£120m - what would you have done?
      Nov 08, 2014 11:07:18 pm
A bit of a cheeky thread this but lets become managers for a second.

Looking back at last summer, say FSG handed you £120m and you could spend it however you liked. Who would you have bought? The two rules are:

      1. You can only buy players who ACTUALLY moved clubs last summer
      2. The players amount is the actual cost they moved to their new club for

      David Ospina - £3m
      Keylor Navas - £8m
      Mehdi Benatia - £22m
      Serge Aurier - £Loan
      Alberto Moreno - £12m
      Xabi Alonso - £8m
      Antoine Griezmann - £24m
      Diego Costa - £32m
      Graziano Pelle - £8m

So, we don't do the old 'net' spend argument/excuse with Rodgers in charge these days?

We only do that with managers we like mate, otherwise we would have to acknowledge that Hodgson made a net profit on transfers :)

Yeah, I gathered that. I don't care who is acknowledged or not but some consistency would be nice. Rafa was ALWAYS excused/argued with the 'net' spend stuff, Rodgers isn't. As you say, we should acknowledge Roy.  :f_tongueincheek:

      Fun thread.   ;D

      Sanchez - £35m
      Fabregas - £26m
      Rakitic - £16m
      Moreno - £12
      Can - £9m
      Remy - £8m
      Vorm - £5m
      Aurier - loan
      Alex Song - loan
Menez - was on a free

      oh and.... Diame - £3m.   ;D

      = £114m.

So we'd have lined up something like this:

      Vorm
      Aurier Skrtel Agger Moreno
      Fabregas Rakitic
      Sterling Sanchez Coutinho
      Sturridge

bench: Mignolet, Song, Diame, Remy, Can, Toure.

      1. Replace Suarez by throwing money at the problem.
      2. Decide why we conceded so many last year and fix this.
      3. Recognise that we already had Ilori (no Lovren), wisdom (no Manquillo) , Ibe/Suso (no markovic).

I am not suggesting all our targets would have come to us but 4 excellent players would have helped massively. Only Can Moreno Lallana and Origi make any sense

Aguero 100m then f*ck off with the other 20m  :f_whistle:

Then he gets injured and is out until when Suarez's ban would of ended...

aguero would be the absolute perfect suarez replacement. but I don't see fsg spending say 100mil on him when we only got like70mil for suarez.

in a perfect world and say we could buy even the players that didn't move.

      I would buy messi

Paid off Carra's sky contract and hired him as a defensive coach and get lipo for Fowler to get him back trim and get him back on the playing staff

I would have waited to have signed a top top forward before selling Suarez. There are only two or three players at his level. I wouldn't be able to replace his quality but I'd get the next best thing available. Throw money at Madrid for Isco or Di Maria, offer Sanchez wages he couldn't refuse, go all out for Marco Reus. I'm talking top top players here.

As for defenders, I only believe in spending silly amounts if they are well established (I.e thiago Silva, Varane) not one season wonders like Lovren.

Lallana is too lightweight. Made it obvious I was never a fan of his. A fine player for a club that builds their team around that one player, but not good enough for us.

Moreno and Can I would have gone ahead with. These both seem like fine players who will come good one day.

In January we need to spend more, but I'm not sure I trust Brendan with the cash. We are over emphasising on purchasing young players. Let the academy take care of that

Pity the man who bought him didn't give him a run in the side to show it as any time he's played he's been one of our better players.
