Am I missing something?  Disgusting though it may be on both sides, is "illicit chanting" not covered under free speech laws?

Are we now regulating people being nice to each other?

Yes, you are missing something. This type of chanting is a breach of the peace, see Wilson v Brown, 1982, SCCR 49 for an example.

It's okay for you to say to me that you dislike my club, hope you beat us (even humiliate us), but the minute you start to talk (or sing) about Munich in an offensive manner, you have stepped over a red line and the rozzers can charge you.  Common sense means they normally wouldn't (what would it achieve) but they could.

Of course the same applies the other way if I start singing about Hillsborough.

It is disgusting, it has no place in our rivalry and needs to be stopped.  Our two clubs have much more in common than in difference and it is time some mutual respect was observed by the Cnuts on both sides - I'm sure most of us would agree.

Look, I really hope Utd stuff LFC, but if I saw your car broken down on the hard shoulder of the M62, I'd stop and ask if I could help.

There's a big difference between feeling rivalry at a sporting level (and believe you me, I am pissed off about the result) and actually having some respect/care for fellow humans.

Most genocidal dictators try to dehumanize their enemies to make killing them easier - just sayin'.

We don't have free speech laws in this country, in fact we have some of the most stringent laws in the western world, especially when it comes to libel and slander. It's something I don't have huge issue with though, I think most expected 'freedoms' should come with responsibilities.

Fair play mate great post. I'd help you on the motorway as well, it's (IMHO) all bollocks this OTT stuff. Can't stand your football club and half your players (sure the feeling is mutual) but when Shanks made his "life and death" statement he did so in humour, football actually isn't as important as that. It's actually a game, and in my experience in the really big games the team who can remember that fact and not tighten up are the ones who usually come out on top or at the very least do themselves justice.

Morale standards aside, I believe it would come under an attempt to incite violence; and yes, we should most definitely be regulating people being nice to each other when it comes to disgusting chants about tragedy.

Technically you're correct but in practice we do because it's covered by the European Human Rights Act which is enshrined within our law.

One rule for us and another for the rest.

      Suarez, costa, fellaini.

      Biting aside.

Players comparable by misdemeanour but incomparable by punishment.

      Subtle difference?

Maybe if UEFA dealt with the chants our fans wouldn't have to get punished for getting frustrated with them. It sounds we had to put up with being provoked for 180+ minutes.

No excuse at all for lowering to their level.

So this will be charge no. 26,245 then from Uefa!!

The mancs can send us the bill for the broken seats and we'll no doubt get a fine.

Will Man Utd get fined as much as us, doubt it

They never got charged from Anfield, despite worldwide media attention.

They where allowed to stay in Manchester prior to our game, Uefa rules state otherwise.

They got the kick off time changed for their game.

Fellaini never got charged from our game, and goes on to do exactly the same last night.

      Shall I go on.

Ohh don't forget their former chief executive David Gill is part of UEFA - no wonder they sing "We're Man Utd, we do what we want"

F**k them, take the fine out of our winners cheque you bunch of crooks.

The only damaging thing done to United was the beating they took over two legs, and we've already seen £300 million isn't enough to cover their losses. Expect a bill from Uefa coming our way to compensate them for a team of decent players.

Easy to say that if you've never been to a Utd game and had to listen to the absolute sh*te they come out with. Not everyone has a cool head.

This. I've heard these cu*ts at it outside and inside Anfield before but whilst I would (biasedly I admit) say ours is a small minority, when they do it it's half their F***ing stadium, every F***ing season. Hardly the 'small minority' they like to make out it is.

Anyway who gives a F**k what the cu*ts sing, they've always sang about us, F**k the filth!!!

That afro head should have been banned from football while he was at Everton, I can no longer take decisions seriously if his elbowing is overlooked so many times.
Calling us murderers doesn't get me angry, I think they're quite stupid to not get the point.
I'm sure many Man u supporters will get that. It's not all of them.
I love the rivalry but I don't hate Man u. I wouldn't want to be a fan, even when they were winning stuff their stadium was a bleak and dark arena. Like Evertons ground - void of humans. (haha)

Why he doesn't get more red cards for it, is beyond me - practically I'd put it down to weak refereeing - the same goes for all the wrestling in the penalty area that is tolerated and 'simulation', it's all cheating, but the wild elbows around peoples heads are dangerous play, on a par with two footed tackles

Calling us murderers doesn't get me angry, I think they're quite stupid to not get the point.

Unfortunately, the knuckle draggers who sing these songs have the IQ of pond life

I'm sure many Man u supporters will get that. It's not all of them.

Thank you. I believe most of us are against the vile chanting, whoever is doing it.

I love the rivalry but I don't hate Man u.

Exactly - two big clubs in the Northwest, lots of trophies, lots of history, these games mean a lot, win or lose, there's always next time to look forward to

One the subject of us not travelling to Liverpool for the first leg and you going to Manchester early, some of your posters are saying 'one rule for one...'

But I don't agree and think this is missing a smart move by Klopp; as Utd had had asked for and received a dispensation, UEFA could not have refused LFC, so why didn't you ask?

A bright coach (and Klopp seems to be very bright) might use the opportunity to get his squad on to 'enemy territory' and psych the players up for the match - it's us against the world.

It's the kind of psychology SAF would have used or Shankly, who was ahead of his time
