It's an open question to everyone Billy. If you have the hump over not being able to get the jist of it and are looking for an arguement then piss off elsewhere it's not about that.

Well the gist of your open question seems to suggest to me at least, that you in some way look down on those who cannot get to the game week in week out for whatever reasons. You come across as someone who thinks anyone who can go regularly is somehow a superior supporter or better in some way to those supporters that cannot go regularly. To me those that go regularly are just lucky enough to be in those circumstances that allow them to go week in week out. I'm chuffed for them; lucky gits!

Likewise, your 'internet fans' pitch might just be a term to describe fans that don't go to the game (I've not heard it before), but it too comes across feeling like a thinly veiled derogatory attack on those who can't get to the ground (notice I did not say don't go or won't go to the ground but can't go to the ground), and more so because of the 'thousands of posts' line. Only you know. If there is another gist to your post though, and I and one other poster at least seem to have overlooked it, then perhaps you'd be better off coming out and clarifying it. Otherwise, all the above and coupled with your 'piss off' remark does make you look like you are spoiling for a fight and that you view 'out of towners' as somehow a lesser supporter.

For the record, I'm 46 years old, and supported them for 37 years (ironically, right after the munts beat us 2-1 in the 77' cup final). I have been once to the ground (we drew 2-2 with Birmingham), but I live too far away and can't get tickets to go week in week out (and hard enough getting tickets when they play in and around the Cardiff area). Add to that my entire family are crazy about Liverpool FC so there's no way just one of us can go; we all have to go, and that costs serious money. At least where I live.

I can assure you that I love this club as much as anyone posting here or living right outside the ground might do. I'm on cloud 0 when we win and I'm shattered when we lose. Distance doesn't diminish my passion for the club; why would it or how could it? Those that can't get to the matches as regularly as those that can are no better or worse supporters, they just happen to be living in the right Post Code or have the right income to do so.

      YNWA

EDIT: I really don't want to get into a slanging match with my fellow supporters, not on the first game of the season or at any other time. I'm just saying it can get a bit nasty here when this subject is brought up. Let's just accept that LFC is a global entity not owned by anyone but the fans; regardless of who they are or where they come from!

The last time I was at Anfield was 1990 and I still have the programmes so according to you I cannot be a Liverpool supporter. This attitude pisses me off as I have supported the Reds since 1947 when my Dad put me in the Boys Pen when it was in Kemlyn  Road. I have 3 grandsons who have never been to England never mind Liverpool and they are staunch L.F.C. supporters does that make them any less a supporter than you. I have seen so many highs and lows at Anfield and I have never wavered in my support of Liverpool Football Club. I  hope you can see through all this crap and recognise that out of towners  have the right to be supporters of our club.

Totally agree. I live in Malta and been only once as I said earlier. I love liverpool like it was my birthplace.

different era now than when I started because then if you didn't go the game you didn't comment on the team. But its so different now because its 24/7 now and its so difficult to get a ticket even if you live around the corner from the ground. Billy could argue he has seen more than most and in a life things change you may move away or finances can keep you from going but the passion remains the same wherever you live. that's what unites us PASSION for the club.

The bigger the club is the more world wide, country wide support it gains, there is nothing wrong with that, we should be proud of our support and the far reaching nature of it.
I know this is a seperate point but I get the frustration of fans in regards the tickets, the latest and recent years of membership levels is a discrace, loyalty isn't rewarded, it's all about money in modern football and getting the same fans coming every game every year doesn't generate sales on match days through the club shop etc.

Myself? I'm 35, my grandad who was from the Wirral got me into it as soon as I could talk, took me to my first game, I've been going ever since, I've witnessed highs and lows that only football can give you and we are lucky that we fell for Liverpool because it's more than simply a football club. I have a huge amount of respect for fans from abroad, some of them have to go through an ordeal to even watch the games at odd times let alone try to get to the stadium, that's why I gave Diego my cup final ticket against Cardiff, I've been to plenty of finals and for someone to possibly only ever have the chance to experience one I couldn't not try to help him, Diego is one I have an immense amount of respect for, he knows the game inside out as well as the club, he would probably never got the chance to see us in a final and I'm glad I helped him see us in one.
It's not about out of town for me, as I've said the club is more than that for me, growing up going to games, home and abroad I've been helped out by reds, we are all one in my book, yes crossed words may be had, differences of opinion, but ultimately we all share a passion for the red men, no matter if you are born on the doorstep or fall in love from a distance.

I was born into it, I've followed the club every day for 30 years or so now.. Here's to the next 50 ( fingers crossed)

I'm in the LC today, let's hope the reds deliver an opening day 3 points

I am 19 and I am from Estonia. Started following Liverpool in 2009 when I happened to saw a Liverpool game against Chelsea. It was a Champions League game at Stamford Bridge and the result was a 4-4 draw. After that game the Liverpool (and football) virus hit me. I have been at Anfield only 2 times because travelling to England is quite expensive and I can´t afford it every year. I was there in 2012 when I watched from the KOP how we got beaten by Swansea in the Carling Cup 1-3 and few days later saw a fantastic goal from Luis Suarez in a 1-1 draw against Newcastle from the Annie road stand. As I am going to the University now then all my money goes to there and probably wont be able to visit Liverpool for some time but I´m sure that sooner or later I will go back. Until then I have to watch LFC only from TV :scarf:

      22 and been a fan since I was like 7 or 8.

First game was the pre season match last season when me and two mates drove from Sydney to Melbourne to watch the game.

Got to go to Anfield for the first time last season too against Palace at home - the 3-1 win where Suarez returned from his ban at Anfield.

I'd much rather travel hours to get to games across England and Europe than having to stay up from any time between 9pm until 7am to watch games though :D

Yes, it is! However, what is different in Malta is that we see Manure as the most hated club rather than the Blueshit.

I'm 24 living in Ireland. My Dad grew up in Seaforth and obviously that had a big impact on who I would grow up to support. Some would say that my Dad would force me to support Liverpool, but the way I look at it, I was born in to a family; our one big Liverpool family.

I can remember watching from a young age, but getting really in to watching the games since I was about 9.

My first game at Anfield was Feb 2006 against Man City, when believe it or not Harry Kewell of all people scored the only goal of the game.
I've been to a few more since then. Have seen us play Spurs on the last day of the 08/09 season (3-1), which also was our Sami's last game which had the best athmosphere post match in my opinion of all the games I've been to. I also went to the game against United when Vidic was sent off (obviously) as was Mascherano in Oct 09. We won that game 2-0 with Torres and Ngog scoring.
I've seen us in the Europa League also against Anzhi in 2012 and we won 1-0 with Downing scoring the goal there. The last game I've actually been at Anfield for was against Hull last season and we won 2-0 with Agger and Suarez scoring.

I'm hoping to get over for a few this season... Villa and Arsenal are the one's I think I've got tickets for according to the aul lad. Might get a chance at one of the CL group games also.

I do as much as I can to get to games but as previously stated it's extremely hard to get your hands on tickets these days unless you know someone who will not use their ST/Member Card for every game or unless you go ahead and purchase them with a members card at the start of the season or near Christmas for the rest which isn't financially viable for some. If I don't get to attend the game, I will do my utmost to watch it, whether it be in a pub or watching online through a shaky stream or even listening to audio on Radio 5 Live.

Actually some of my fondest memories will be of last season, I was in Liverpol when we were playing City at Anfield and watched it in town. The atmosphere in and around the city was incredible from before the match til late in the evening. As well as that I was in Liverpool for the last game of the season too and watched that in the Arkles. But it felt like being in the ground anyway, the atmosphere in there was fantastic and would definitely do that again for games I couldn't get tickets too.

Have got to get ready for work, but I might take my lunch strategically so that I catch the second half of the game today.
With that being said, it doesn't matter where you watch the games, how many games you get to attend or even if you can't physically get to watch the game. At the end of the day we are all part of one big family and we shouldn't be categorising any group of supporters as OOT's or what not as we all love the same thing, our one and only football club.

30 years supporting us this season. As my username suggests I'm not local, so getting to home games every week is impossible, and I've only ever been to one away game. My last visit was at home to QPR in the last league game two seasons ago. Getting a ticket was a nailbiting experience but I got there in the end, and we've won on every occasion I've been there, bar one blip in the 80's.

The 30th anniversary of my first home game is later this season, and as it falls on the weekend of a home game, I hope to be there to mark it. I will post up a detailed thread here of the games I've attended over the years, at the time.

I first went to Anfield in 1968, rarely missed a home game and went to most of the local away games for the next few years. Towards the end of the '70's other commitments meant that I gradually stopped travelling to away games and by the early 80's marriage and kids meant I rarely managed to get to Anfield either.

My son goes quite often now ,more away games than home games strangely, but health problems mean I don't accompany him as I would have liked.

I'm 21 and have been supporting the Reds since I was 7 or 8.

My Dad has always supported our local club, Falkirk, but it was my friend's Dad's love for the Reds that was totally infectious to me and completely sucked me in to the LFC family.

Dad took a small interest in football, watching games on TV, but never becoming involved passionately with anything going on. He even used to take me along to watch Falkirk during their home games, but we sat in silence and there was never really any connection to the team as I was always on my phone updating myself with the Liverpool score.

As I said, my friend's Dad on the other hand would watch Liverpool on the TV, go to the occasional match at Anfield and was always banging on about transfer stories and memories of previous triumphs. The passion involved in his support for the team was phenomenal, infectious, brilliant... He would shout, he would cheer and he would mourn as if Liverpool were in some way his family. It was only in the years to follow when I too developed these feelings for the club that I realised, it appeared that way because Liverpool WERE his family, and he loved them unconditionally. It was this guy who got me hooked on the IDEA of supporting Liverpool, from there, the club, the fans, the players and the legacy were what sealed the deal and won my heart.

My first trip to watch Liverpool play in the flesh was on August 2nd, 2008 at Ibrox stadium. Rangers vs Liverpool and I was lucky enough to get tickets for the Liverpool end. I'll never forget that first feeling of mixing with my fellow LFC supporters - even if the guys behind us WERE talking about putting bricks through Jermaine Pennant's windows... but, I digress :D - and having the privilege of singing YNWA. A 4-0 win and seeing my favourite player at the time, Judas Torres ( :P ), score made for a perfect day.

My first (and thus far only) experience at Anfield was on the 14th January 2012 vs Stoke City. I was lucky enough to get a ticket through the local supporter's club. I made a day of it, making a point of visiting the Hillsborough Justice Shop, making a few purchases and seeing all the artwork and memorabilia on display, before heading to a boozer to soak up the atmosphere pre-game. Unfortunately the match ended 0-0 and I was sat in the very far end of the Centenary Stand (as close to the Annie Road end as I could possibly have gotten) but my word did I enjoy myself! :D

Since beginning to support the Reds I have also infected my Mum with the LFC bug! She sometimes shouts louder than me at the telly! :D I plan to keep alive the spirit of LFC through any children I may have! :D Also: Here's a picture of me on the Anfield Stadium tour back in 2010 with Ol' Big Ears!

35 here, went to my first game at Anfield v Oxford in '87 sat with my dad on Kemlyn end. It was our first home game of season even though it was a few games in, due to broken sewer pipe (or something along those lines) under the old standing Kop.

I'd say I get to around 8-10 games a season on average, one big sticking point for me is a weekend in general due to work commitments it's a no go sadly. I'm a regular at European games so only managed 5 games last year, but hopefully this year will make up for that.

Billy just beat me to it. My first game was Liverpool v Stoke City, (we won 4-2) in 1949. Stood on the Kop every week from when i came out of National Service in 1959,  until it was pulled down to make the new stand.

Whether you are fan who goes to the match every week or whether you watch it on t.v. or the net, you are one of our special  family of Liverpool supporters, and you all should thank your lucky stars that you are.

Haha might be a while before we see another Scottish player at the club. Unfortunately the days of Hansen, Souness and Dalglish are a distant memory; now we have Gary Caldwell, Scott Brown and Steven Fletcher as the spine of our national team  :-[

43; first recollection of supporting LFC was about 1975; uncle introduced me properly by taking me for my first time to Anny in 1978 v's Citeh; first final was the Charity Shield 1979 v's Arses.

Reciprocated what my uncle did for me by driving to Cardiff to pick up my 8 yr old nephew and taking him up to Anny for the Arses match in 2008 to further cement his loyalty before his old man from Southampton could poison him!

My only time as a regular was when I had the PT membership for 3 season and went to nearly all of the home matches. Did the whole CL run in 2005 which for me personally the Juve game was just spine tingling and I'll never ever forget it.

So, I'm very much of the Paisley generation. A manager in my opinion who will never be surpassed.

I was a fairly regular attender in the Paisley, first Dalglish era. The financially dominated premier league era was a turn off for me. I don't like what modern football has become but love of Liverpool FC and grass roots football keeps me interested.
