      Frightening Young Talent
      Mar 01, 2015 08:37:29 pm
When you look at squads across the Premier League and compare the young talent we have on our books, we can be a force to be reckoned with over the next 10-15 years or so. Below, I've listed players who I believe will be at the club for a long time and its frightening the talent we have at the club.

      18 (or under)
      Jordan Rossiter (17)
      Sheyi Ojo (17)
      Pedro Chirivella (17)
      Harry Wilson (17)
      Sergi Canos (18)

      22 (or under)
      Jordon Ibe (19)
      Divock Origi (19)
      Javier Manquillo (20)
      Lazar Markovic (20)
      Raheem Sterling (20)
      Andre Wisdom (21)
      Emre Can (21)
      Jon Flanagan (22)
      Alberto Moreno (22)
      Tiago Illori (22)
      Philippe Coutinho (22)
      Joao Carlos Texeira (22)

      26 (or under)
      Jordan Henderson (24)
      Joe Allen (24)
      Mario Balotelli (24)
      Mamadou Sakho (25)
      Dejan Lovren (25)
      Daniel Sturridge (25)
      Simon Mignolet (26)
      Adam Lallana (26)

Ryan Kent, Jerome Sinclair, Adam Phillips and Lloyd Jones deserve a mention too.

Nice looking list. All of today's starting XI are in it, except Skrtle , I think.

Biggest thing is going to be keping those U-22 's as long as we can.   Couts, Can, Raheem , eventually the sharks will be a comin .

That's why IMO , it's so very important to get back into CL next year. We have to establish a consistency. No one year in one year out sh*t. EVERY year in.  It's the only way financially to keep this young core of talent.  Because we will never outspend the likes of Cheski an Shitty, we know that.

And it's gonna be fun watchin these guys all getting better together, over the next few seasons.

Heard a bit about Adam Phillips from some, apparently very highly rated, though I've yet to see him play for the U18s.

Watched Ojo and he's been immense in the U18s.

Of the academy players, its not really wise to list them as players who will be with for us any decent period of time. Its such a lottery the way players develop - particularly with injuries and the like. Its probable that only two of those academy players named in the thread will remain. That said, Ojo seems to be as about a good a bet as you'll get. He is one of the youngest players getting regular minutes in the championship.

If you are good enough to play regularly in a good league (and we forget that the Championship is actually quite a strong league relative to global football) at 17, regardless of your g+a tally and other stats, its a fairly safe bet that you'll be a very good player.

Genuine question: does anyone know how many of these lads are scouse?

i think thats a key in keeping them longer at the club. I know its not fool proof ie McManaman etc but i think a strong love for the club and city goes a long way

I think it's only a matter of time before Barca start taking an interest in Coutinho, particularly as Iniesta gets nearer the end of his career.

Just seen the Under-21s on Sky Sports and there are some real talents in there. Sinclair and Canos looks superb prospects and Wilson has something about him too.

However, its foolish to expect them to step into the first team just yet. I'd like to see the club do what they have done with Ojo and send him on loan to a Championship team where they will play against 'real men'. Its difficult to gauge what they will do when they are playing against their equivalent age group. Ojo, Sinclair, Chirivella, Rossiter, Canos and Wilson should be loaned out to Championship teams next season and then take it from there.

Hope we put a hefty release clause on his last contract. At the rate he is progressing in 2 years his value will be up upwards of £60 million.

Absolutely. Of the current squad, Coutinho looks like someone who - if he can consistently play to the level he has been recently - only matter of time before clubs come knocking. Sterling too.

Couldn't agree more. Coutinho is literally the perfect replacement for Iniesta, isn't he? His style of play is similar to a peak Iniesta.

I think we'll be ok if we're constantly in CL and challenging for the title and cups. Perhaps it is Barca who should be worried when this happens, Coutinho will have a nice quiet word with Neymar for us :D

Genuinely looks like the club is going to have 1 or 2 players arrive into the first team each season that can genuinely add to the quality of the group. That's as good a turnover as is to be expected from any club.

It would be unrealistic to expect them all to make it,
but certainly Flanagan, Sterling, Ibe, Ojo, Sinclair, Rossiter and a few others have been given a great chance.

I think the pick are Sterling, Ibe and perhaps Sinclair.
I don't know a lot about Ojo, altho he does show promise.
      Teixera is a possible.

Thought Sinclair's goal was terrific yday. Partly because it shows he has two good feet.

I think Sinclair and Ojo should be the next two knocking on the first team door the season after next.

They are both so talented and I feel have the tools to be Premier League players from what little I've seen of them. Both also have an excellent temperament and attitude too.

That's a phenomenal return for the Academy, any Academy mate, I think the normal return is 1 every 2-3 seasons.  I know we've not been productive enough over the last 15 years or so even though recently a few are starting to make their way in the game.  Robinson and Coady at Huddersfield, Ayala at Middlesbrough, Ince at wherever his Dad feels like pimping him out to.

There are so many now that could make it into the squad and not just the usual suspects that are the standouts but there are an awful lot who are quietly working away, improving all the time that could yet be surprise talents.

For me the next ones to watch are

      Ryan Fulton - GK - 18
      Dan Cleary - CB - 18
      Jordan Williams - CB/DM/CM - 19
      Adam Phillips - CM/AM - 17
      Connor Randall - RWB - 19
      Sam Hart - LB/LWB - 18
      Ryan Kent - LW/RW/AM - 18

      Very exciting times.

Absolutely they could make it too mate and yes they're either 17/18, I just wanted to highlight some names that weren't necessarily known to others as possible prospects.
