Great signing for the club, so much so, could be included in the Positive thread. Things finally looking up from the dark days of last season.

I'm not so sure he's still doing the negotiating Stuey or if he is, he's had a rocket up his arse as the business so far isn't his usual MO.  Far too smooth, far too quick and far less hassle  xxxxx:action-smiley-065:

We don't loathe Ayre he is merely an agent.
He has fu**ed up 99% of the so called target buys, he is by now expected to f**k up without exception.
His involvement in this episode of an unprecedented success in bringing a potential gem to the club is overshadowed if not eclipsed, by the mateyness of said target and Phillippe Coutinho who has vowed to remain at LFC and without doubt had a word in the ear of your man Firmino.
He should be roundly applauded for his loyalty instead of a nod of appreciation to an H&G piece of jettison.
If all it took was a friend in the ear then why don't we have Neymar, Nueur and Pogba?  I'm sure it didn't hurt to have Coutinho put a word in his ear but at the end of the day it wasn't Phil that sat down with Firmino and his agent. It was Ayre, and amazingly the deal still got done so he deserves some credit.

And you may not loathe him but I do.

Oh I didn't mean he'd got the bullet just been removed from the negotiating of player deals, he's still gone out to get the signature and finalise the 3rd party details, just none of our new deals appear to have his grubby mitts all over them  :D

As Debs said the signing was done with none of the endless negotiation and poaching by Spurs, Mancs or anyone else seen to be a rival, the assumption must be he has been given lighter duties involving long brushes and Dettol.
This deal bears none of his ''hallmarks''.

I just hope the fans give the lad time to settle and that they don't make comparisons to a certain Luis Suarez. Let's give him time to grow into the next Firmino

Oh, and please don't get injured in the Copa del America!

      Right...when's pre-season starting?

It's sensible what you're saying but I don't reckon it makes that much difference. As a person what can he do? He'll just carry on doing what he does. If someone says oh he's got similar skills and offers something that Suarez gave us in that flair element and maybe work rate too then it's just a relief that we've signed someone who can fit into that category of player.

I can't stand journalists labelling young talented players from different leagues as the next Messi etc, I don't think Liverpool fans are calling him the next Suarez though.

So it's ok, I'm sure he'll just play his style of football and learn about the league and improve with coaching as he ages. He's not being hailed as a saviour just a quality addition instead of no one being quite sure about his strong points, as some of our past signings have caused confusion with the fans.

My only point was: it's a good thing, lets not worry about all the uncertainties and how supporters may react in a kneejerk way, the players just get on with their craft and I don't think they're affected by forums on the internet.

There's no doubt he needed a rocket up his arse though.

I'm guessing it was the translator that really sealed it.

Ayre: Here's two bob for your wages Firmino, and 28 pound for Hoffenheim

      Firmino: Perdao?

Translator: He wants to give the club 28 million for your services, and pay you over 100,000 pound a week.

      Ayre: Yep, what he said.

      Firmino: Sim sim, negócio fechado!

It's being widely reported that this deal was done with no thought whatsoever of Sterling moving on. Just because you  keep repeating it doesn't make it true. Good grief...allow yourself to have some positivity for once and see this as what it is...a great job by the club nailing down a great talent, and Ayre obviously had a hand in it and deserves some praise. Just because we all loathe him, doesn't change the fact that he did a good job on this.

More signings to come after Liverpool net Firmino

Press Association on Jun 24, 2015

      http://www.thisisanfield.com/2015/06/more-signings-to-come-after-liverpool-net-firmino/

Liverpool's £29million deal to bring Brazil forward Roberto Firmino to Anfield will not impact on further summer spending or change their stance on want-away winger Raheem Sterling.

Press Association Sport understands the Reds will pay 30million euros (about £22million) for the Hoffenheim player with add-ons likely to make the 23-year-old the club's second most expensive signing in their history, after the £35million purchase of Andy Carroll in January 2011.

Firmino, who will undergo a medical after his involvement in the Copa America is over, has agreed a five-year contract with the Reds after chief executive Ian Ayre flew out to Chile on Wednesday and the deal was finalised overnight.

The money for Firmino was outlined as planned summer transfer spending and the club do not have to sell Sterling, for whom Manchester City's second £40million offer was rejected earlier this month as they value him at £50million-plus, in order to balance the books.

They still have funds left for another centre-forward, with their sights set on Sevilla's £20million-rated Colombia striker Carlos Bacca and Zenit St Petersburg's Venezuelan Salomon Rondon, valued about £15million, who have both been in action at the Copa America.

Ayre is scheduled to remain in Chile for at least another 24 hours but Liverpool already had staff present at the tournament and they still retain interest in the South Americans after refusing to consider Aston Villa's £32.5million release clause for Christian Benteke.

Liverpool are also remaining patient in their pursuit of Southampton's England right-back Nathaniel Clyne, having already had a £10million bid turned down, as the recruitment programme aimed at regaining Champions League football continues.

Firmino is Liverpool's fifth signing of the close-season having already recruited Burnley's England Under-21 striker Danny Ings, Manchester City midfielder James Milner, Charlton defender Joe Gomez and Bolton goalkeeper Adam Bogdan.

The Brazilian spent four and a half years in Germany, scoring 47 goals in 151 appearances with four goals in nine internationals, including Sunday's Copa America winner against Venezuela.

Manager Brendan Rodgers will hope Firmino, who made his professional debut for Figueirense at the age of 17 in October 2009 but left for Germany just over a year later, can bring more goals to his side.

Main striker Daniel Sturridge was injured for most of last season and so their top scorer with 13 was Steven Gerrard, who has now left to join Major League Soccer side Los Angeles Galaxy, with Sterling next-best on 11.

Given FSG are masters of spin and know how to protect their investments and understand 'supply & demand' it probably isn't coincidence that the press have been leaked this. Sterling will go but I am always a fan of spending the money first (rather than the other way around) so you don't get fleeced by clubs who know the tills are full.

Cracking signing, really chuffed with this. We've still got holes elsewhere and I still wonder what we will do about a new number 9? We can'r repeat last year's mistake of hoping Studge will be fit and having others to make up the numbers. It's clear we need to spend a similar sum of money on a new striker. If we can do that, throw in Illariemendi, Clyne and offload a few then i'll be happy with the summer!

He might've meant that he knew what Torres was like before we signed him, with Suarez he looked great but I don't remember him having a big reputation at the time.

I'm on the same boat. Didn't know too much about Suarez at the time and only saw him play in the World Cup, so was unsure. Where as Torres, I had been watching him a lot and knew he would be a hit like everyone else.
