Best Liverpool 11: That you never saw!
      Oct 06, 2014 09:30:49 pm
With it being international week I thought we might be bored so heres a topic that Im sure hasn't been done before!

The best Liverpool 11s have been done to death but what about naming your best Liverpool 11 of players that you never seen in action, DVD doesn't count!

Example being Billy Liddell. Obviously I never seen him most on here wouldn't but yet we all know that he is regarded as possibly the greatest Liverpool player so he makes the cut

      Ill start off

      1) Ray Clemence; Brucie was well established before I was a red so this is a no brainer

      2) Silent night, Chris Lawler. 40 odd goals from Right full  :o say no more

      3) Gerry Byrne. The sheer fact he played the cup final from the 3rd minute on with a broken collar bone would see him in the team. Hard as they come

      4) Emlyn Hughes: Just an absolute legend and gem of a player

      5) Ray Kennedy: When Liverpool greats are talked about it amazes me how little this man is mentioned. A fantastic player who had everything in his armoury

      6) Ron Yeats. Colossus. Say no more!

      7) Ian Callaghan: As well as being class the longevity of his career assures him of a place. Proper legend.

      8) Terry McDermott: Sublime footballer and could hold his own goal of the season competition. The inventor of the late run into the box?

      9) Roger hunt: Hit 41 goals in one season. I'm having that. Didn't earn the title "Sir Roger" for nothing

      10) Perhaps the surprise pick here. Gordon Hodgson. Scored over 200 goals for Liverpool. Only Rushie and Sir Roger scored more. That's enough to earn him a place

      11) Billy Liddell: At a time when the club was struggling it was known as LIDDELLPOOL due to the brilliance of the man. Was he the best ever? Well probably never really know but the sheer fact that for some he is and those people seen Dalglish says how brilliant the man must have been

That's my 11. Ok I bottled it a bit. I had to pick Ray Kennedy and Billy Liddell so Ive moved players around to positions that they only played as a  secondary position. But fook it Im the manager :)

I am surprised no one has not mentioned Albert Stubbins , he was what could be termed the old fashioned centre forward and was fearless. He scored 75 goals in 161 games for us, as I did see Albert play for us so I realise that I should not include him in my post. I mention him in the hope that posters who did not see him play can maybe look up some old footage and see just how good and fearless in the goal area he was. he was.

Couldnt pick him ahead of Hunt and Hodgson Billy there scoring feats are unreal

Love to see your team as you'd have seen a lot of legends from yesteryear. Would be great to see your 11 that you had only read about

One player I'd love to have seen other than Kenny Dalglish would be Elisha Scott. The stories about him berating the defence and the way the kop adored him is part of how Liverpool fc and the fans, the fans were instrumental, became what it was later on.

Brilliant thread but f**k me it's so difficult, there are so many great players that I feel a major headache is imminent so to nip that in the bud here's my first off the top of my as yet painless heid......

                                Clemence
            Lawyer.   smith  Yates.   Byrne
      Liddell.  Callaghan mcdermott  R Kennedy
                            Hunt.    St John

I became a Red around '76' in Scotland but it wasn't until '83' I had my first visit to Anfield,  I'd seen plenty of old tv footage of past players but I've only included those I hadn't seen live, going to lie down now got a slight pain behind my eyes,

      I hate you Brian.   ;D

Also appeared on the cover of "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band," primarily because John Lennon liked his name haha

      Very easy really.

If you were born in, for example 1980, you could not have seen any player up to 1979 as you werent at Anfield or watching games on the tv. You could extend that out 2 or 3 years as your not going to remember watching football at 2 years of age.

Then you decide based on video/dvd footage and stories you have heard or read of players and decide whats the best 11 that you never seen play live in the flesh or on tv. Easy peezy give that lemon a squeezy!

Well I've seen Kenny play in person mate (albeit in charity games) and on countless DVD's. I may of misinterpreted the DVD's don't count bit though . I've read it as, if you've seen them on DVD then you can't include them but re-reading it makes me think if you've only seen them on DVD then it's fine to include them.

If it was Best Liverpool 11 before your lifetime then Kenny would be in there.

As for my age, that remains a mystery to everybody mate. Me mates, even than those older than me, all call me granddad (or great-granddad as one of me mates has a gorgeous little girl now). Me mam says I was born aged 70. I think officially though I'm 23.
