For what reason would our captain not play? He's contributed very well too in pre-season so even if he wasn't captain I think he should start ahead of Lucas. I'm sick of seeing Lucas give away so many free kicks on the edge of our 18 yard box.

Probably no reason, in Rodgers' mind but this is the side I'd like to see him field, without any "disrespect" to Henderson.

Fair enough with the Lucas comment. I just think this team needs a 'sitter' to give it more balance.

He's (Henderson) our captain as you say, and thus will automatically demand a starting spot, right.

Its all about Rotation this season, for cup and early Europa you play Marko,Lallana,Origi,Ings, Lovren etc for league we have to stick to the same team as much as we can and Can has to be in that team

GOD  help us! well if that's the case we get behind pebbles and wish him well because if he fails then LFC fail. We need him this season to be better than Skrtel as long term he seems to be a direct replacement if BR see's him ahead of Sakho for now.

I think what I mean is Brendan is going to go into this season following his gut instincts and he must have seen something in Lovren that we don't.

For me it's Sakho all day long and the question is who partners him not the other way round.

I actually think our CB positions (Skertel, Sahko & Lovren) are one of the weakest areas of our team. I'm not convinced any of them are top top CB, or are going to become top top CB's.

I think Skertel and Sahko are the pick of the pairing for me. I'd like to see Sahko get a long (injured free) consistent run in the side, and I will be baffled a bit as to why (if) Lovren is given the nod ahead of him. I remember an incident in the Brisbane game where Sahko dilly dallied on the ball a bit, and got himself into a bit of a pickle. Since that we haven't seen him, surely that incident isn't the reason why Sahko hasn't got a look in since? I think Sahko is a better defender than Lovren, but perhaps Rodgers sees more of a ball playing CB in Lovren, I don't know.

The thing is though Sakho is easily our best ball playing CB as well and you would have thought he would be a Brendan type player.

It could be argued Sakho is a better ball player than some of our midfielders

Don't particulary agree with it myself, but think its the way BR is gonna start at stoke, after playing them together last few friendlies.

BTW. toure has looked as good as any of them pre-season.

I actually think it might well be toure\Sahko in the cups unless injuries happen etc.

And that's the thing, Lovren & sahko were injured quite a lot last season, so touch wood that changes.

I was thinking about the best way to get Can into the side and came up with this:

Mignolet

Clyne Skrtel Sakho Moreno

Can

Henderson Milner

Coutinho Firmino

Benteke

Can't lay it out properly as I'm on ybe phone but I think you'd have to play Moreno to help with the width and the 'box' in front of Can could provide the solidity if he makes those runs forward with Hendo and Milner clever enough to know when to sit.

Sakho and Lovren could easily become interchangeable, however because of Lovrens last performance i have to keep him in.
