Tighten up the midfield, make it watertight. Stick to Silva and Yaya like a leech and don't give them even half a yard of space and we should at least come away with a draw. Did we drew or lost there last season? Lazy to check the results.

We lost. It was at Christmas and we lost to city and chelsea away consecutively. I think. Played well at City though. Took the lead in both games too I think.

Yep. A great performance against City that was truly undermined by an incompetent ref. Still fucks me off thinking about it today.

Wouldn't throw Moreno in just yet.

Moreno, an injured Flanno or Zaf Iqbal to play just so long as Johnson doesn't.

Have a horrible feeling Rodgers will go for Johnson at RB because for some reason he seems to never drop Johnson. Would be harsh on Manquillo that too IMO.

Back four of Manquillo, Sakho, Lovren and Moreno.

I don't know why so many people are suggesting this.

Could he do anymore harm to the team than GJ right now?

I agree with you mate. I honestly think Johnson is that player right now that the team would rather not pass too, if you have played competitive football or not, you always recognize a weak link and rather they didn't have the ball, GJ is that player.

Moreno can come in and give us pace and defensive stability, Moreno IN Johnson OUT.

Don't htink he should be giving such "advice" given that City usually crash out in the group stages.

It could be that he does the job the gaffer tells him to do....

I personally find it hard to believe that we could win 13 of our last 15 league games if Johnson was half as bad as what everyone seems to think he is, but what do I know?

Only won them because we blew them out the water with SAS and our attacking members of the midfield.

More of a case of winning those games despite Johnson playing, then winning those games due to Johnson's excellent performances

I never said he was excellent, but I think if he was actually as bad as some on here suggest then the boss would drop him. It's not like we don't have anyone else who can fill in at RB/LB

The signings of Moreno and Manquillo seem to suggest that BR has identified the fullback position as a weakness in the team, but I still don't think that glen has been as poor as some on here keep repeatedly suggesting.

Fair enough, but I do think Johnson was a big part of our poor defensive record last season. Always out of position, too lazy to track back and not winning key headers when he should have.

As for the match, I'd gladly take a 0-0 draw. Feel it'll be a tough game with so many new players still awaiting debuts. I expect it'll be the same team as before, just with Allen/Can over Lucas.

On the face of it, away to shitty, draw would not be a bad result. Win would be excellent, loss would be a setback (though not a huge one, cause its so early, neither side has any real momentum yet).
Will be most interested to see if he plays Coutinho - didn't have great day out last Sun. Starting him would say BR is going for it - not starting him is us more in containment mode. BR usually errs on the positive side, so reckon he'll start him - but will be close call.
Bloody pity Lallana or Lazar are not available, even as subs.

Thought he was? Rodgers said if he didn't make the Saints game then he would make the next game. Or has this changed?

Lazar should be fit, Rodgers come out saying he'd be available for the City game. (I 75% am sure that is true)

Not an entirely logical way to look at it but, Coutinho has performed to a relatively decent standard in our last two league encounters vs City. Sure, his performance was well below par on Sunday but if we're to resign him to the bench solely for that reason, then we ought to drop many others too. He needs that continuity on the field, and I trust that Rodgers will play him come Monday.

      Lucas on the other hand...

I'd hate to see Manquillo dropped in this game. It's irrelevant how long he's been at the club, for me he's already been 100 times better than Johnson has for us over the past 2-3 seasons.

I'd like to see Manquillo Skrtel Lovren Moreno?

I question Moreno because it will depend on how much Moreno has impressed in training and what his match fitness situation is. Obviously we won't know that but Brendan will. Let's hope it is good because I don't think I can cope with Johnson in the back four again.

Huge game to expect Moreno to come straight in.
Could make or break him very early in his LFC career.

      I would go with a 4-1-2-2-1 / 4-3-3

      GK:Mig
      RB: Manquillo
LB: Enrique (if fit...if not flanno...if not fit, Moreno....if not ready, begrudgingly, Johnson)
      CB: Lovren
      CB: Sakho
      DM: Gerrard
      CM: Henderson
      CM: Can
      AM: Sterling
      AM: Coutinho
      ST: Sturridge

      Subs:
      Jones
Which ever FB was closest to being picked
      Skrtel
      Allen
      Lucas
      Markovic
