do you expect me to respond sincerely to a poster who can't be bothered to spell my username correctly?

If you can't bother with capitals, what's wrong with misspelling a name? Very little difference.

As a by-the-by, from you, sincerity?  Not based on your posts so far.

This lad is 22 years old and is in the age group representative squads for England. He led the line on his own last season for a relegated team and got into double figures. So far in his career he has tended not to get injured, and he looks like the kind of bloke who runs his bollocks off for the shirt every single game. He didn't make it as a kid, was released by Southampton I think it was before he went to Bournemouth. From there he was out on loan to a non-league team for quite a while, and he even took a while to break through at Bournemouth when he came back. Went to Burnley and after a slow start was the championship player of the year last season, before stepping up this this season just gone. I get the impression this lad knows what it's like to clean his own boots, knows what it's like to go in the showers after the game and discover there's no hot water, knows what it's like to have the sh!t kicked out of him on a wet and freezing night in Rochdale. Is he a superstar? No, nor is he a "marquee" signing either. What he is is an old fashioned footballer, one who wants to better himself and by all accounts is a superhuman trainer who works on his game continually. We've had a couple of them at Liverpool before, from such unheralded clubs as Scunthorpe and the like, some of 'em didn't turn out half bad either.

A couple of other points. When we went in for him at Christmas the lad made it 100% clear that no matter what, he was staying at Burnley till the end of the season to try and help them stay up. It made not one iota of difference how much money he was offered or who offered it, he was going to see out his contract at Burnley. Sean Dyche mentioned many times how everyone at the club was full of admiration for his stance, and how his attitude and professionalism was first class. In these days of player revolt, I personally think it was a nice thing to hear. The other thing to compare and contrast is if Danny Ings was called Daniello Ingshasi and was being signed from Bologna as opposed to Burnley, how different would all our reactions be?

As I've said many times I'm a sucker for an underdog. Obviously we need a top striker or indeed any striker who bags us goals, but there's something within me that kind of hopes that whoever we get, Danny Ings is a huge success in whatever capacity we use him. Welcome to Liverpool Football club Danny, prove everyone wrong mate and smash it to pieces.

Great post mate, I too like him and think he could turn out quite a coup, there is absolutely no reason why he can't thrive playing alongside better quality players, he's done incredibly well considering who he played with previously, and no disrespect to Burnley but he was their best  player imo,

Welcome Danny Ings, welcome to LFC, your going to shine fella, shine very brightly indeed.

Don't know for sure , but I've this gut feeling that Ings could turn out to be a great signing.

Not only is willing to work his socks off, he's a good finisher too. More than that though, his attitude seems to be just right.

I keep getting an Aldridge feel about him. Not fashionable, coming from an average club, works like mad, and knows where the goal is. No flash, no fuss, just head down and does his job.

Personally I think Ings could already be the bargain of the season for us at least.

Hard to get excited is it. Time will tell whether he's an upgrade on more recent inhabitants of the LFC conveyor belt of not-quite-good-enough-strikers.

I like the look of his mentality, attitude, work rate etc and he looks a decent finisher but that's not always enough. Hope he gets a decent chance to prove himself.

You have to wonder if he'll ever get a decent shout under Brendan? Most of his signings haven't had a look in. Personally? Hope he proves me wrong and does well.

People getting carried away which is understandable as Ings is a new signing and we want to support the lad.

He scored what was it 11 goals last season playing 35 times for Burnley well as posters seem to think he is 3rd or 4th choice then he is not going to score anything like that.
He has one of the poorest rates of shot accuracy in the EPL for a striker,  excluding Balotelli   :o
In fact at just 43% his accuracy is even worse than Raheem's at 53% who everyone has been slagging off for not being able to hit the back of the net.

So bearing in mind he needs a lot of attempts to find the target and assuming he is not a starter, where are the goals that posters are envisioning.

Hope he proves me wrong but I can't see the enthusiasm.

I would have preferred giving one of the academy lads a chance.

a signing like rush comes good from a club like chester to a club like liverpool once every 50 years..plus this isn't 1980s football anymore

      Don't be such a dope.

Roger Hunt came from Stockton Heath, even lesser known than Chester, and was signed in 58. Rush signed in 80. 50 years in between? Nah.
Billy Liddell came from Lochgelly Violet, even lesser known than Chester, and was signed in 38. Rush signed in 80. 50 years in between? Nah.
Kevin Keegan came from Scunthorpe, probably slightly ahead of Chester now - maybe not back then, and was signed in 71. Rush signed in 80. 50 years in between? Nah.

Actually, it was common place to find absolute gems from the lower leagues back when football was a sport and not a business. In fact Liverpool's best XI of all time would all come from "mickey mouse" clubs, with the exception of Dalglish - depending on how highly you rate Celtic.

Nowadays though, we sign somebody from Burnley and he's written off before he's kicked a ball. Ah well, RIP football. It was a great pleasure knowing you as a sport.

I can certainly see where you're getting that impression from Rush.

I think more would be seeing this signing in that light if we had been signing quality players, but with our track record I believe he's being tarnished with our reputation for signing utter dross. If we went out and signed a top quality striker and a top quality DM tomorrow then Ings would suddenly start looking like a bonus, right now he's looking like the height of our ambition and that's why people are worrying.

Understand frustrations if he is our only striker we sign but the reaction from people is well over the top with months to go in the transfer window.

Bit of patience, see what happens and then maybe react.

So much nagativity towards this signing.

      Why?

Ive heard nothing but positive stuff from the pundits and ex. pros.

      Aldo says... `no brainer of a transfer`

I know why, he is not top rated on Fifa 15.

ffs. folks give the lad a chance to kick a ball for us, he is an england u-21 international, scored goals at all levels he has played at, scored goals for a team who mostly defend in the premiership.

And only cost us some compensation.

For me right now, he walks into our team ahead of balo, mario & lambo.

What a poor business by our club, no ambition whatsoever in signing Danny Ings, and we would pay around 10 mil on him also. New Borini.

Yeah it was great in the 60's, 70's and 80's unfortunately harking back to some examples more than 30 years ago is hardly relevant in this day and age.

Any examples from the 21st century?
These average punts are what we have specialised in for the last 20 years and they have never worked.
