      The FA Cup Thread 2014-15
      Oct 28, 2014 02:24:58 pm
First Round. £18,000 to the winning sides in this round.

A tasty-looking Yorkshire derby stands out in the draw for the first round of the FA Cup, on the proviso FC Halifax Town get through a replay.

In the draw made on Monday night, the club reformed in 2008 were drawn to be at home to play Bradford City, but first they must see off fellow non-league side Chorley.

Even a Chorley win would provide an interesting aside, with Bradford’s manager, Phil Parkinson, coming from the Lancashire town.

The lowest-ranked side left in the competition – Northern Division One team Shildon – will welcome local club Gateshead if they get the better of Norton in a replay.

Warrington Town, managed by Peter Reid’s brother Shaun, will play host to Exeter, while another non-league side, AFC Fylde, must make a 640-mile round trip to Plymouth.

Other notable match-ups include Maidstone going to Stevenage for their maiden first-round tie since reforming in 1992 and the 1987 winners Coventry City welcoming Worcester City to the Ricoh Arena.

The highest-ranked team in the draw, Bristol City, must go to Gillingham; whoever replaces Gary Rowett as Burton Albion manager will head to Barnsley; last season’s semi-finalists Sheffield United must travel to Crewe; and Morecambe have a long journey to either Eastbourne or Dover.

      First-round draw

Barnsley v Burton; Basingstoke or Harrow Borough v Spennymoor or Telford; Blyth Spartans v Altrincham; Bromley v Dartford; Bury v Nuneaton or Hemel Hempstead; Cambridge Utd v Fleetwood; Canvey Island or Havant & Waterlooville v Preston; Chelmsford or Barnet v Wycombe; Cheltenham v Swindon; Chorley or Halifax v Bradford City; Coventry v Worcester City; Crewe v Sheffield Utd; Dag & Red v Tamworth or Southport; Eastbourne or Dover v Morecambe; Eastleigh v Alfreton or Lincoln City; Forest Green v Scunthorpe; Gillingham v Bristol City; Gosport v Colchester; Grimsby v Oxford Utd; Hartlepool v East Thurrock; Luton v Newport County; Macclesfield or Wrexham v Woking; Mansfield v Concord; Northampton v Rochdale; Norton or Shildon v Gateshead; Notts County v Accrington Stanley; Oldham v Leyton Orient; Peterborough v Carlisle; Plymouth v Fylde; Portsmouth v Aldershot; Port Vale v MK Dons; Southend v Chester; Stevenage v Maidstone Utd; Tranmere v Bristol Rovers; Walsall v Shrewsbury; Warrington Town v Exeter City; Weston-super-Mare v Doncaster; Weymouth or Braintree v Chesterfield Yeovil v Crawley; York v AFC Wimbledon.

Ties to be played on 7, 8, 9, 10 November.

City 1-0 down and Chelsea 3-2 down (after being 2-0 up) with a handful minutes of injury time left in each. WOW!

My brother (United fan) just messaged me saying he can't wait to see who they get in the next round, I had to remind him of their replay against Cambridge! :)

How the actual f**k, as a team with a record as strong as theirs and a team as expensive as theirs, do you blow a 2-0 lead to lose 4-2 to a league 1 outfit? Astounding from Bradford but utterly laughable from Chelsea!

I guess Mourinho suffered that disgraceful loss after all. Should keep his mouth shut in future. Reminds me of Hodgson talking sh*t about Suarez at the World Cup before he knocked us out :D

Carles Gil with a cracking goal for Villa. The lad looked impressive in his debut against us.

Teams in the hat for the next round:

      Aston Villa
      Arsenal
      West Ham Utd
      Cambridge Utd or Man Utd
      Blackburn Rovers
      Crystal Palace
      Bradford City
      Derby County
      Preston NE or Sheffield Utd
      West Brom
      Reading
      Sunderland or Fulham
      Middlesbrough
      Leicester City
      Liverpool or Bolton
      Rochdale or Stoke (play tomorrow)

That has to be one of the weakest last 16 draws I've ever seen in the FA Cup. The only team I would want us to avoid in the next round (should we get past Bolton) is Arsenal.
