Shouldn't Carra and Gerrard have stuck up for Rafa when he needed it? And were they not in favour of Hodgson's appointment.

If you want evidence for the pairs lack of judgement, that may be it.

Throw in the Gerrard/Joe Cole comment while you're at it

If Carragher wants to become a coach/manager, he needs to do what Guardiola did: Go to a different league and country to learn different perspectives and tactics and then start at the youth level.

people mentioning the likes of Carra and Fowler must be on the source

these guys have no experience of what the job is about

People that write source instead of the sauce must be on the funky mud ;)

Yes, I still believe Souness and Thommo don't speak to each other because of that falling out I believe?

From what I know, they never got on as players and Thommo got a proper cob on when they took the captaincy off him and gave it to Souness in the 80s. Understandable, a life-long Liverpool fan losing the armband to get a cob on.

Souey getting rid of him out the club when he arrived as manager probably added to the animosity.

      Tweet:

FSG doing to Rodgers what the FBI did to Blatter.

Take out the generals lieutenants & isolate him to a point of surrender.

Not in a million years - that is laughable to be honest! Board members would never play such sheer stupid games like that. Rodgers would have been told all this and Pascoe and Marsh knew their fate after the meeting.

      So F***ing what lad?

Paisley, Moran, Bennett, Fagan and Evans had no F***ing experience when they comprised the bootroom for Bill Shankly. And guess what, we F***ing dominated the sport with their experience.

oh, so it was Marsh and Pascoe's fault that we're sh*te.

      yea that makes perfect sense.

"Brendan, you're amazing, and absolutely incredible manager; however, we're sh*te, but it can't possibly be your fault since you're amazing.  So let's blame Pascoe and Marsh."

Those Bootroom Boys were knowledgeable smart guys with coaching experience within the club. I highly doubt we are going anywhere apart from down if we hired Fowler.

It is a very different game though mate.

The continental influence and exchange of ideas across the world wasn't at the level it is today, and the English game is very much different because of such new ideas.

Football was very parochial back then with parochial coaches and parochial knowledge and experience, and mere parochialism will get us nowhere in today's globalised footballing world. And looking at a lot of ex-players, none of them played abroad or have studied the game abroad. All continental knowledge and experience factors have to be taken into account before hiring managers these days.

If we got any old ex player in it could be wrong. Carra would be fine though in my opinion.

Pascoe and Marsh have their badges? Look where it's got them.

I'm comfortable in admitting I have no idea what  'parochial' means.

Those Bootroom Boys were knowledgeable smart guys with coaching experience within the club. I highly doubt we are going anywhere apart from down if we hired Fowler.

Evans, Paisley and Moran went straight from their playing days onto the coaching staff, Fagan had very limited experience of non-League management, Bennett again had limited experience of management, some in Scotland and a little under Phil Taylor prior to Shankly's arrival at Liverpool.

It's the way of modern day football though. Can't go for someone who's just retired from their playing days who has Liverpool at heart, gotta go for a big foreign name instead.

I'm not for one minute suggesting that Gerrard, Fowler, Carragher and the current reserve team manager at Partick Thistle are the new bootroom just waiting to happen. But the excuses people are giving to write off those players are a joke.

      Yes I do disagree.

What has changed is the mindsets of almost everybody involved in football. Owners, managers, players, fans. Football, as a game, has not changed. It's still 11 against 11. The aim is still to score more than your opponent. The goal is the same size. The pitch is the same size. And Liverpool Football Club is still the biggest club in the world.

On that subject mate an excerpt from an article discussing possible replacements:

      Rene Meulensteen

Certainly not a former player, Dutchman Meulensteen is a highly regarded coach with a wealth of experience in the Premier League – most notably as Alex Ferguson’s assistant at Old Trafford from 2007 to 2013.

Players speak incredibly highly of his training sessions and he holds the UEFA Pro Licence.

He spoke about how Rodgers needs to improve his backroom staff last year, saying:

“He has obviously got people around him who he obviously thinks are the right ones.

“But I think he could have done with someone who has been there, seen it and done it.

“Playing in the Premier League and the Champions League, it’s a different rhythm that requires a different style of training and a different management strategy through the week. You need to know these things.”

I don't think I've ever seen a case where the assistant manager and 1st team coach are sacked but not the manager.
