I am definitely against the idea if an Italian club has done it then good it was their idea at the time fair enough. We haven't done it in the past for the King. Or for Phil Neal, who has won more trophies than most clubs in this country. We have had too many legends and for that it would be disrespectful to the legends of the past. Gerrard is definitely one of the greatest of all time, but he has had a lot reward and will get his appreciations from the fans. Retiring a shirt won't add anything other than undermining a huge list of players. Like mentioned we would have to start in the 30s.
Players like Gerrard make that No.8 more special. I do care a little about numbers, because it reminds me of past greats like before Gerrard it was Souness that I connected with the no.8, now I will remember to huge players both the best of their generations. Obviously this is in my time surely, the older posters will have other names too.
