Quite a few of the video's of these goals that are being posted, it has Sakho putting crosses in from the left. I hope that's not an indication that he will be playing at LB.

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing too. Also, Skrtel's goal makes Ings volley look amateur!!!

I would think this will be our norm early on with the exception of Firmino for Lallana.

For the life of me, I don't understand what Sakho has done...I really don't.

I don't think Brendan has ever truly been convinced by Sakho for whatever reason.  We all see differnt things AZ and there are enough on here who have doubts about Sakho so not it's not totally beyond belief that the manager shares those concerns.

As I said in the other thread I think he's wrong but glad he will nail his colours to the mast so to speak as he has to get everything spot on this season.

Tell me how do you see it then. Without the personal insults would be even nicer.

Maybe Emre Can on the bench, but the others i think would be starters.

That's how I'm seeing it now as well. Hopefully it brings out the best in Lallana and Ibe with Firmino ready to come in.

Bit worried about that midfield two of Hendo and Milner and obviously Lovren over Sakho but it seems like that's what Brendan prefers at the moment.

Lallana an Coutinho linked up well at times last season, I'd like to see them get the chance to form a good partnership.
Don't want to see Lovren though, Sahko or Illori please.

I think we'll see Phil play deeper and closer to Hendo and Milner than a normal 4 2 3 1 at times.

Really no idea how we'll set up for the coming season as we're working on different set ups and formations.  We were training last week with a 2 in midfield which is how we started yesterdays game but changed it in the 2nd half and Brendan confirmed that it was an experiment they'd been working on.

In the other games I've watched we've always had a 1-2 pivot rather than a 2-1 so it's good that we're looking at ways to counter our opposition when necessary and that Brendan changed it allowing us to take the win.  That doesn't mean it didn't work though as we were definitely more compact but lacked the speed to transition between defence and attack, that changed in the 2nd half by releasing Milner and Hendo to get further forward.

On a side note there's a graphic doing the rounds on twitter that Milner (25), Hendo (25) and Lallana (24) have contributed 74 shots and/or chances created during pre season.  I know it's a bit misleading as they've played the most minutes but still it shows our midfield is at least creating chances at a fairly high rate.

Looks a bit scary with only two at the back, but that 5 across the middle, with their workmate and tenacity protecting the back two, and going forward. Looks quite formidable overall. Wonder if BR sees it that way.
Wing backs/wide midfield/wingers. Call it what you may, it could work well for us with the players we have.

Well after all those pre season games I haven't got much more of an idea who is going to start against Stoke!

Can for me is one of our best players.  I can't see how he can't be in the eleven.  Same goes for Milner and Henderson is the captain.

Allen injury may make things a little easier on choosing a team next week but I'd have those three in our team.

Apart from Coutinho, Mignolet, Clyne I'd struggle to figure out who the other 5 were going to be.

But anyway, my BEST XI - ignoring injuries.

      Mignolet (begrudgingly!)

      Clyne - Skrtel - Sakho - Moreno

      Can - Henderson - Milner

      Firmino - Sturridge - Coutinho

Subs: Bogdan, Lucas, Gomez, Ibe, Origi, Teixeira, Benteke

Soz to Lallana, Lovren, Toure, Allen, Markovic, Balotelli, Ings

4-1-2-2-1  a sort of box midfield.

                                               Migs
                         Clyne      Skrtel         Sakho    Moreno

                               Hendo                         Can/Milner

                                  Firmino         Coutinho

For what reason would our captain not play? He's contributed very well too in pre-season so even if he wasn't captain I think he should start ahead of Lucas. I'm sick of seeing Lucas give away so many free kicks on the edge of our 18 yard box.

I think Henderson is treated with so much disrespect sometimes... he is a great player who I believe will grow now he isnt under the shadow of Stevie
