Brendan was made up with him Brian, had a genuine look of admiration in his eyes when the lad was subbed late on and he gave him the ''good job lad'' hug.

Aha it was intimate to say the least.

Heard Rodgers was shouting instructions in Spanish to him.

Only thing that looked below par was his sliding challenges when I didn't think he had to do it. Bit rash but understandable.

Looked very solid. Couple of his crosses were delicious.

Looked an excellent young player. Mind you a slight note of caution, I remember being quite impressed by Josemi after one game too.

Those balls were reminiscent of the master of the long cross Xabi Alonso.

Off topic for a second but the talk/ rumour/ tittle tattle about Xabi's return is F***ing deafening.

Remember Sakho did the same thing in his first few games last season. Little bit of nerves and trying not to mess up I think, end up overcompensating with the slide.

Think he'll do well here, hopefully we've signed a gem.

Only been in the country for a week; new team mates; new manager & tactics; new language and playing a renowned team in front of a pact Anfield - a truly outstanding debut. What a brilliant leftfield find.

On this basis £5M will be an absolute bargain but a concern remains regarding Atletico's clauses. What if he carries on in this vein of form with us further aiding his development only for Atleti to exercise their option and recall him for next season? I hope that we were able to include some kind of protection!

Made up with his performance. Could turn out to be quite an exciting signing.

Glen J better watch his back because as soon as Flanno gets back from injury, Glen will be finding himself sitting on the pine.

Standing ovation for Javier thoroughly deserved.

Agree completely. For a lad of only 20 he was very composed on the ball and his decisions and challenges were excellent. I understand it was only a pre season game but it was no mistake that Dortmund continually attacked our left side, they were having much more luck against Johnson.

The league will be altogether different challenge for the lad, and at his age I would expect a few mistakes and bad days along the way. So long as he learns from them and shows the character and strength to put them aside and put in more performances like yesterday then he'll be quite the player.

Agree Si. It's a great start for the lad and hopefully he'll be able to perform at that level everytime he gets the chance. Just hope we don't put too much pressure on him as like you said, he's only 20 but I'm sure Brendan will manage him properly.

Personally, I'm just made up that we have an exciting option to use at RB because I was getting to the end of my tether with both Glen and Martin Kelly.

Steve Nicol says he cannot understand why Liverpool have signed youngster Javier Manquillo from Atletico Madrid.

Manquillo, 20, has moved to Anfield on a two-year loan deal after just six La Liga appearances for the Spanish champions.

Let's hope he is wrong eh

Have the greatest of respect for Steve Nicol but am delighted to say it does indeed look as tho' he was talking out of his arse.
