next May.

      Runners up... just behind Arsenal.

Think about it; they've got a sweet head start on us with all those years spent honing (to perfection) a prudent business model, value for money transfers, the philosophy of youth and a creative passing game... we can't expect to just beat them overnight.  ;D

The difference being, we spend the money we have. They rarely (if at all) spend the money they have.
