Because people are being critical of something they have no knowledge of mate.

This place used to be fun, somewhere to have a laugh and a joke about all sorts of things now it's just one big bitchfest.

Of course we have knowledge of it when we see their interaction on a match-day. When we see interviews, to suggest otherwise is the fallacy here Debs.

Trying to suggest this type of thread is bringing down the boards is also too far imo. We can see there are problems when it comes to adapting quick enough in terms of formation / tactics. Why then wouldn't it be prudent to discuss where the problem lies. What gets me is the constant insinuation that any type of question, whether in terms of player transfers, tactics, Pascoe, whatever you like seems to become a line drawn in the sand of whether you want Brendan or not, it's actually becoming all that is debated on this board and that is tiresome.

Personally I believe if Brendan had a strong minded number two it could be a fantastic combination, it would though take a change of attitude from Brendan himself though, if he is capable of that who knows but I would rather expore that route before saying I thought the manager himself wasn't good enough as he has proven on many occasions that he can come up with solutions, seeing the problems early enough is his problem imo.

It seems to me that people are questioning Pascoe as a backhanded way of criticising the Boss.  Nobody's asking questions of Mike Marsh maybe because he's one of us and was already a Coach at the Club.
If I could agree more than 100% I would.

I know the agenda is so blatant it's embarrassing. I think Luke would like Benitez as assistant manager or defensive coach or something  :f_whistle:.

I'm not sure how we can learn anything from the clips we see of their interactions on match days mate.

It's also amazing how Pascoe seems to have so much influence when we're going through a bad patch but as soon a form picks up no one seems to come and say he's doing a great job backing up the manager.

I think he did a helluva job today; those shorts he was wearing really disarmed the toon staff and players.

On Raheem's goal I think I noticed Colin standing up and stretching right before the strike.

He really cocked up on Sterling's misses though. I expect better from our Assistant Manager.

It's human interaction mate, everyone can interpret dominance and yes men, or hangers on from social interaction, you're saying it like it's some alien skill, when in reality it's a skill we all have subconsciously. Secondly you're a business man, you've worked in partnership with people, what asset are those who simply say yes to everything, they're absolutely useless. In fact they're a liability because we all have bad ideas (here come the geniuses to say "yeah you posting this... blah blah") and that affirmation of a bad idea is terribly destructive.

My point is that I believe Brendan needs someone next to him who has the strength of character to question some of his decisions, see the things he doesn't and complement his management style. That might make Brendan think twice, causing him to analyse his decisions and how they will play out rather than saying "yes boss, that'll work great!"

Sorry Luke I didn't reply properly to your post earlier.

I don't like the divide lines either which was kinda my point when I said that this debate is just another way to attack Brendan.  By all means debate what an Assistant Manager should bring to the table but to outright say Pascoe's no good, insinuating that Brendan's weak for bringing in his own man rather than someone more to their taste is what I object to.

Your last paragraph is a case in point mate, you're saying that Pascoe isn't strong minded when we don't know if he is or he isn't and that to have a strong minded Assistant, Brendan needs to change which implies that he's weak.

If Brendan did go down the route of getting rid of Colin and bringing in someone else, will people also be critical of him being a "yes" man because he's answering to the Boss?  I don't see the difference mate, Brendan is the Boss and as the Boss he gets to bring in or work with whoever the hell he wants.

Maybe they are just like minded and when we see Colin being a 'Yes man' in the dugout he is just agreeing to a change that they have worked on during training etc.

I still don't see how we can make any meaningful judgement on whether or not Pascoe is a 'Yes man' just by those fleeting glimpses we see on camera at times during a game.

Surely they do all that in their meetings though Luke, all the planning for the match is done days in advance so unless there's an injury there should be no need for off the cuff suggestions or discussions.

Truth is...I don't really want the assistant manager challenging the boss's decisions/tactics.

Offering opinions sure, but ultimately it's the boss who's head will be on the block so he should be the one that takes charge of tactics.

While some may look at Pasco and assume that he's not strong willed, doesn't challenge Brendan or is in some way not good enough, I look at their interaction and think there are two guys that understand each other, work together and are on the same page when it comes to what they want to happen on the pitch.

Doesn't really matter because if things go well Brendan will get the kudos and if things don't go well, it's Brendan who will get the chop and Colin will get chopped as well by default (most likely)

How many times have we been convinced the tactics are completely wrong in the first 10 minutes of matches only for things to be changed at half time? I disagree completely that the decisions are made before the game and are adhered to from there on out, I think much of football management / assistant management is down to in game management and how you adapt when you're losing. It's very easy to manage when you're winning but what happens when things aren't going well is what I believe defines you and sets you aside from the rest and on that I think we fail collectively at the moment and I believe Brendan could definitely do with some help that he currently doesn't receive.

This is true, there are games where we've changed things around early on but how do we know that Colin wasn't against that set up so they decided how they would change it beforehand?

It's all supposition because we just don't know mate.

I think there's always a place for having a healthy exchange of views about the right course to take, but seriously how the f*ck are we to infer from the guy's body language and his interactions on TV whether or not he's doing that sufficiently with Brendan? It's f*cking ridiculous to even attempt it and all this stuff about his demeanour and his postie looks is embarrassing. People go about their jobs in different ways.

It really is embarrassing. What do we want, the manager and his assistant having an argument in the dugout about who should come on?  :lmao:. Shanks would've stood for that wouldn't he, or Benitez?

It's a very silly argument and Luke would do himself no harm if he dropped it.
