      Retire number 8 shirt?
      Jun 12, 2015 02:31:45 pm
Steven Gerrard played for Liverpool for seventeen years,he played 710 matches,he scored 186 goals,he brought the cup back home,he wore captain armband for twelve years,he was and he still is a Liverpool legend and icon.Natural born leader that led Liverpool to numerous trophies.
He is an idol to millions around the world.
Should we retire number 8 shirt because i dont think that we will ever see a player decent enough to wear it after Steven Gerrard?

God not this again, we had all this when Carra retired.

If we were to retire a shirt number every time a legend left the club, we'd be into the hundreds by now. Roger Hunt, one of the all time greats for Liverpool wore number 8. If we retired his shirt number, there wouldn't even be a number 8 for Stevie to wear - this after he wore 28 and 17 as well don't forget. Let's retire them as well?

Great players will come and go and eventually we will have another great number 8. It may start next season, it may not happen in my lifetime. Who knows. But the fact is, we will have another great number 8, so retiring shirt numbers is one of the daftest F***ing ideas in football and that includes when it's done in honour of somebody like City did with Marc Vivian Foe's number 23 or when clubs retire the number 12 shirt for their fans, it's daft.

      This.

Retiring shirts is crazy. If we did that, we would only have ever had 1 great player to wear no.7

Think of the greats to wear that number, Keegan, Dalglish, Suarez

The No.8 had a fantastic player in souness.

Steven Gerrard isnt dead... he moved on like many other great players before him!

I understand why it happens at other clubs but for me, its not something we should do

Yeah,he wore shirts 28 and 17 but he is world famous with the number eight on his back. You are right about the hundreds thing although. But im gonna be upset if someone like Milner gets number 8,that would be pure rubbish.

      Why lad?

It's the badge on the front of the shirt that matters, not the number on the back. Milner is going to be the same player with number 357 (cos we've retired 300 shirt numbers already, so that's the one he chose) on his back as he would be with number 8.

I already answered so but sure why you asked me again.

Its a F***ing stupid thing to do so that's why I wouldn't retire the Number 8.

How much clearer would you like me to be?

F**k it, let's really make your day and give Lovren the number 8 shirt on the home kit and number 7 on the away kit.
