Arsenal 0-0 Liverpool: In game and Post Match Debate
      Aug 24, 2015 06:59:50 pm

It's a wet afternoon at the Emirates Stadium ahead of #LFC

Starting XI: Mignolet, Clyne, Skrtel, Lovren, Gomez, Milner, Can, Lucas, Firmino, Coutinho, Benteke

Subs: Bogdan, Sakho, Moreno, Origi, Ings, Ibe, Rossiter

Roberto Firmino makes his first Liverpool start at Arsenal tonight as Brendan Rodgers makes three changes to his line-up.

After two substitute appearances, the Brazilian is named from the off for the Barclays Premier League clash at the Emirates Stadium.

Jordan Henderson's foot injury has ruled the captain out, meaning James Milner takes the armband in the capital.

Elsewhere, Emre Can and Lucas Leiva join the skipper for the evening in midfield, replacing Jordon Ibe and Adam Lallana from the side that started against Bournemouth.

Cheers Clint great work as always!

That's the team we all hoped for.

The glaring omission from the bench is Markovic. What's going on there?

No Per Mertesacker or Laurent Koscielny for Arsenal, so Gabriel and Calum Chambers start. Mertesacker and Koscielny not in squad.

Cech; Bellerín, Chambers, Gabriel, Monreal; Coquelin, Ramsey; Ozil, Sánchez, Cazorla, Giroud

Probably the strongest line up we could have gone for. Just noticed Lallana was out with a thigh injury!

I'm happy with that team though.

I do like the look of that team

Expect them to target Gomez and I expect him to be up to it. I predict Firmino to bag 1 and Lucas man of the match.

      Get about them redmen

So Sakho back on the bench and Toure out.

Also, highlighting our lack of midfield strength now with Hendo and Lallana out.

Maybe should be checking out the transfer wires real quick eh?

Pre game, Rodgers just said that Lucas is our best DM.

Would seem kind of odd to get rid of our best DM no?

Slightly anxious about our midfield, in the absence of Henderson.

Need to get the ball forward quickly, especially since our forward line can trouble an Arsenal defense devoid of Koscielny.

      Happy with the starting-11

      2 worrying facts bench-wise:

      1. No midfield strength whatsoever (no disrespect to Rossiter?)2. Markovic is out in the cold. Something to do with the managet NOT preferring the committee signings?

No Koscielny-Mertesacker... Big Ben, please make it count!!

It's why I'd be stubborn and not let Lucas go at least until January even if he's looking the move.

I thought Brendan was going to go same again and we will never know if Lallana would have kept his place if fit but great to see Firmino get a start and the front three looks full of quality.

Lucas sitting with Can and Milner more license to roam has a good look to it as well.

Personally I think far too much is made of this committee nonsense.

Brendan isn't going to cut his nose off to spite his face at this point in his Liverpool career and if Markovic isn't in the 18 then it's because the manager feels he has better options.
