Yep in fairness to Owen there was a 5 year gap between us leaving Liverpool (we'd all decided even in August 2004 that because he had left for Real Madrid at such cheap value that he never really held Liverpool in his heart?) and him joining Man Utd. And in that time he had had one horrific injury sustained at the world cup and various others to the point that he was a shadow of the player that had left Liverpool. I don't hold much malice towards the guy in all honesty. He was an unbelievable player who was denied the status of greatness because of injury and poor career choices. It's as simple as that really and the fact that we've got 8 pages of discussion on a role that means very little is bizarre. I couldn't give two shits either way whether he was a Liverpool "ambassador" or not.

I remember at the time that he was all set to return to liverpool for the same (£8m) fee that we sold him for ... then Keegan came in with a £15m bid, Real Madrid said - you can have him for that - and we said, no, £8m - hence he ended up at Newcastle

Think he will also be viewed more as an "England" player than a Liverpool player because of his breakthrough in Italia 90

As for being an ambassador, it is what it is

Owen is selfish. He only thought about himself. He went to Madrid for himself. He joined the mancs to save his career. He only thought about his England spot. Joining the mancs, he could have said no. But he disregarded the club which gave him opportunities for what he became eventually. Totally disrespectful to us. What's he promoting for us now?

Not embarrassing at all. In fact, the fact it will be passed on to Tony Barrett could be a good indication of whether this new liaison set up with the club will actually be taken seriously or not.

Though, other than that I do think it would have been a complete waste of time.

Yeah you're right. I'm not going to sign it because it does make a mockery of petitions and public campaigning. When you sign one against ivory hunting and then get asked to sign one like that? Come on. It trivialises the whole process.

That said it was only last year that Owen tweeted 'I'm a Liverpool fan' when Rooney pulled him up on his ambassadorial status. To then go on tv saying 'we' this and 'we' that with regards to Man Utd, well you couldn't make it up.

It's obvious that Owen has absolutely no personal ties to any of the football clubs he played for. He'll just go which way the wind blows or with whatever of the ex clubs he played for that he's analysing on.

I've said it before but I'll say it again - I always think he was so good in big matches and so cool in front of goal because he never felt the pressure ie the pressure of not wanting to let your club and fans down. He was oblivious to it all. He was like that because he played for Michael Owen first and Michael Owen second.

F**k it though - his attitude contributed to winning us a few trophies and besides it's not like we're short of heroes.

F**k him of and away from the club once and for all.
