Frankly the whole midfield was a disgrace

Except Welsh Pirlo when he came on too late.

Emre is very perplexing.  He clearly has a lot of skill but he doesn't play any one position very well.  He is clearly NOT a god pivot in central midfield as he lingers on the ball too long.  You might see a little bit of skill as he dribbles past two midfielders and you're like "wow, that's a player", but then he gets caught on the ball the next three times.  He's probably awesome on the training ground but he's a royal disappointment in games. 

Going forward he is indecisive and seems desperate to pull off a flick or back heel

going backwards he is a nightmare - definite red card, free kick or pen in the making

He is a boy being asked to play as a seasoned pro. At the age of 22 he should be learning his trade from the like Gerrard.......oh that's right we don't have any top class midfielders anymore.

All people were doing last season and the beginning of this was pleading for him to be played in midfield.

How are any of us going to "hound" out a young talent? Do you think Can reads the forum and gets upset because a bunch of forum posters think he's playing like crap and needs a spell on the bench?

No, the players don't read this forum, what a silly thing to say. Because really, if Can was reading this forum, he'd surely start looking around him before losing the ball over and over again during the game.

Don't forget played out of position most of the time , he's been awful of late but i think he'll be a fine player for us , he needs resting .

I wont mention other players his age or younger - but we all know that there is a host of footballers who are his age or younger and performing a lot better than him.

You need to look at what Can has to work with him. Lucas who can't play more than 30mins any more (45 if your generous). Henderson who is shockingly bad at the moment.

You can't expect a 22 year old to carry the midfield by himself.

Lallana is a seasoned pro and more experienced.He should be in his prime. Emre is 22.

Yes, he is quite perplexing. I really liked the look of him when he joined and thought it was only a matter of time until he dropped a bit of weight, upped his stamina before starting to turn into a real beast of a player. Neither has happened, and on top of that his awareness on the ball is shocking, it's like he has tunnel vision.

I've been waiting and waiting for this fella to produce something of note, he's been given a good run of games now and from watching him, I'll stick my neck on the line and say, he's going to be another false dawn - he won't be that top quality midfielder we've so sorely missed.

He's a strange one mate, he shows glimpses of genuine quality but most of the time finds a way to mess up immediately afterwards. I think he will eventually become better at decision making and hopefully the glimpses of quality will become more frequent and longer lasting, but I don't think he will ever become a top player as I hoped.

I think he is worth persevering with as he is still young but he needs to specialise in one position before he becomes just another jack of all trades midfielder.

Lots if talent and ability, but unfortunately he doesn't seem a natural footballer.  He's got more of an American football players build, which sadly doesn't translate well to real footie.....

If I were Jürgen, I'd spend the next year or so trying to convert him into a CB.  He has the natural gifts (height, power, athleticism, and a bit of pace) to play the position.  He just needs to learn how to read the game and properly position himself in this role.  He'll  never be a top CM, so this seems the best route to me.....

Absolutely terrible today. I'm starting to think he will never make it.

Appears to have little or no footballing intelligence.
Just wish he could do one thing really well. Just one.
If he was a brilliant tackler, great play as the one defensive midfielder.
If he had a great engine and speed, brilliant play him as a box to box.
A great passer with vision? Excellent center midfield is his role.
But he isn't any of these.
An utterly infuriating and once again hugely over rated and unreliable player who many, once again like many other players in the squad, believe will develop into a top player.
He won't.
How many more players do we have to sign and over hype until we realize the depressing trend.
