      13/14 vs 14/15
      Aug 18, 2014 10:20:11 pm
Continuing from last seasons thread - http://www.lfcreds.com/reds/index.php/topic,45373.0.html

Purpose is to compare like for like results. For example, last season we lost to Southampton at home whereas this season we beat them at home. Therefore, the table would be as stated below

      13/14  Liverpool 0 - 1 Southampton

      P.1  W.0  D.0  L.1  GF.0  GA.1  PTS.0

      14/15 - Liverpool 2-1 Southampton

      P.1  W.1  D.0  L.0  GF.2  GA.1  PTS.3

      +3pts - Progress :scarf:

Next up - shitty city. A win will see us 6pts better off than last season in comparable fixtures.

The first four games of the season are games in which we strugged in the corresponding fixtures last season.

      Southampton (H) - 0 points

      Manchester City (A) - 0 points

      Tottenham (A) 3 points

      Aston Villa (H) 1 point

We only got 4 points out of those 4 games last season, and we came 2nd. I'd expect us to get at least 7-8 points from those four games. We're already 3 points up from last season.

Still 3 points better off than we were in last season's corresponding fixtures.
Big test on that coming up against the much improved Spurs.

I don't think Spurs is a must win game, but Villa may well be even so early in the season.

I think we have been a little unfortunate this season with the fixtures, hopefully we won't pay too high a price for it. I am confident that once our new players are bedded in and the balance of the team corrected we will again start to put teams to the sword, in the meantime victory rather than performance is key.

If we go by Rodgers maxim of 10pts every 5 games, Spurs is a mustn't lose game.

Win against Spurs see's us move up to 6pts from Southampton, City and of course the Spuds.

      +3

Next up - Aston Villa (h). We drew this fixture last season so a win in a fortnight would see us improve to +5

Out of a possible 15 from 5, I think we are setting our standards a bit low. I think we should be aiming to get at least 12 from 15.
That totals approx 86 points. Is that enough to win the prem you think ?

So 1pt lost to Villa and 3 to WHU. However no change against the Spuds or Mancs, but 3 gained against Southampton. Therefore we are at a deficit of -1pts compared to corresponding fixtures of last season.

12 points from 5 games is 2.4 points per game.

Over the course of a season that works out just over 91 points.

2-2.2 points per game (10-11 points per 5 games) is a good yardstick of top four.  Anything higher and you've got a great chance of winning the league.

Next up QPR away. Who were they most comparable to last season? Fulham? We beat the cottagers 3-2 last season at their ground so here is to another three points. Qpr are by far the worse team in the league at this present time.

Well having watched the game, I think that awful reputation goes to us at the moment. Ironically we won 3 - 2 as against Fulham last year so perhaps all is not lost.

If you took Southampton and West Ham out of the equation,
we're currently 3rd in order of teams you'd expect to challenge.

Given how we've played, I'd take that in a heartbeat.

Southampton could be a surprise package this season Racer.  Everyone expected them to be relegation candidates after their 1st team was gutted in the summer and losing Poch but they're holding their own so far and playing well.  You could say they'll start to drop down the table sooner rather than later but then a lot of people said that about us last season until we started our winning run in February.

The only team that had an easier first 8 games to the season than Southampton were United.

Suarez carried us last season. I don't think Southampton have anyone near that ability to carry a team single handedly.

I'm just praying we can keep scraping results until January, we have to give Borini and possibly Lambert a try though, they can't be that much worse than Balotelli at the moment.

      Interesting.

No difference vs chelsea and one point lost against the barcodes.

That'd make it minus four. Win against qpr keeps us there, but then 2 points dropped against hull brings us down to minus six.

Minus 5 now after loss to Palace. Stoke next. Anything less than a win will see us drop to minus 7 or 8 depending on whether it's a draw or loss.

Minus 7 now. We beat Sunderland in this fixture last season.

Prior to games we managed to match in terms of points.

Next up the mancs, then Arsenal, then Burnley, and then Swansea at home. Last season in comparable fixtures we got the full 12 points.

Not stats related but thought this was the best place to put it

I was watching football gold yesterday morning, our 5 nil away at spurs last year. The difference from how we played then to now is standout, its baffling. Pass and move at pace that's all it was, it wasn't anything mad scientific simple pass and move. Granted Suarez was the focal point but aside from him only Flannagan and Sakho were missing from that team to the 11 were putting out most weeks. Mignolet Johnson Skrtel Hendo Allen Sterling Coutinho and Lucas all played that day and are all there now.

So why the fook are we not capable of the same pass and move 12 months later? Even taking the obvious omission of Suarez theres no reason the same fellas can have gone so far back so soon.

1 thing not mentioned so Ill say it now....weak mindedness. They have obviously let results get to them. It happens players but it shouldn't happen players at Liverpool and a team that should have won the league last year. Inexcusable and unforgiveable

We don't get at least 3 wins during December, and we could be less a manager.   :couch:

we should have this thread comparing the 12/13 to 14/15 as I bet is it almost identical, comparing to last season now is going to look awful.

We have scored 7 goals in 8 games at home this season.

      7 in 8.
