      13/14 vs 14/15
      Aug 18, 2014 10:20:11 pm
Continuing from last seasons thread - http://www.lfcreds.com/reds/index.php/topic,45373.0.html

Purpose is to compare like for like results. For example, last season we lost to Southampton at home whereas this season we beat them at home. Therefore, the table would be as stated below

      13/14  Liverpool 0 - 1 Southampton

      P.1  W.0  D.0  L.1  GF.0  GA.1  PTS.0

      14/15 - Liverpool 2-1 Southampton

      P.1  W.1  D.0  L.0  GF.2  GA.1  PTS.3

      +3pts - Progress :scarf:

Next up - shitty city. A win will see us 6pts better off than last season in comparable fixtures.

The first four games of the season are games in which we strugged in the corresponding fixtures last season.

      Southampton (H) - 0 points

      Manchester City (A) - 0 points

      Tottenham (A) 3 points

      Aston Villa (H) 1 point

We only got 4 points out of those 4 games last season, and we came 2nd. I'd expect us to get at least 7-8 points from those four games. We're already 3 points up from last season.

Still 3 points better off than we were in last season's corresponding fixtures.
Big test on that coming up against the much improved Spurs.

I don't think Spurs is a must win game, but Villa may well be even so early in the season.

I think we have been a little unfortunate this season with the fixtures, hopefully we won't pay too high a price for it. I am confident that once our new players are bedded in and the balance of the team corrected we will again start to put teams to the sword, in the meantime victory rather than performance is key.

If we go by Rodgers maxim of 10pts every 5 games, Spurs is a mustn't lose game.

Win against Spurs see's us move up to 6pts from Southampton, City and of course the Spuds.

      +3

Next up - Aston Villa (h). We drew this fixture last season so a win in a fortnight would see us improve to +5

Out of a possible 15 from 5, I think we are setting our standards a bit low. I think we should be aiming to get at least 12 from 15.
That totals approx 86 points. Is that enough to win the prem you think ?

It's a minimum that virtually guarantees champions league, not saying I don't want more though.

So 1pt lost to Villa and 3 to WHU. However no change against the Spuds or Mancs, but 3 gained against Southampton. Therefore we are at a deficit of -1pts compared to corresponding fixtures of last season.

12 points from 5 games is 2.4 points per game.

Over the course of a season that works out just over 91 points.

2-2.2 points per game (10-11 points per 5 games) is a good yardstick of top four.  Anything higher and you've got a great chance of winning the league.

Another 2 dropped against the bitters, so 3 points worse than last season now !

Next up QPR away. Who were they most comparable to last season? Fulham? We beat the cottagers 3-2 last season at their ground so here is to another three points. Qpr are by far the worse team in the league at this present time.

Well having watched the game, I think that awful reputation goes to us at the moment. Ironically we won 3 - 2 as against Fulham last year so perhaps all is not lost.

And yet currently we sit level on points with 4th.
      Odd that.

West Ham being 4th though is a crime against Football. We got to do something about that :P

If you took Southampton and West Ham out of the equation,
we're currently 3rd in order of teams you'd expect to challenge.

Given how we've played, I'd take that in a heartbeat.
