FFS, we run out of CB's. Klopp said Matip's injury is not serious though.

Jürgen Klopp hopeful Joel Matip injury isn't serious

Jürgen Klopp doesn’t believe the ankle injury that forced Joel Matip from the field in Sunday’s pre-season victory over Wigan Athletic is a serious one.

The summer signing from FC Schalke limped off in the final stages of the Reds’ 2-0 win at the DW Stadium, leaving the visitors to see out the contest with 10 men.

However, Klopp is confident Matip will resume training again on Tuesday after resting on Monday.

The boss told his post-match press conference: “I hope it’s only a minor problem. He said he’s had it one or two times already.

“It’s the foot he had problems with in the past and then he had a little bit of pain when pre-season started because of the intensity. He’s used to it. Hopefully it is like this because everyone can see he’s in a real good way.

“I think tomorrow he’ll rest, then he can go again.”

Klopp added: “It’s not too serious, hopefully. We had to make the decision of Joel or Dejan, who has to play the whole 90 minutes?

“We decided on Joel. For him it was a little bit too much today, but he is in a good way, as you can see.”

Our centre backs need to start finding ways to stay fit because this is ridiculous.

Maybe they should take some fat burners or other supplements.

Most cringe part was him holding a kit with a coathanger in it still. WTF do they do at the club?

They're the adverts for the club website for December when they knock 20% off the shirt price!!

Obviously only preseason so take it for what it's worth, but Matip just seems more intelligent than our other CBs. Gotta credit his football education for that.

Good news, scan revealed Matip's ankle injury is not serious.

Liverpool handed Joel Matip injury boost after scan reveals no serious damage

Liverpool have been handed a fitness boost after a scan revealed Joel Matip’s ankle injury is not serious.

The centre back limped off before the end of the Reds’ 2-0 win at Wigan on Sunday, prompting fears of another defensive casualty after losing Mamadou Sakho and Joe Gomez to Achilles problems.

But scan results showed no serious damage has been sustained, with the Cameroon international suffering from just bruising, meaning there are no long-term fears about the injury.

It is unclear whether he will be fit in time for the trip to Huddersfield on Wednesday but will head out to the United States for the club’s tour on Thursday.

Jürgen Klopp could have ill-afforded another setback following injuries to Sakho and Gomez, both of which will see them miss the start of the season – although Augsburg centre back Ragnar Klavan will strengthen that position, medical on Merseyside on Tuesday ahead of a £4.2m deal.

Don't get why his being injured was a "scare" and prompting "fears."  We have no idea whether or not he's any good, he was on a free and no one wanted him but us, seems suspicious.  If Coutinho got injured, that would be scary, but how is it a "scare" for some lad who may be utter rubbish to get a knock?

no one would have been saying "oh no, Skrtel is out long term" if he had done his hamstring or something.  Of course it's better for the squad if everyone is fit, don't want any players getting injured, but it's going a bit overboard to suggest that he is somehow important when he might be another flop.

It's a scare because if Sakho is out for extended time with his injury and Matip goes down, who is going to play CB?

we need more CBs, I agree with you on that.  but I don't think it's simply a numbers issue.  Awe need more QUALITY, not just quantity.  Right now, we've got Lovren, Sakho, Matip, Gomez, and that's about it.  And even when they are fit, there are question marks over all of them and whether or not they are consistently good enough.

Why are you saying there are question marks over his quality? Isn't being one of the best CBs in one of the strongest leagues in the world enough of an indicator of his quality? Assuming that you don't want us to go buy a "prem proven" CB surely anyone we buy would have the same "question mark"?

I don't mean about his quality.I think he will be an excellent signing. Just that he hasn't resumed training yet. Hopefully AZP is correct and it will be soon.
