I'm not a big fan of Bony, but I've admittedly only seen him play a handful of times.  I don't think he really fits into the "fluid front 3" that BR likes to deploy, but if BR rates him and wants him to fill the void created by Suarez leaving then I'm all for it.

Of course he doesn't fit into that fluid front three system. Look at how he scores his goals. He is fed them with the majority coming from crosses.

Same here. Can't say I'm a "Bony specialist" ;D but from what I've seen, this move does not excite me too much either.
He's a good player, just don't think he's the best option out there. But if BR does indeed want him, then I'm all for it.

If we do move for Bony, then perhaps it is an indication that BR is moving away from the fluid front 3 and reverting to his preferred formation and tactical style from his Swansea days with a big target style finisher up front being flanked by 2 very pacey wingers who can stretch the field and threaten in behind.  The addition of Lambert also seems to fit with this model.  This would theoretically make Sterling, Sturridge, and Markovic our pacey wingers, while the likes of Can, and Lallana would be competing with Hendo and Allen for the box-to-box roles in our midfield 3.  I'm assuming that Stevie's spot as the midfield anchor is secure.

From the reports of Sunderland putting an £8 million bid in for Borini I'm hoping beyond hope that all this will be is a replacement for a back up striker and that we are still to pursue a more experienced player or two. It would certainly make more sense than suggesting, as has been done, that Bony is a replacement for Suarez; and I'd be O.K. with that because I believe Bony to be better than Borini.

I am a fan of this move and a big fan of Bony and think he can offer a lot to the side. The real fear I do have of him is that if he does come he will likely be pinned as the replacement for Luis which would put a lot of pressure on him to produce goals though I do see him a player who will be coming in and out of the starting line-up depending on who we are playing and how BR wants to see up (I think Sturridge will be always be in the starting XI up top)

I do think having Bony/Lambert instead of Aspas/Borini will offer a lot more in depth up top.

After signing Lambert signing Bony doesn't make sense to me. Not the mould of player we need, in my opinion.

I think Brendan is one to figure out how to go around an issue vs. slamming said head against the wall to try and fix something that can't be fixed.

Pretty sure BR knew the eventuality of this was coming at some point and will of thought a way around it.

You can't replace Suarez, so you find another way to accomplish the task at hand.

Compared to? We played with 2 up front last season too some games, don't like Bony with Sturridge up front then either. Can't see those 2 make a great partnership regardless of tactics. Bony is a limited striker. Doesn't make much sense actually considering what Brendan's preferences tend to be.

Maybe we are getting rid of Borini & Aspas and Bony backs up studge with another "big name" coming in?

      Who knows.

Couldn't care less about this one. I struggle to see anything that he will offer to us and I actually think he's a bang average player.

I agree with you.  I don't think he makes much sense either, but if BR wants him then I have to imagine that it means we will be shifting our tactical approach to accommodate players like Lambert & Bony.  Personally, I think Rodrigo from Benfica would be the ideal CF/ST target after losing Suarez.  He can play in a fluid front 3, or as part of a strike duo with Studge/Lambert.

Bony is better than Borini. So, improved the team; right there.

The problem is that you can't just stick a square peg into a round hole.  The player has to fit into the tactical framework of the team in order to flourish as an individual.

I hope you're right mate, I really really hope you're right, because we have severely weakened the first team and badly need to strengthen, not just squad players or potential.

Agreed. We obviously have the money now and should be looking to the likes of Cavani for example. Big fan of his, dont know if he's available or not but Bony for 20+...no thank you. Like the moves so far to strengthen our depth but now our 1st team needs reinforcement

I know, I thought that then thought well, he must fit into what style of football we're going to be seeing next season.
He's a useful player and a better option than Borini, I'd feel underwhelmed seeing Borini come off the bench when we need a result or to hang on to the lead.
He's not a big name signing in some eyes and I can understand, maybe I should be thinking- oh hey! Hang on is this supposed to be replacing what Suarez gave us? ... I'm just being realistic and can see what he's offer us, like a Drogba type player, may shine in tight European games when Sturridge is a marked man and getting bullied.

The team seems to be fleshing out quite nicely, We won't be bullied by teams with no skill and dirty tactics.

He was one of the best players in the league last season, even if some may have not realised that.

Be honest with you I don't see our team as severely weakened.

We have lost Luis you are correct, but in my mind when he was out last season for 8 games we played pretty damn well.

When he was out for the evra thing we played pretty damn well.

Now consider who we played in the starting 11 the first 8 games last year.

We played Hendo on the wing and other players out of position because we had nothing and no one else to go to.

Now consider the maturity of Sterling, add in Lallana, Can, Markovic and Lambert and now it looks to be Bony

The top of our pyramid got shaved off with Luis leaving, I think our foundation is a damn sight stronger and deeper than going into last season.

I seriously hope you're right mate. But I cant see a 19mil striker as a backup. May be we could get rid of Borini for Remy and then we sign that 'big name', whoever that is

can't disagree but we have just taken out 30 plus goals, penalties and assists its one huge void to fill.I think Brendan's idea is not to replace him( because you can't do that ) but to improve the team overall and play a different style.

I know Walt, for the most part I am a glass half-full kinda person who has a lot of faith in our gaffer so I tend to take the same view as you do and realize that Brendan has known this is coming and the LFC playstyle will of been adjusted somewhat.

I am very excited about the future and the upcoming season.

Had we lost Brendan to Barca then I would be acting like Coutinho Red right about now.
