Out for up to six weeks due to ankle injury sustained while playing for Germany U21s. Just as he was looking dominant for them as well.

Played amazing for Germany u21 but took a bad tumble cause the pitch gave way under him when he tried a ronaldo chop and went over on his ankle! He came back on but wasn't looking very mobile! Hope to god he isn't injured because a midfield 3 of Gerrard Can and Henderson excites me a lot!

Out for 6 weeks according to Brendan. Very unlucky for the lad, wish him a quick and complete recovery.

Damn!  Terrible news for the lad, but hopefully he will be back to full form & fitness before the busy Christmas period.  I think we can cope without him until then, but the festive period and 2nd half of the season are when we will really need to rely on our squad depth.

Was looking forward to seeing this lad gradually get more and more game time.....guess it'll just take a bit longer now.

      Real shame for the kid.

Such bullshit Can getting injured after a stellar performance and Germany up 6 nil in a meaningless game. Why did he need to still be on the pitch at that stage just take him off and give some other young lad a run out FFS!!! Players are not being protected while on international duty it's a F***ing joke!!!

I think its times like this when a club manager - Brendan, in this situation - should be on the phone to UEFA, FIFA or even both and explain how international managers are mistreating certain players whilst on the pitch. Hodgson should have been fined for what he did with Sturridge earlier in the year.

There is supposed to be a strong relationship between club managers and the international manager but recently they don't seem to give two shits about anything apart from getting every ounce of energy and strength out of that particular player before he departs back to his club.

I was really looking forward to seeing Can get a decent amount of game time but I guess that's going to be delayed a couple of months. At this rate we'll have the same amount of quality players available as we did last season.

Injured while 6-0 in F***ing useless game, F**k UEFA, i'm full with anger

These are the injuries which can halt a lad's progress, even worse when he's a new player adjusting to our system

Nice interview with Can. Says he should be ready to return next Sunday which is awesome news.

Exclusive - Emre Can: Why I turned down Bayern Munich for Liverpool
Emre Can has revealed how he turned down the chance to return to Bayern Munich because he was so desperate to sign for Liverpool FC this summer.

The Germany Under-21s midfielder, who is closing in on a comeback after a month out with an ankle injury, moved to Anfield from Bayer Leverkusen in July after the Reds activated his Ā£9.75million release clause.

A year earlier Can had made the switch to Leverkusen from Bayern Munich for an undisclosed fee with the Bavarian giants securing a buyback option which could be triggered in 2015.

When Bayern learned of Liverpoolā€™s interest they tried to persuade Can to stay put for a further 12 months on the promise he would then be brought back to the Allianz Arena.

However, a chat with Reds boss Brendan Rodgers convinced the 20-year-old to spurn Pep Guardiolaā€™s advances and head for Merseyside instead.

ā€œBayern had a buyback clause but that didnā€™t kick in until next year,ā€ Can confirmed.

ā€œThere were some discussions with Bayern this summer but I decided the best thing for me would be to accept the opportunity to come to Liverpool.

ā€œBefore I came here I had discussions with Brendan Rodgers and that made my mind up. From those talks I was very positive about this move.

ā€œThis whole club is very ambitious and positive about how it wants to play football. Thatā€™s the way I want to play football too.

ā€œLiverpool believe in the same things and thatā€™s why I came here. I want to stay here for a long time.ā€

Can started out in the youth ranks at his hometown club Eintracht Frankfurt before being snapped up by Bayern Munich at the age of 15 in 2009.

Three years later he made his first-team debut but competing with the likes of Bastian Schweinsteiger, Javi Martinez and Luiz Gustavo for the central midfield roles meant his game time was limited. He only made four Bundesliga appearances.

Bayern have a policy of letting youngsters on the fringes of their squad leave and allow them to gain experience with Toni Kroos, Philipp Lahm and David Alaba among those who have gone elsewhere before returning and firmly establishing themselves.

That was the idea when Can signed a four-year contract with Leverkusen in August 2013 with Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge describing him as ā€œone of the biggest talents in German footballā€.

ā€œThe situation was that I wasnā€™t getting much match time at Bayern,ā€ Can said.

ā€œAs a young player you need games under your belt. Leverkusen wanted me and I took that chance. Iā€™m glad I did as they gave me the chance to play.

ā€œWhen I left Bayern for Leverkusen it was never certain that I would go back there. You can never say what will happen in the future.

ā€œLast season I was fully committed to Leverkusen, I wasnā€™t thinking about what would happen years down the line.

ā€œYou never know what will happen in football. Now Iā€™m here and Iā€™m fully committed to Liverpool.ā€

Can, whose name is pronounced ā€˜Chanā€™, admits he owes a debt of gratitude to Kop legend Sami Hyypia, who was his manager at the BayArena last season.

He became a mainstay of the side as he was used mainly in a defensive midfield role ā€“ scoring four goals in 39 appearances as Leverkusen finished fourth in the Bundesliga and reached the last 16 of the Champions League.

ā€œI went there as a young player who needed to be given the chance to play and Iā€™m very grateful that Sami gave me that chance,ā€ he said.

ā€œI know Sami is a legend here and Iā€™m thankful for everything he did for me.

ā€œI put the effort in during training and played better than others so I got into the team.

ā€œI was able to put into practise everything I learned during my time at Bayern when I was working with players like Schweinsteiger, Martinez and Gustavo. You pick up little things every day. They made major contributions to developing my career.ā€

Canā€™s hopes of making an instant impression at Anfield were dashed as he picked up a calf injury in pre-season.

He recovered and made substitute appearances away to both Manchester City and Tottenham but then suffered ankle ligament damage playing for Germany Under-21s against Romania last month.

He has sat out the past seven matches but hopes to play a part in the Redsā€™ Premier League clash against lowly Queens Park Rangers next Sunday.

ā€œIā€™m feeling much better and I should be back in full training with the first team next week,ā€ he said. ā€œI got a blow on the ankle first of all and then when I was running at pace I tried to turn and went over on it.

ā€œItā€™s been frustrating but thatā€™s what happens in football and you have to get on with it. Iā€™m confident I can come back stronger from this.

ā€œI should be fit and available for the QPR game but of course whether I play any part in that game is down to the coach and how I get on in the training sessions next week.

ā€œIā€™ve only played about 50 minutes in total but my initial impression about the Premier League is that there is much more tempo to the games here compared to Germany.

ā€œThe Bundesliga is more relaxed about how you play the game with more passing. English football is more about pressing from the start and that high tempo is the big difference.ā€

Both of Canā€™s outings have been on the Redsā€™ travels and heā€™s relishing the prospect of finally gracing Anfield, especially with Real Madrid the next visitors a week on Wednesday.

ā€œIā€™ve been in the stands watching on and the atmosphere for matches at Anfield has been outstanding,ā€ he said.

ā€œIā€™m really looking forward to playing in front of the home fans. Thereā€™s a huge game against Real Madrid coming up and I hope to be involved in that.ā€

With Canā€™s return set to coincide with comebacks for Daniel Sturridge and Joe Allen, the German midfielder believes Rodgersā€™ men will raise the bar after a disappointing start to the campaign.

ā€œThe team has had a lot of problems with injuries and that has certainly affected things,ā€ he added.

ā€œWe havenā€™t been able to get up to speed as a team as quickly as we would have liked.

ā€œBut I see us as being much stronger after the international break and I believe we will get back up there among the top teams.

ā€œI have settled well in this city and my team-mates have helped me a lot in that respect. Now I want to show what I can do.ā€

I'm pretty sure new Liverpool players are indoctrinated when they sign and those type of responses become automated.

Really excited about Can! He has so much power and drive, which are two qualities our engine room seems to lack at the moment. Hendo brings great energy, but Emre has the strength to boss the middle of the pitch!!

      He was unstoppable for Germany.
Pity they kept playing him in a game they were walking.

Completely agree mate, looking forward to seeing him play.

Remember him bossing City in pre-season, would have had a good assist for Sterling too if the linesman could do his job properly.

Where would you see Emre play as a starter Harry; instead of Jordan; alongside him in a diamond or somewhere else?

Play him as DM, which would allow Stevie to play as an impact AM sub.

Interesting 'take' heimdall. I can see where you're coming from but I wouldn't be holding my hand on my ass when waiting for it to happen. I just can't see him as a starter instead of Stevie... eventually maybe but not now, or this season.
