He's not the first and he won't be the last. How come a defender can be a rock for his club but then as soon as they sign for us they go to pot? I'm not saying I'm not happy with his signing, just the fact that he isn't looking as defensively strong at the moment as he was at Saints.

It's because he has no confidence with defenders around him, also his GK, who is a complete nightmare to be honest. Against West Ham he showed some nice challenges and played higher up the pitch because he could win balls in the air and puts in interceptions. Any good defender can look bad if you put poor defenders next to him, didn't that happen to Sami Hyypia when he had to play with Igor Biscan or Djimi Traore?

Looking more and more like he was sell shielded by Schneiderlin and Wanyama last season.

Absolutely awful positioning. Worse than schoolboy stuff. That's your centre half with 6 players behind him.

That's one of the issues with Lovren he is very keen to play a high line and very rash sometimes in pushing out, he has to be aware that with Skrtel and Johnson they will always drop back. Noticed so many times yesterday when he was almost in midfield with the Skrtel playing deep and it left a load of space to be exploited.

The combination of Skrtel and Lovren IMO is doomed to failure because they are polar opposites.

Unfortunately mate this one was bought to be the leader at the back and ousted £18m potential (Sakho) out of the team.

Racer may well be right in highlighting that Shneiderlin and Wanyama could have shielded him last season because those that have watched him elsewhere say that his Saints form was the exception rather than the rule to how he's played for other clubs.

Truth is though, Skrtel/Agger/Sakho/Lovren/Toure/Carra/Coates are all international level defenders and no matter what combination we try under Brendan we look a bloody shambles.

Can I ask you a genuine question though Luke?

Why do you think that is? And what would you suggest he do about it?

I have my ideas on why but I don't see him essentially doing anything about it as that's not the type of coach he is.. I think we have to accept it under Brendan.

Another question is what type of football do we prefer, again I have my own thoughts I that. I personally accept the gaffers approach even if it's not my prefered way.

      Of course mate.

I would suggest he brings in a defensive coach to coach the team for set-pieces alone. To highlight how good a team can be with average players look no further than Stoke. You don't need to be lumping the ball in the fashion of Stoke to adopt Stoke like tactics at set-pieces and we fail consistently on them.

I think he's too proud to do that and is convinced the problem is down to individual errors hence why he continually changes personnel. I was happy he was bringing in another CB this window gone because I was hoping it was just personnel, but it's gone that stage too far for me now I believe the problem is much deeper.

In general play I'd be looking to bring in a proper defensive midfielder. Someone like Khedira or one of the Benders, I think we are exposed in the middle far too often and that isn't purely the fault of the CB's or coaching it is that we simply don't have the legs there now.

What type of football do I prefer, one far removed from what we've been playing this season mate. I've never liked isolating a striker in the fashion we have, our passing has gone to sh*te and our high press has dissolved into a shadow of what it was. My preference is for a high press, high energy game with the ball very rarely passed through the air and I believe Brendan is the right man to implement that style of play but for whatever reason he is clearly failing at the moment. Transition/settling/losing the best player in the world and not replacing him correctly/loss of belief could be many reasons but we look a shadow of ourselves.
