Reports tonight suggest Jürgen Klopp has signed Bayern Munich fitness coach Andreas Kornmayer as Liverpool's next head of fitness.

Anyone got any information on this guy?

He's a specialist in creating individual rehabilitation programmes, strengthening the the likes of Ribery, Lahm, Gotze after sideline spells

Sounds interesting, wondering how this opportunity cropped up. Was he connected to the medical team, do City already have a coach Pep prefers or have we head hunted him?!?

He has worked for Louis van Gaal, Jupp Heynckes and Pep Guardiola over the past six years but, with a summer of upheaval in store at the Allianz Arena as the Spanish coach heads for Manchester City, Kornmayer has accepted Jürgen Klopp’s offer to head Liverpool’s fitness team.

Klopp has admired Kornmayer’s work at Bayern for several years, albeit reluctantly as he believes their fitness levels were a factor in Heynckes’s team winning the treble at his Borussia Dortmund squad’s expense in 2013.

“Don’t forget,” the Liverpool manager said this year, “the 2013 treble-winning team of Bayern was unbelievably strong and they had all their players fit until the end.”

Kornmayer, who will take up his post at Anfield in the summer, replaces Dr Ryland Morgans, who ended a four-year stint at Liverpool last month.

Don't think so mate, I thought 4 of them walked, him (the doctor not the guy named above) being one of them but don't take that as gospel.

Edited my post above mate, Klopp assembling his jigsaw for next season...

Hopefully he will know a lot about Mario Gotze's injuries and can tell us whether he is worth the risk.

Certainly have inside knowledge on whether he's being/has been a lazy b***ard. Could be good news for Studge too if he stays, who knows. I just like that we're getting another coach that's coached/trained players into winners, should keep Fed off the suicide watch list  :f_tongueincheek:

Sounds like the result of two parties in Klopp and Kornmayer who have long been interested in the possibility of working together. Kornmayer would probably have betted on that eventuality occurring with Klopp as Bayern manager!

The Reds boss has lined up the 41-year-old, who has worked with the reigning Bundesliga champions since 2004, to head up fitness ahead of his first full season in charge

Jürgen Klopp is set to recruit the esteemed Andreas Kornmayer from Bayern Munich to replace Ryland Morgans as Liverpool’s Head of Fitness and Conditioning.

The 41-year-old, who has worked with the German giants since 2004 from academy level up to the first team is expected to join the Reds at the end of the season. He has served under managers Pep Guardiola, Jupp Heynckes and Louis van Gaal, now in charge of Manchester United, at the Allianz Arena.

Morgans, appointed by former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers in 2012, announced his decision to end a four-year association with the club at the end of March to "pursue new challenges".

Klopp considered internal and external candidates following his departure, before deciding that the Munich-born man would be the best addition to the sports science team.

Kornmayer began his spell helping whip Bayern into shape in July 2010, gaining promotion from the Under-19 and reserve set-up during Van Gaal's tenure. He conditioned the team for 43 games under the Dutchman, 109 during Heynckes' all-conquering stint and has overseen fitness in 151 matches thus far under Guardiola.

He is a specialist in creating individual rehabilitation programmes, strengthening the the likes of Franck Ribery, Philipp Lahm and Mario Gotze after sideline spells.

As Klopp gears up for his first complete campaign at the Reds' helm and prepares for an intensive pre-season, Kornmayer will be a crucial element to ensuring Liverpool are able to deal with the demands of the manager's 'full-throttle' approach in 2016-17.

Andy O'Boyle, who has been filling in since Morgans' exit, will continue in the role until the appointment takes effect.

Better pic of Kornmayer. I don't know how to reduce the size so it has to be a link unfortunately.

That photo is spooky. If I was Jürgen I'd be afraid, very afraid.

I guess the man's reputation on player 'rehab' is a big draw for Jürgen because (reading back) the fitness levels under Morgans were very rarely, if ever questioned. It's a given that we are always going to suffer injuries - with a squad not exactly dripping in depth, getting top players back quickly has to be a plus.

      Good move.

I know nothing of him, but if the gaffer rates him and he can help with Studge, Hendo and Lukas then fair play.

Good to see us snapping up a fitness coach to address the problem before making any major player signings. Sensible move - looks like great minds think alike.  ;)
