      Reds announce Subway partnership

          By Neil Jones

Liverpool FC have announced their latest “global partnership deal”, signing a multi-year collaboration with US-based restaurant chain Subway.

The deal will be officially unveiled later today and to kick-start the relationship, the Subway brand has been sending its range of Low Fat Subs to participants on Liverpool FC Foundation programmes all week.

The move follows similar link-ups with Vauxhall, Garuda Indonesia and Dunkin' Donuts, as Liverpool look to expand its commercial revenue ahead of its return to Champions League football next season.

Billy Hogan, the club's chief commercial officer, said.“We’re delighted to welcome the Subway brand as an official partner to Liverpool FC.

“We’ve worked closely with the Subway team over the last few weeks and have seen first-hand value they place on giving back to local communities.

“We are excited to be joining forces with a global organisation who are just as passionate about making a positive difference to their communities as we are.”

Subway has over 41,000 stores across the world, with 1,769 in the UK – 31 of which are in and around Liverpool.

Earlier this year the brand announced ambitious plans to increase this number to 3,000 SUBWAY® stores in the UK and Ireland over the next six years, creating around 13,000 new jobs.

Manaaz Akhtar, regional marketing director for the Subway brand in Europe, commented “As a brand, we are committed to supporting everyone to be more active in their everyday lives and our partnership with Liverpool FC provides us with the perfect opportunity to demonstrate this and take it to the next level.

“Whether playing at the top of the Premier League or just having a kick about in the park, the Subway brand can offer a wide range of nutritious options to help you deliver your best performance”.

Definitely worth a go mate, the sauces completely ruin the healthy aspect of it though. Can highly recommend the Italian B.M.T. spicy little bugger with Southwestern sauce, full salad without olives and jalapenos for me.

Single digit. And way below shirt and kit sponsorship deals. The club probably needs five or six such deals to match a shirt or kit sponsorship deal.

Haven't had anything other than a milkshake or icecream from McDonalds since that supersize me thing came out. Me and my Mrs agreed, she could have the fries and I could have the shake/icecream but nothing else since that day. It's rotten food, I thought the funniest thing going was when the salads had more calorie content than the burger meals due to the dressings they used. The way it's targeted at children is nothing new of course but just gives me a bad feeling about the entire company and its lack of any morals.

I don't care if they put ground up kittens in the oil they use to fry their french fries...I still love them :lmao:

I don't frequent McDonalds mind you...everything in moderation...and if parents aren't smart enough to be able to make good decisions for their kids and not take them to McDonalds for every meal....well......that's not McDonald's fault now is it ;)

On Subway...they are by no means the best sandwich shops over here in the states, but they are by far the most numerous. I eat there a lot when I'm traveling for work just because it's fairly simple to keep my calories under control. I'm not in love with their food but it's a good alternative to all of the other fast food over here. They partner with a lot of athletes in the states, but have never seen them sponser a club before...although I could be wrong.

Subway is not a bad place, there are a lot of them over here in Chicago. I like them more than most of the other sandwich shops, however none of them put enough meat on the damn sandwich. Makes me mad, obviously that way they save money if most of the sandwich is lettuce, so if there is meat in the fridge when I get home, I load that sucker up.

Great for LFC though, more money in the bank. Ironic how we partner up with Dunkin Donuts a sugary glob of goodness and then subway, low fat healthy alternative!

I may be mistaken but I think one dunkin donut has less calories (and maybe fat) than a typical 6" sub.

I prefer the donuts personally ;D

But can you make one donut a meal ;)

I would rather polish off a couple of donuts rather than eat a sandwhich as well, unfortunately that is unacceptable in today's "health crisis" in America.

Definitely healthier than donuts though. And McDonalds has virtually no healthy options, subway has plenty of great healthy choices.

I prefer pizza though, deep dish. Do not care how unhealthy it is. Hopefully that is next on LFC's agenda!

I think I've actually eaten in a Subway store in Liverpool when I was there. I know I did in London, because there was one just around the corner near the hostel I was staying. I remember thinking that they used too much pepper there, in comparison to Brazil. But I like Subway as well, though as a vegetarian I don't have many options.

I'd still like to know what though.
The terms of the deal have not been disclosed. But ballpark annual revenue would be in the region of low to mid single digit range. We draw prespective from similar deals such as Mister Potato's three year c.£6m deal with the Mancs in 2011 which works out to approximately £2m a year. That was 2011 and with some inflationary increase say 50%, the deal could well be around £3m a year for us. And if Ian negotiates for a three to five year partnership, that's a £10m to £15m deal for you. These are just small partnership deals.

Kit and shirt sponsorship deals are the most lucrative. Our kit deal with Warrior is worth £25m a year. Gooners' new deal with Puma is worth £30m a year. Our Standard Chartered shirt deal rakes in about £20m a year.

      Hope this helps.

I don't do Subway and for some reason I had you pegged as someone who liked the beef  Diego but I would have thought there were more vegetable options and permutations than meat.

You can get pretty good none-meant sandwiches at Subway. The Veggie Delite is one of my favorite Lenten sandwiches.

Probably in England, yes - I don't remember very well. Probably in the USA as well.
In Brazil, though, there's only one option, called "Vegetarian" (very creative!) with cheese + vegetables, which is basically what every other sandwich have as default, but the others also have the addition of some kind of meat. There are no special vegetarian option here, but I guess there are more in other countries.

The most important question is "will we be able to buy them at Anfield?"

It's about time they started selling something edible as opposed to overpriced cr*p.

How about a deal with Costa so we can buy something worth drinking?

Is this too much to ask - probably.

What direct benefit in clear words does this give the club for player funds?
Why should I get behind Subway when I'm a Liverpool fan and keep hearing about all these companies using our brand like we are a brothel.
How is this beneficial to me a fan? Is this money being used to fund players?

BTW #I hope this doesn't turn out like an episode of Pawn stars where Subway used to blatantly product place segments in their show with them eating subways saying all great stuff about subway and filming  a whole scene at Subway.

Like on an interview in Melwood you see another player walk past eating some egg white healthy shitty pancake saying yea everyone should get down to Subway.

But as a vegetarian ain't that all you are looking. Sounds to me, young fella, that someone realises how delicious meat, in it's many forms, is and is missing it.  ;D

Put it this way a sandwich which contains only roast beef is way more tasty than a lettuce sandwich; crispy bacon more unctuous than cucumber.

The technical term for 'crispy' bacon is I understand streaky bacon and it is possible to accommodate the veggy fetish with the addition of a small fried tomato - as they say on Masterchef 'facking lavlee'.
Do have a problem with the pig sections they call back bacon tho', you can almost hear the grunt as you masticate porky, unfortunately by some quirk of fate I am surrounded by people who eat only industrial sized pig segments.

Funny that - similar with my old man. Before he got into the building trade he worked as a butcher's boy and that was in the war years. Nothing got wasted!

He was hilarious when my niece (his granddaughter) announced she was a vegetarian at age 12 over 20 years ago.

"Hmmm I don't usually trust vegetarians - they're shifty" - still makes me smile.

If it's not Beef Tea and a soggy pie, it's not worth having at the match :)

I've tried the beef tea and it's salty as hell.  I've tried the 'ordinary' tea made with granulles and weak as dishwater.  The pies are overpriced and tasteless.  Tend to get my food at a local chippie which have to be half decent to keep the custom.

Having said all this I don't mind a prawn sandwich and a glass of champers.  However I prefer a pint of mild and a bowl of scouse.

In other words i'll eat almost anything but I like quality and value for money.

Evolved indeed, I'd still wait to see what transpires with regards to transfers, after the failures to back BR in the past 2 windows.
We have more deals than ever yes?
We have more tv money than ever yes?
We are higher in the prem than ever yes?

Then lets see that money get put into the team. there is no two ways.
They've got rid of players because of wages.
Look a bit stingy to me so far. all this money needs accounting for, because I don't want the owners using us like a sports brand for their own personal gain.
