Reds at other Clubs - best XI's
      Oct 11, 2014 10:09:17 pm
After the side-discussion with Villa players in the "who would you support" thread, I just thought it'd be interesting to see the best XI's from various teams made up solely of Liverpool players.

Pick a team and pick their best XI of ex/current Reds. (preferably off the top of your head as well)

      My first pick;
      Blackburn

      Friedel
      Babbel Hencoz Matteo Bjornebye
      Thompson McAteer Murphy Warnock
      Bellamy Fowler

I'll go with an attack minded Newcastle...

      Mike Hooper - GK
      Alan Kennedy - LB
      Barry Venison - RB
      Didi Hamann - CH
      Terry McDermott - RH
      Peter Beardsley - IR
      John Barnes - IL
      Craig Bellamy - LH
      Michael Owen - LW
      Kevin Keegan - RW
      Ian Rush - CF

Might concede a few but F**k would they score.  >:D

In fairness to Jack Balmer he was an amateur when he signed for Everton, he signed amateur forms for Liverpool the same year 1935.This shows he had a brainstorm signing for Everton and soon realised his mistake. ,Liverpool was the only club he played for as a professional, he did play for other clubs as a wartime guest as did most players.I still recall the shop Jack Balmer had in West Derby Village.

                                La Liga XI

                                   Dudek

                                McManaman

                         Owen             Suarez

Hopelessly attack minded, but off the top of my head can't think of enough defenders to play Masch out of defense.

Nobody Racer can't we manage a 2nd eleven?  I'm not so well up on where all our ex players left for or ended up at but there's already 3 or 4 been suggested and a couple I've remembered, Tosh and Lil Luis both played in La Liga after us.

      Oops, you've already got Garcia.

Pick a team and pick their best XI of ex/current Reds.

Going off the OP criteria above there's Coutinho, Reina, Manquillo, Moreno, Enrique, Suso, Alberto, Aspas, Ilori, Torres, Riera, Morrientes just off the top of my head.  I'm sure you or others could add a few more.

Ah. I hadn't put current players or Reina in.
Had been thinking players that went to Spain after Liverpool.
Yeah, could easily make 2 or 3 teams then.

Could add Reina, Alberto, Mascherano, Suarez to a Barcelona 11.
Could add Dudek, Arbeloa, Alonso, McManaman, Owen, Morientes. Toshack as manager.
      Wonder how many else?

      Barry Venison - RB
      Didi Hamann - CH
      Terry McDermott - RH
      Peter Beardsley - IR

      Michael Owen - LW
      Kevin Keegan - RW

Might concede a few but F**k would they score.  >:D

I'll raise that team with an even more attack minded Man City (also including Didi)

      Man City

      James
      McManaman McMahon Hamann Riera
      Clough

Current Best XI of former players still playing:

      Pepe Reina (AC Milan)

      Martin Kelly (Crystal Palace)
      Martin Skrtel (Fenerbahce)
      Mamadou Sakho (Crystal Palace)
      Jon Flanagan (Rangers)

      Lucas Leiva (Lazio)
      Emre Can (Juventus)
      Joe Allen (Stoke)

      Raheem Sterling (Man City)
      Luis Suarez (Barcelona)
      Phil Coutinho (Barcelona)

Where would that team finish in the Premier League? Tasty front three but I reckon a battle for top six with that back four!

From that XI Suarez is the only one that I would have back. I'm not a great fan of #10 role that Coutinho can do. I'd rather have a strong centre mid with an attacking midfielder. Coutinho is good winger but I'd rather have 3 goal scoring forwards. Coutinho will probably score 20+ each season in La Liga, but in PL he's a 10-15 goal forward. All our first choice forwards should be 20+ goals.

What was he when he alternated with Mane then? He certainly wasn't a goal scoring forward when he was deployed in a front 3. He's attempted to be #10 and CM but he's got no defensive attributes for those roles. We don't need a  Coutinho we need a central midfielder that can pass forward well as well as track back. Gerrard, Ox and Milner are good examples. Keita should be doing that as well. I don't like having a player that is too close to the center if they can't win the ball back. If we have such a player then we should not have a front 3, #10 leaves too much defensive vulnerabilities if deployed with a front 3... It would essentially mean doing this with a front 2.

               Salah             Firmino
                           #10

This is the missing link people complain about, but it's not better... do people think none of our current 3 can track back? If we really need #10 like Firmino could do that.
I don't think many people would want to give up a striker for a number #10. Does adding another player close to the midfield really add that much when a striker only has to adjust his position? Shaqiri could be a number #10 as well if Klopp really wanted one.

We need a player who sits deep and makes defensive contributions. Modric has done that brilliantly at Madrid. We need a Modric not a Coutinho. Basically a Henderson with playmaking abilities.

Fair enough - was only teasing re the winger classification for Cou.

Not many teams wouldn’t benefit from a Modric.

Given Mane's sale to Bayern, I had a look at those who've played for both clubs before and unfortunately couldn't muster a starting XI but F**k me this isn't a bad side for a one man down team.

      Reina
      Babbel Can Zeige
      Shaqiri Alonso Hamann Thiago Coutinho
      Mane

And seeing how we got him from Southampton, let's have a go with them but with no Klopp signings.
