Liverpool JUMP queue to tempt ex-Barcelona goalkeeper to Anfield
LIVERPOOL have lined up a move for former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes to leave Simon Mignolet fighting for his Anfield future.

Valdes is recovering from a cruciate knee injury that saw him end his trophy-laden spell at the Nou Camp on the sidelines.

He is not is expected to be fit until November, but Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is prepared to wait and put Valdes, 32, through a stringent medical.

Valdes can sign outside the transfer window because he is a free agent and would place enormous pressure on Mignolet, whose form has been inconsistent.

Normally I'd say this was bullshit but Paul Joyce is usually a reliable journalist, even if he does work for the Express.

I don't rate Valdes anywhere near as much as many others do.

If we sign him I see Simon easily keeping his place.

Very interesting development.  I don't know much about Valdes but what I do read is positive.  What does everyone else think ?

Does pull off some phenomenal saves and I'd say on top form he's ahead of Mignolet so it makes some kind of sense, but he wouldn't be coming here on top form.

The part I don't like is that I believe Reina is better than both of them and Valdes would want wages comparable to Reina. Perhaps now that the window is closing his demands would drop as there aren't many takers, but that is also understandable given the injury he's coming back from. Aging keeper with that kind of injury would be a risk.

Worth the risk, yes I think so.

To me an upgrade on Jones but not really someone who will put too much pressure on Mignolet's position. I will feel more confident with him on our bench, but I don't think he will get many games (maybe the cups).

I think Mignolet will be happy enough if we sign Valdes.

Completely disagree with you there Valdes if he can get back to fitness is a top class keeper, definite improvement on Migs

It's all about opinions mate, don't let the fact that yours is wrong put you off expressing it. :)

Only joking mate, but I think if we wanted to put real pressure on Mignolet there are a lot better keepers out there.

Valdes will never be better than Mignolet anymore, he's not even close to the player he was when he was in his prime for Barcelona.

But Valdes is a lot better than Jones, in every possible way. I'd feel a lot more comfortable with Valdes playing ahead of Jones.

I still think we need a top quality keeper but Valdes is an improvement on Jones and that's better than nothing as we approach the last day of the transfer window.

      Agree.

Never really understood the hype with this lad on his sole performance he was always bang average.

This was always disguised with Barca's imminent success.

If Valdes is "average" I would hate to see what adjective best applies to Mignolet.

Free upgrade of second choice keeper. Since he's a free agent, pay him a reasonable wage will do. Plus throw in the option to become coaching staff. Call him whatever you like. The key is "free upgrade".

Hope this is not true at all. If Valdes was not a Barcelona child he would not be anywhere near big team. He's got good reflex and that is it, all other goalkeeping attributes are average at the best performances.

A lot of people on this forum are saying that Mignolet is only good in stopping shoots, but from what I've seen Valdes is exactly the same, only good in stopping shoots. At the crosses he swims, when ball is returned to him by CBs there is always a risk, ect...  and I just don't see that he can improve his game, meanwhile Mignolet is still young and I'm sure he will get only better.

If we are going for keeper and there is not much choice on market I would rather go whit some promising young lad

Not been Valdes' biggest fan, always thought he was a weak point to the dominant Barca team but I think he'd be an upgrade on Migs.
