I think we will finish fifth or sixth this season. I think we are probably even slightly weaker this season than last season. Obviously there is still time for us to strengthen and maybe we will put the Sterling money to good use. Other than that, a lot may depend on how soon and how well Sturridge returns.

I do fancy us for a cup as I think the other top clubs will be fighting for a closely contested league and give us an opportunity in one of the cups.

I think Brendan must be trying to emulate Arsenal with 101 attacking midfielders but precious few that can win a midfield battle.

I just hope I am wrong, but apart from Sturridge's return I see precious few bright spots although I think Milner will prove to be a good signing.

Why are we weaker from last season?

Johnson gone - we now have a better RB in Clyne

Gerrard gone - we have a better player NOW in Milner, than the Gerrard of last season

Sterling gone - IMO was over used, over hyped and he could not finish his dinner. Firminio is an experienced player and will fill the “attacking” void

Jones gone – gained Bogdan who is a better backup

Borini going? – we have Ings, who is better than Borini

Plus we now have Origi and Benteke (or equivalent) – whether they are better than Balotelli or Lambert is for another day but they can’t be any worse.

We might not have strengthened enough in comparison to the top 4, therefore we may fall short in a challenge but we are without doubt stronger than last season

If Sterling goes, we will have lost our two top scorers from last season (Gerrard 13 goals, Sterling 11 goals).

I have never seen Firminho play, but it may take him time to settle in a new country , new style of play etc etc.

Milner I like, but I honestly wouldn't say he is better than Gerrard even now. Hopefully he has the legs though and I know he can take free kicks.

We also have to try to get Borini, Balotelli and possibly Lambert off our books ... easier said than done.

Just not sure how anyone can say that Firminho will fill the void left by Sterling when he hasn't even kicked a ball for us yet. Sterling was played wide left, wide right, behind the striker , as a main striker and as a wing back last season, and like it or not, was with Coutinho our best and most valuable player.

Think we need more signings before I think we can say we have strengthened.

You're spot on mate, we don't know how he'll settle. I've watched him enough times to believe he will fill the void very well, especially the Sterling we saw at the latter end of the season.

Honestly believe, as I did with Coutinho, Suarez and Sturridge, that he will become a fan favourite very quickly, let's hope he doesn't break my decent streak :D

How many pans did Gerrard score last season? Im not sure but we have a couple of players willing to do that no doubt.

And for Sterling? He played all over the pitch last season, and for me, never excelled anywhere. He was/is so overhyped is laughable.

we won’t miss him. Im confident in Firminho, a player I havent seen play either, will have the tools to replace a player who was not consistent enough and who couldn’t finish.

Gerrard scored 5 pens last season, he would still have finished second top scorer even if you disregard his pens.

Maybe the reason Sterling didn't in your opinion excel anywhere, was that he was shuffled around from pillar to post all season ?

      5th at best

Looking at our team, it lacks match winners big time, we need a top top player in that first 11 to win us games when things are tight

Will say it again, Decent runs in all the cups, and win 1 of them, minimum back in top 4, if we start season well, we can challenge for the title.

The start is the key, if we can pick up average 2 points per game, we have a great chance in the league, if ferminio & coutinho click quickly, watch us smash teams again.

Defence will be better with clyne, and touch wood, sahko stays fit, so him & Skrtel can form better partership, given more games.

MF will be much more mobile with milner and Can, Ferminio, Coutinho & Lallana should provide lot's of Amo, for our new young hungry strikers.

      Think positive folks.

I'm actually surprised at the low expectations of some people saying a 5th place is what we will get.

The season hasn't started yet.So I'll keep my predictions till i see us play this season.

Not getting dicked by a very poor man utd side home and away
Not getting a football lesson at the Emirates
Not getting destroyed by F***ing Stoke & Palace in very important games
Not getting another shameful beating home and away by Chelsea

At least we wont have the champions league to "distract us" and can concentrate on transistion for another season

Given the squad we have so far,I would realistically expect United,Chelsea,City and Arsenal to leave us behind. And that´s with a fit Sturridge...

Given the squadd we have now and a possible addition of LB, we are well placed to fight for the title and thats what I would like to see. Lets go for the title again and establish our name inj Europe once again.

For me we have an outside chance of top four, anything below Fifth would mean that Brendan is on dodgy ground, don't have a problem of aiming high but the title is pure fantasy.still needs a too quality dm and the defence to be better organised but still think that's the team/managers Achilles heel

We should be in the top 4 easily, we royally fu**ed it up last season, and only just missed top 4 after a sh1te start and very sh1te finish.

This season we should be much better at the start of season, Don't see us losing as many games at all.

I also don't think the top 4 from last season are all that, mancs are still re-building could go either way for them, Arsenal think they are all that but they will have thier usual slip ups, man city have added sterling and lost milner not sure what other business they have done or doing & the dirty rats team are just the same they only won the league cos the rest let them.

We have improved our squd the best out of all of our rivals, we have a big chance this season to get back into title race.

And by the way, the hard draw of playing all rivals away early doors can be seen as a bonus, if we pick up decent amount of points from them games, we could be sitting pretty going into 2nd half of season.

So top 4 minimum for me, and maybe just maybe title challenge, and some cup runs for the 2nd string.

Just don't see us getting close to a top 4 place (points) 5th, more probably 6th is the best I can see us getting. Again we have to integrate a lot of players into the squad, again we are going into a season with doubts about our style of play, our best formation, our strikers and defence.

People get carried away by a few easy victories against 4th rate friendly opposition and expect us to do similar when we come up against prem sides.

I desperately hope I am wrong but I see a lot more problems before we find the way forward. I expect some of the players we signed last season to have more of an impact this season, but don't think that will be nearly enough to take us back where we belong.

Maybe if we can somehow keep in contention for the top 4 spots till Christmas we may finish closer than I think, but sadly I think by October our title hopes will be gone and by Christmas hopes of top four will seem but a distant memory. Just don't see this team or manager as one that will fight for ever point or a team that would rather win ugly than lose.

Maybe the cups will brighten our season....

Sorry, just not feeling the optimism that others are.

With the Mancs still not improving the defence and DDG potentially leaving, I would say we can pip them to 4th. If Jones, Smalling, Rojo and Blackett are their CBs come Sep 1, I would feel a bit confident.

4th and a cup final is what I expect!

More doom and gloom i think. A poor start, disorganisation on the pitch, plenty of goals conceded and probably a change of manager by November.
The new roofs gona look good though.

The first 15 MINUTES of the STOKE game will tell us if these players have grown some hairs on their balls, or if they are just hoping to get through the game without getting their arse kicked.
If they ,and Rodgers , cannot show they have a debt to settle with Stoke , Then just what can we expect for the rest of the season?
