I see it as damage limitation until the transfer window opens. Try to secure the defence as much as possible by playing two defensive midfielders and hope we can score enough goals to still be in contention until we can bring in a striker.
The goal shortage is the crucial factor s@int but it's only the tip. Bear with me here...
Cast your mind back to and remember 2011/12 season.
Folk tend to remember that we played poorly that season but... if you remember right, we missed a ridiculous amount of penalties [ 9 or 10?]; hit the woodwork about 30 - 35 times; created second most chances in the league; won the most corners; at one point only Barca had more passes in the final third; only Chelsea had more shots; Downing created more than 4 dozen chances (without 1 assist) and time after time opponents 'keepers had MotM displays.
We were very much an attacking side.Add to that the fact that we allowed the fewest shots on goal, of any team, and without even allowing for the injuries we had in midfield: it could be argued we were unlucky that season.
Thing is: up until now, this season, the scary thing is that we can't even point to bad luck, poor finishing or great goal keeping as an excuse.
So even with a damage limitation plan, in place, we really need to up the ante at the other end - can we (will we) change, what hasn't been working, in time to save the season.
