Pre Match: Liverpool v Middlesbrough League Cup 23/9/2014 7.45pm
      Sep 20, 2014 09:22:25 pm
Horrible reflecting too much on our last few games so let's move on to the next one. I think that this line up could answer few questions

      Jones
      Manquillo Toure Skrtel Enrique
      Lucas Lallana Suso
      Coutinho Lambert Markovic

Can Jones provide some decent competition given Mig's form?
Is Enrique going to work his way back to pre-injury form?
Is Toure a decent plan B at his age?
      What can Suso offer Liverpool?

Whilst losing to high flying Boro would be a disaster the above line up is full of good players and it offers Sterling, Hendo, Gerrard and Moreno some much needed rest.

Let's do it. 3;1 to the reds. Time for the 4 wins in a row record to come to an abrupt end

      B Jones

      Manquillo
      Skrtel
      Toure
      Enrique

      Henderson (c)
      Lucas

      Markovic
      Coutinho
      Lallana

      Lambert

Subs: Ward; Johnson, L Jones; Rossiter, Brannagan; Suso; Yesil.

Rest Gerrard, Lovren, Balotelli, Mignolet etc.

Let's put a strong team out and start stringing some wins together.

We have a better team than we have shown so far this season and I'm sure we will show that soon, let's stay positive and support our team through a sticky spell.

I don't change the defense except maybe Enrique for Moreno. Stick with them and make them learn to play together. This however is a game where we need to see what our options are in midfield especially in the DM role.

The only good thing about this fixture pile up is we have very less time to reflect on the defeats and lick our wounds. Let's go again and put this bad run of form behind us. I hope players like Markovic, Lallana and Coutinho can find their swagger against Boro and carry on from here

                        Jones

      Manquillo  Toure  Sakho  Enrique
                       Lucas
      Lallana                      Suso
                     Coutinho
           Lambert          Markovic

Those who play well keep their places in the team specially Jones and Suso.

Would start with the starting 11 that plan on facing Everton. Its 5 games in and we shouldnt have any lethargic issues yet. Clearly this team needs more games to learn how to play together.

Jesus I dread this game now too.

I dont care if we lose games, as long as we show we can still play the same way (fast pacey, 1-2 passing) as last year - which by virtue of the fact will see us winning anyways.

Full team for me, probably only rest Gerrard.

Mignolet; Manqullio, Lovren, Sakho, Moreno; Lucas, Lallana, Henderson, Markovic; Sterling, Balotelli.

Would like to see Markovic play centrally and see what he can offer.

I hope here that we resist the temptation to simply "give people a game", and actually have a long hard look at where we're going this season by trying to make some valid alterations. It would seem likely that Rickie Lambert will play which is fair enough, but if and when he does let's look at how we best utilize his physicality so we can do the same when Balotelli plays. Step one is get people around him when we feed it in to him, someone with pace and energy. I'd look again at Borini if we must but I'd want him to stay closer to his partner than he did on Saturday. Other alternatives could be Sterling, but I'd rather we had a good look at Markovic and I'd consider having him in there, or even Coutinho if he's going to play off him a bit.

Another thing is lets work out how when and where we are going to cross the ball into the box. There seems little point to me in replacing Suarez with a player who is a completely different type, only then to attack in the same way as we did previously. Balotelli and Lambert and indeed any players of their ilk won't be seen to their best unless we cross it more often and better than we have previously. Lets start tomorrow night.

Lucas will no doubt play as the holder, but personally for reasons stated elsewhere I'd like to see Henderson played there with an eye to moving him there semi permanently. Coutinho obviously must play, but rather than him trying to split the defence every time he gets it, I'd like to see him play as the heartbeat of the team, on the ball continuously. I'd like to see Phillipe think a little more Xavi than Aimar for a bit, get it, give it and dictate the tempo a bit more.

At the back lets decide whether we're going to mark proper full on zonal or whether we're marking man to man. Let's try and keep a clean sheet and start as we mean to go on.

I think we will batter these Andy, it will be the start of a good run andwe will turn the blues over at the weekend too.

I wouldn't make many changes cause i think we need to get used to playing with each other

I'd keep the same back 4 and keeper as Ludogorets, rest the skipper, only I'm not sure who to hold as ithink Lucas gone.. Shame Can is injured, Hendo likely

Diamond with Lambert and Balo up top, Coutinho left of the midfield 3 Hendo at the base, Lallana at the right and just murder them with pace and working round Lambert

I'd like to see Markovic get some time as well

According to Jordan Lusseys dad over on RAWK there's going to be some surprises in the squad for this game but for obvious reasons he can't say what.

Give Sturridge half an hour to get him ready for Everton. I would have preferred Lovren to Sakho but after his head injury best he has a rest.

Should win this comfortably and hopefully keep a clean sheet.

Are we going to take this competition seriously, after all we are out to win trophies, or just "experiment" with squad players. I hope we go out to try and win the trophy, after all it is a piece of silverware.

Think we'll take all competitions seriously this season mate but I don't agree that using squad players is an "experiment".

They all need game time to keep them sharp, some are still coming back from injury so need match fitness, others need to be rested whilst others need to play to gain consistency.

I'd like to see the back 5 remain although Jones will probably come in for Migs and Enrique for Moreno.

Stevie and Hendo need a rest.  Possibly also Raheem.  It'll probably be Lucas, Suso and Coutinho (if he's recovered from his knock) if we go 433, with Lallana added if it's a diamond.  We might see one of the Academy lads included to but maybe not to start.

Lallana, Lazer and Lambert need to start, it's a perfect game for all of them to show their worth.

With such a depleted midfield it wouldn't surprise me to see someone like Rossiter come in.

There's quite a few who could come in mate.  From midfield, Rossiter, Brannagan, Williams, Ojo, Kent have all been training at Melwood the last few weeks.

With the midfield injuries piling up though it gives Suso a chance to get in the team and impress.

Yep do agree with you (obviously now he's injured) but playing that England game straight after getting injured definitely took something out of him.

Hope Rossiter gets a game and would love to see Ojo in the squad.
