Replay shows he was off literally by about 10 inches, but harsh of an assessment there wouldn't you say Luke?
No mate by his reaction, he felt he was off-side. He could have just left it and ran on for the next phase, 3 on 2 (including their keeper) and basically walked it in.
I thought the shot was the wrong choice, granted it went in, decision making is a large part of what separates the best players imo and that was poor.
He's young and will learn from it but I guarantee that Brendan will be telling him to be smarter in that situation.
