Liverpool and Man Utd both charged by UEFA.

I posted this in the post match thread, but thought it should have its own thread.

"UEFA have opened disciplinary proceedings against Manchester United and Liverpool following their Europa League match at Old Trafford on Thursday night.

The last-16 second-leg tie was marred by a number of incidents, including fighting in the crowd.

United are to be charged under safety regulations for having stairways blocked, for crowd disturbances and the throwing of objects.

Liverpool are to be charged with illicit chants, setting off fireworks, the throwing of objects and crowd disturbances.

The case will be dealt with by the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body on 19 May.

There were scuffles in the crowd at the final whistle at Old Trafford after a Liverpool flag was unfurled in the home end with police intervening and escorting a small group of fans out of the upper tier of the East Stand.

Greater Manchester police made five arrests, two of them on suspicion of affray and one for lighting a flare.

A number of flares and smoke bombs were seen in the away end after Liverpool scored shortly before half-time."

Manchester United and Liverpool have been charged by Uefa following crowd trouble during the Europa League last-16 second leg at Old Trafford.

Rival fans were seen fighting in the stands, seats were thrown and flares were lit at Thursday's 1-1 draw, during which five men were arrested.

Both clubs have been charged with crowd disturbances and throwing of objects.

Liverpool, who won 3-1 on aggregate, have been charged with illicit chants and the setting off of fireworks.

The case will be heard by Uefa's control, ethics and disciplinary body on 19 May, the day after the Europa League final in Basel.

Greater Manchester Police superintendent Jim Liggett said the force was investigating a "handful of concerning incidents" after Thursday's game.

Beforehand, police had to remove a banner on the M602 motorway in Salford designed to taunt Liverpool fans heading to Old Trafford.

United were not punished by Uefa after some of their fans sang offensive Hillsborough disaster chants during the first leg at Anfield.

Liverpool, meanwhile, are looking into a tweet sent from youth team player Jordan Williams' verified Twitter account during the game.

The tweet depicted an aeroplane emoji and pair of hands clapping, in response to a video of Liverpool fans celebrating inside Old Trafford

Other Twitter users suggested Williams was mocking the 1958 Munich air disaster, in which eight United players died.

Williams deleted the tweet and later apologised, saying: "My Twitter has been hacked, I would never put anything like that to offend anyone, sorry about this."

His account has since been deactivated.

So UEFA  can move quickly if they want to ? !

Pity they disnt see elbow incidents in both games  or original Hillsborough chants from the Scum at Anfield.

NO illicit chants  charge at either game on the Mancs from UEFA   ..........   but on us last night ?!   FFS .

I was in the main stand last week and could clearly hear the vile from them and F**k all done to them .

You couldn't make this sh*t up could you. They must have chanted 'murderers' and other sh*t about 50 times last night. It happened about 4 or 5 times right behind De Gea's goal in the first half when we had corners.

We sound shocked by the decision when we should actually expect it at this stage . Always double standards from Uefa and the Fa , parity of esteem isn't in their vocabulary .

Maybe if UEFA dealt with the chants our fans wouldn't have to get punished for getting frustrated with them. It sounds we had to put up with being provoked for 180+ minutes.

I get most of the charges (don't agree with them but I get them) but what's with the charge of 'late kick off'?

It is so when we win the Europa League they can disqualify us, but if we don't win it they can let us off with a warning. What has Uefa got against Liverpool?

The mancs can send us the bill for the broken seats and we'll no doubt get a fine.

They never got charged from Anfield, despite worldwide media attention.

They where allowed to stay in Manchester prior to our game, Uefa rules state otherwise.

They got the kick off time changed for their game.

Fellaini never got charged from our game, and goes on to do exactly the same last night.

Totally agree, too many times in the past we've just rolled over and not fought back. The Club need to defend the fans, the fact that they chanted does not make it right that we do likewise, but to charge us with chanting while completely ignoring their vile chants is just not acceptable!

Gill pulled strings for the cu*ts in his time with the FA - he was then in the employment of man u of coarse.

I think the chants from Liverpool were in response to chants received, not an excuse.. all parties should be punished privately and not the teams.
