QPR vs Liverpool - Kick off Sunday 1330 BST
      Oct 17, 2014 12:02:32 am

Strange this thread isn't already here so I'm trying to make an attempt to start one.

Hoping for a continuation of improvement in the Reds League performance this season, hope this will be a continuation from the last league game which saw the Redmen defeat West Brom.

QPR hasn't been an easy hunting ground for the Reds and this is to hoping they bulk the trend.

With a host of players coming back from injury, i expect to see an hungry Red squad though I believe the gaffer would have the Champions League clash against Real Madrid at the back of his mind.

With 7 games coming up in 21 days lets hope this is the beginning of a run of great results.

My prediction is a first half blow out of the host. High scoring game for the reds with 1st league goals for a few of the new lads (Balo, Lambert).

      Common Redmen.

      YNWA.

So Lovren is out injured, right?  as is Sakho?

So that means Skrtel is going to be paired with.... Toure?

did Toure play for Ivory Coast this week?

      Wow proper football back on!

On paper this should be a banker 3 pts but we never do anything easy but we should still be too strong for these lot.
A goal each for Balo, Studge and Raheem then doing some sort of celebration about how tired he is  ;D

A decent performance and win would be a confidence boost ahead of the Madrid game.

Its crazy like. The lower the team are, the less confidence I have in the match. WTF is that all about?

Should be a straightforward annihilation of them. Studge start and it will be. Need to kick on here. Every game is now a must win.

I'd always expect to beat QPR the way they've been playing, I'd go as far as to say I expect us to beat everyone now after our very unballsy start to the season, surely the law has been laid down now and major players are coming back from injury.

If we play at least as well as we did against West Brom then this should be an easy win, I am of course expecting us to play even better.

Wouldn't mind seeing Stevie rested for this one. We will need him fresh against Madrid, and we should have more than enough to blow QPR away without him. They have been dire this season and we should make light work of this even away from home. Hoping balo can open his account. Would be great to see Lallana get another one, and this could be a game for Markovic to gain some confidence.

Mignolet, Enrique, Lovren, Skrtel, Manquillo, Gerrard, Can, Lallana, Coutinho, Sterling, Lambert to start.

Johnson for Manquillo, Sturridge/Balotelli for Lambert and Henderson for Can.

That's a shame, what's that now something like 7 weeks out for our best striker.

If he's not even training with the first team then does not look likely to appear against Madrid  :o

Good point about Stevie. I suppose he could make a late cameo appearance in the AM position.

But then again, I'm not sure Can will be either rushed back or played from the off after his lay off.

But you have given me food for thought and without taking anything away from QPR, I'd like to see:

                            Stig

      Johnson. Skertel.  Sahko.  Moreno

                           Lucas

              Henderson.      Lallana

                           Coutinho

                     Balotelli.    Sturridge

Rest Stevie, Enrique and Raheem for Madrid but bring on Can in the QPR game for Madrid fitness

      Ah, footie manager.  ;D

If you buy into "bib theory" then it looks like orange bibs will be our starters. That would suggest:

      Migs
      Manquillo - Skrtel - Lovren - Enrique
      Gerrard - Can
      Sterling - Coutinho - Lallana
      Lambert

Despite Lambert not exactly firing on cylinders should be able to bag a couple against the team with the worst GD in the league.....Heres hoping anyway if he is starting.

I've not listened to Brendans press conference but he's said he'll check on him tomorrow before making a decision, so maybe he will be ok for Madrid mate.

Seems like it and maybe it's enough to beat QPR, afterall that is why we needed a stronger squad so we can rotate for CL games.

Quite OK with that. Means Hendo, Allen, Studge, Mario, Johnson ??? and Moreno will start against Madrid. Sterling and Stevie need to start mid week as well, so will be interesting to see when BR would send in Markovic and Lucas respectively.

If all goes according to plan I'd imagine BR is going to want to put Allen and Markovic on for Stevie and Sterling around the hour mark to save them for the CL tie against Madrid. Although, it could be Studge on for Sterling (if he is fit) to start getting him back into the groove.

Small steps in improvement from Johnson would be a start so if he stops being sh*te and goes to just average that would be a good start never mind brilliant.

I doubt he is capable of doing brilliant anymore and debatable if he ever did.

We need three points, whether we play well or not. We should beat QPR without too much hassle as long as our defence doesn't gift them soft goals.

GJ coming back and him being the answer to some of the problems we've had this season, is like that definition of insanity
"Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." - Albert Einstein
Although Einstein wasn't the first or the only person to word it that way.

He probably will play I think, I'd rather he didn't... could lead to goals against us (CB's left stranded) and we'll have to do everything from the left attacking-wise.

Unless he plays on the left!

Dont rate Johnson but still think he will get nod in the big games due to his experience and tbh Manquillo is not as good as i hoped Manquillo was brought in as cover for Flanagan/Johnson

I'd like to see Sterling play up front with Balotelli meself. No Studge for another month means the manager needs to find another so a solution is needed and that is the one I would try.

I think Lambert should play with Mario ahead of him. We need to get an alternative strike force up and running because this season is going to be over soon unless we get a settled side together that can win football matches

Totally agree.  There is little to no point in playing either of them on their own.  Either Borini tags with one of them, or they both play.  One target man up front has not worked this season.

I think your both bonkers, Play two target men up front instead of one is what you are suggesting. We would get totally over run in midfield and wouldn't have nearly as much of the ball as usual. It might have worked in the 80's but I'd be very worried if Brendan decided to go down this route, really worried. I'd prefer to see Sterling given a shot up top with either of our target men.

The other alternative would be to give Stevie a run out behind Balotelli.

Losing Studge for a further 4 weeks is a right kick in the Bawbag,  but not all is lost as yet, cannot see a Balo /Lambert front two working their to similar imo,  but I can see a Balo / Borini pairing working if given enough time, Balo needs a decoy and Borini could prove the ideal foil,

For a few weeks last season he banged a few in for the black cats and was pivotal for them staying up, he was given a chance by Gus Poyet allowing him a run of games,  so why not give the lad a go, he refused to move on in the summer believing he would get his chance,  let's give him his chance see how it goes,
Look I'm not saying he's the answer,  far from it, but  if he can give Balo the space he needs then why not,?

                              Mignolet
      Johnson  Skrtel Lovren Moreno
                      Hendo Gerrard
              Sterling.              Lallana
                         Borini
                                        Ballotelli

Bench ; Jones, Toure, Manquillo, Markovic, Lambert, Suso, Rossiter

Ok we're understrengh but should still have too much for Harry's hopefuls,

I'm predicting a 0-2 Redmen victory with Lallana and Balo bagging the goodies,

I think your both bonkers, Play two target men up front instead of one is what you are suggesting. We would get totally over run in midfield and wouldn't have nearly as much of the ball as usual. It might have worked in the 80's but I'd be very worried if Brendan decided to go down this route, really worried. I'd prefer to see Sterling given a shot up top with either of our target men.

The other alternative would be to give Stevie a run out behind Balotelli.

      Lambert plays DEEP.

Mignolet; Johnson, Skrtel, Lovren, Moreno; Can, Henderson; Sterling, Gerrard, Lallana; Balotelli.

Did think that Sterling needs a rest but not too many other options for us really. Don't think it's a game for Markovic and using Coutinho leaves us short on width and pace.

      We will win tomorrow.

Bad news re Daniel.  Hope it does'nt become a recurring problem.  He's very capable, will get lots of goals.... but needs to be fit.  I'm no expert on his career to date, but injuries seem to have been a problem in the past. I think we'll be in the Window for an additional striker in Jan.
No Top 4 (or aspiring top 4) team can continue without top firepower.

Whats going on with Mario? I'm hoping when he starts scoring he can't stop, but he does'nt appear to have ever been a goal machine.  But, we need a minimum of 20 goals in all comps from him, if not more.

He drops deep at times but he is still a target man, he does his best work with his back to goal, he's big, he's strong, decent in the air and not particularly mobile. Ditto for Balotelli. It won't work.

I see your thought process mate but Borini simply doesn't scare defences, he runs hard, works hard and is an intelligent player but he can't take anyone on, he isn't a great threat with long shots, he just doesn't offer enough threat, he's workmanlike. Playing Borini means leaving a better player out of the side.

For me there are two options, play Sterling up there with Balo or stick Stevie back in the hole and see what he can do there.

Don't think there'd be many arguments around if we saw that line-up mate.

                          Mig
      Manquillo Skrtel Lovren Moreno
                         Can
           Henderson    Lallana
                       Gerrard
                Balotelli    Sterling

Johnson would probably start in a lot of people's opinion but the point being that we would surely carry much more a threat going forward. Throwing Can in straight away might be a bit much so choose Lucas if you must but I'd rather give Emre the minutes against a team I'd expect to beat.

      The team I expect is:

                         Mig
      Johnson Skrtel Lovren Moreno
                Gerrard Henderson
          Sterling Coutinho Lallana
                      Balotelli

We are desperate for 6 points from the next two league games to go get our season up and running.

Hope Allen comes in and Stevie moves up behind the striker whether it be Mario or Lambert as both have looked totally isolated. Either that or put Borini in alongside one of them.

Good points well made mate, I never gave it enough thought if I'm honest,  but you're right in that we would have something missing by playing Fabio,

I noticed Can being mentioned I'm not sure though if he'd be match fit enough yet, or Allen for that matter, however if it means we can push Stevie forward for an hour, then that's what should have happen,  then adjust for the last 30, by then we should be home and hosed,

Rumour has it that Stevie will be pushed up to AM behind Balo today so I'd guess that means Lucas as DM with Hendo between them.  Can't see Allen or Can starting but they'll probably come on at some stage.

Just get the 3 points boys goals and clean sheet will be a bonus after that. The negative in me says that after international week this will be trickier them we think so Ill gladly just get it out of the way with 3 points in the bag

      Id go 4-3-1-2

Mingolat: Manquillo Sakho Skrtel Moreno: Gerrard Henderson Allen: Lallana: Balotelli Lambert.

      Lovern injures isn't he?

glad to see you have Balotelli and Lambert people think Lambert is a target man but he plays the number 10 role very well too. We need to play him or the question is why did we buy him.

We'll stuff them - nothing tricky about it.

If we have to go with a lone striker then, for me, it would be this:

                                  Balotelli
         Lallana               Gerrard         Sterling

                        Can             Henderson

      And.... in a diamond, this:

                            Balotelli Sterling

                                 Coutinho

                    Lallana                Henderson

                                 Gerrard

      And... in a 4 3 3, this:

             Lallana   Borini  Sterling

                         Coutinho
            Gerrard                 Henderson

Either way - we'll still stuff them.  >:D

It would be interesting to see Stevie play as an attacking midfielder again. If QPR go defensive and play their usual passive-pressing style then I can see it being an ideal game for him. Not too much running :D

Either way, Mario has to have a good game today. We're playing relegation no-hopers here where Rio Ferdinand is the best defender. Last season's team would hit these fuckers into the record books for worst ever defeat.
