I think Brendan will try to have two formations that he can switch between next season:  4-3-3 and 4-2-3-1 (he does love flipping the triangle doesn't he?!). He may occasionally tinker with a front 2, but I think we'll see more of the lone striker this season. Which means, if Studge and Benteke are both fit then the onus will be on the former to force his way into one of the supporting attack positions.

      Migs
      Clyne - Skrtel - Sakho - Moreno
      Lucas
      Milner - Hendo
      Lallana - Benteke - Coutinho

      Or

      Migs
      Clyne - Skrtel - Sakho - Moreno
      Hendo - Milner
      Lallana - Firmino - Coutinho
      Benteke

You can basically throw a fit Studge on for Benteke, or any of Coutinho, Firmino or Lallana. I think Can will rotate with Hendo and Milner as part of an energetic box-to-box midfield pair, and Allen will compete with Lucas for the CDM role in a 4-3-3. Ibe, Markovic, Ings, and Origi may have to work hard to get a look in this season!!

I like the look of these. Might occasionally see a 4-1-2-1-2 with Ings or Origi partnering Benteke.

      Lucas/Allen
      Hendo/Can     Milner/Tex

Bold players being the first teamers.

I like the look of it. While I'm not super keen on Benteke, I do rate him more than Balotelli or Lambert and I'm not sure Ings or Origi are ready to start yet.

I think it will be a problem when Sturridge comes back. Too many strikers me thinks.

If Benteke comes in, I'm actually wondering what formation we'll actually play. You'd expect something like  a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-3-3 of some sort.

Question is, with the midfield additions... does Can stay at CB? One would assume he's going to play both Coutinho and Firminio, and Henderson is a guaranteed starter along with Migs.

It's tough to call. Be interesting to see though for sure.

Personally I'd like this (but I'd try incorporate Sturridge if and when he's fit, possibly removing Lallana/Milner from the line up)

                        Migs
      Clyne - Can - Skrtel - Moreno
                 Milner - Hendo
      Lallana - Coutinho - Firmino
                    Benteke

Why would our best CB be left on the bench?

This is my issue, I don't think Can should be dropped. But I don't see him dropping Skrtel either.

Glad it's not my choice. Come to think about it, we have a massive squad now! From my lineup we'd be leaving out (assuming the likes of Borini and co are moved on) :

Ibe, Sturridge, Sakho, Lucas, Lovren, Ings, Origi, Lazar, Bogdan, Teixera, Allen, Toure.

Again, glad I'm not the one picking the team but looks like we'll have a very strong bench going into this season.

      EDIT: 3-5-2 again perhaps?

I agree...tbh Sahko is my first choice defender and I don't think he will be on the bench anytime unless he is unfit.

Until Studge is back (and depending on his form), this is it in my op. Can to hold while Milner/Henderson break from midfield - both can whip balls in too.

                              Mignolet
      Clyne        Skrtel          Sakho        Moreno
                               Can
          Henderson                        Milner
                     Firmino      Coutinho
                            Benteke

Moreno's the weak link - would personally but Gomez there, seems a real talent.

Ye same here sakho should be our 1st choice CB and we should build around him, I like MS but he should not be 1st choice at LFC, I have no idea if lovren is going to kick on and I think Toure can not be relied on for more than 1 or 2 games at a time hopefully one of our youngsters can come through

Its scary how weak and totally lacking in any form of leadership that defence looks. In fact, not one leader in the whole squad.

I actually fear for the confidence of Clyne and Gomez as , good young potential that they are, they will receive no form of direction from our senior defenders,  who just seem to do their own thing without any sense of unity.

Going by pre season where we have two midfielders in the middle and one holding, i think we need to change it. We had no movement in the final third for large periods of both games and our strikers were isolated a bit i thought.

When Benteke signs, and whilst Sturridge is out, i'd have Benteke and Firmino together up top with Coutinho in behind in a no.10 role. Milner, Hendo and Can behind them.

      Can     Milner     Hendo

This is probably our strongest line up until Sturridge comes back. Certainly in home fixtures or against the lesser teams anyway.

Need to upgrade on the GK and LB positions but I think Mignolet and Moreno can 'do a job' so we can leave them for next summer.

We lack a midfield presence for the big games though so for those I'd put either Lucas or Can in there. Maybe even both.

As littleface says, its worrying that we don't have any leaders in that team. Our spine of Skrtel & Sakho, Hendo, Milner & Coutinho, & Benteke all need to step up next season and be counted. Become leaders.

Disagree there mate, plenty leaders in there, and players who have been captains at previous clubs or indeed for LFC at times.

Maybe not so many shouters tho.

Saying that Ive heard the commentators so far in pre-season saying how vocal milner has been. which is good. and maybe why he is up for vice captain.
